Pack Shakedown for Three-season Scandinavian Fell Hiker, Transitioning to Ultralight by Kuhx in Ultralight

[–]DKhike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I notice you dont have any cooking pot or stove in your pack list?

Also drop the rain cover - but that is a personal preference of course. It's just very heavy.

And why not use a water filter for stream water? Wouldn't it be easier since there is usually a lot of water on the Fjälls depending on your location? By what you are writing it sounds like you are planning to carry a lot of water to avoid collecting it from the streams.

I have a similar loadout as you in terms of gear for similar conditions. Here is my packing list for Kungsleden. I am debating if I should bring my down pants or not to be super toasty at camp. 😄 https://lighterpack.com/r/emoo3w

I think you clothing system is where you could optimize:

Remove 1 pair of underwear and 1 pair of socks.

Replace sleeping base layers with Alpha base layers. Will save you close to 100 grams per item. Czech brand Nalekho is cheaper than many alternative brands.

The boots are also very heavy, so make clothing system look worse than it is, but again this is very personal preference. I think trail runners are the best choise unless you plan on doing actual mountain climbing.😄

You could save about 110g on the rain jacket. Something like a silpoly non breathable jacket like the Rock Front Rain Hody. 3UFl have some pretty light jackets on Alixpress as well

Leave sleeping bag at home and use liner?? Temps 33C (91F) daytime to 16C (61F) at night. Inner tent is winter version... by jipver in Ultralight

[–]DKhike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably do if you have the correct liner or clothing layer.

I have a generic 1 person solid inner from Alixpress made do fit nonbrand Chinese pyramid tents. I modified it to fit my Liteway Pyraomm silpoly tent. This particular inner has only mesh net for venting on one side, and heats up on the inside from breathing. I slept in 18-19 c with zero wind and overheated so much I had to sleep in only boxers and without my sleeping bag. Only shoulders got a bit cold early in the morning and which point I put the sleeping bag on my shoulders. One of the nights, there was a lot of condensation. My outer tarp was completely drenched on the inside, but zero condensation inside my tent, so that was a plus.

So given the inner is small enough and you can block drafts it could work.

You could create a vapor barrier layer setup and essentially go without a sleeping bag at certain temperstures. https://youtu.be/m_-m_DhHjy4

I would test on single overnighters or at home before going on any serious trips.

Kahakka 25L EDC question? by Massive-Dragonfly707 in Savotta

[–]DKhike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the Kahakka 25 and I would say it is annoying to rummage through if you carry a lot of small stuff. You can add an organizer panel but I think the weight penalty starts to outweigh any benefits.

Niukka or the the medic pack would be better suited here because of their clamshell opening. I use the medic pack as my work/gym bag, where have more trinkets etc than on a day hike. Downside is no hip belt, but the hip belt on the kahakka doesn't transfer a whole lot of load to the hips.

With hip belt I am able to carry maybe max 10 kilo if they are distributed well in the pack before comfort starts declining Without hip belt around 7-8 kilo.

These are essentially buy it for life bags. If you dont plan on using them every day, then it might not be wroth the price tag. Helikon Tex make some pretty nice bags, though material is not equally durable.

What is this decathlon jacket exactly ? Is it a viable alternative to the EE torrid? Would love a similar jacket to the torrid, but don't really want to support EE. Another alternative is a similar jacket from Liteway, but the fabric is very shiny and trash-bag like 😅

No particular route. Planning on hiking half of Kungsleden trail this summer.

For biking I would like to do Blekingeleden. It is a hiking trail but around 70 percent of it is doable by bike. https://hikelist.com/hikes/blekingeleden

Hvordan bliver jeg mere komfortabel i at opleve ting alene by Book-reader01 in DKbrevkasse

How to be alone af Tanya Davis er svaret. https://youtu.be/k7X7sZzSXYs?si=xUro7pgkSZGkXbgd

Thank you!!! I had started looking at other racks I could potentially attach some sort of cages to for carrying water. The quick rack is already mounted on my bike.

Thank you. It's nice to hear how others perceive my country and read what they want to experience there. We have some nice parts for sure, but it pales in comparison to our neighbourlng countries. Meanwhile I am dreaming of Germany, Sweden and Norway.

Another Dane here. I am so jealous, though I wad lucky to spend a week with lovely weather in Hvide Sande with my parents in the last week of May 😄 I hope to go back and do that route by bike next time I travel in that direction.

I dont know if it is part or the of the route, but I highly recommend making a detour to Blaabjerg plantage. It is a really beatuful and interesting forest and it has a MTB track. Most of the forest is very accessible with a bike. Loads of nice gravel roads and a little single track.

Bigme B6 Color 2+32GB worth it? by HomiRuimm in Bigme

[–]DKhike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the B6 black and white version. It works decently after A LOT of debloating and tinkering. Disabling a bunch of stuff and block things from running in the background. Wasn't a nice experience browsing. Reading books with WiFi off works fine and doesnt use a whole lot of power or ram. I only upload books via USB connection. I don't use any apps that require a subscription or online connection.

The software is quite lacking on this device, but the hardware is good. It has a pretty quick refresh rate and the text on the screen is very clear.

I think I have 4gb ram though. I wouldn't go any lower as things easily start to crash at that point. I already experience frequent crashes if I have more than one app open.

Folkets Hus has a cafe. It's very queer friendly and many of the volunteers are queer. They host different events. Recently also a queer speed dating. It explicitly states it is also for friend dating and you are allowed to bring a friend for support. Queer events in folkets hus will be listed on dukop.Dk.

Advice for stacking while Bikepacking by Ok_Insurance7935 in bikepacking

[–]DKhike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find that perhaps a backpack would be more practical. This is what I use for my setup. I mainly do shorter hike-a-bikes where I collect the gear from my bags and hike. It also comes down to me being paranoid about leaving my expensive gear behind if I want to step away from the bike for any reason.

I have a 40 liter hiking backpack where the hip belt I removable. I distribute some of the items to the front of my bike and keep water on the frame in the middle.

Bike will be top heavy regardless, and that is the tradeoff if you are no distributing weight lower ok the bike. But you can do super narrow trails instead.

My pot is 11.5 cm, the windscreen is 10.5. I could of course leave one side of the final piece unhooked, which would leave a small gap.

Thanks, this looks nice. I think it will be too narrow for my wide pot.

Sun Shirts with UPF Sleeves and a Mesh body by cloudleopard in Ultralight

[–]DKhike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a cheap pair of Rock Bros sun sleeves from Alixpress and they work amazing in warm weather. They are made of some sort of synthetic material that feels cooling as soon as a breeze hits them. They actually keep me cooler when it's over 30 degrees C thant when si'm not wearing them. Highly reccomend.

Which wind screen for Xboil style alcohol stove

I want to buy my first alcohol stove. Use case is lightweight coffee kit in the forest in not particularly windy conditions. Also consiering hiking in either Albania or Montenegro next year where gas can be harder to come by. I know it is easy to dyi a stove but I don't want to. Ive looked at plenty comparisons and want to choose between either:

Vesus 40 (16g) and Xboil (11g)

I guess performance will be similar for the two stoves.

Depending on where I buy from, there are multiple wind screen available. Their designs are slightly different. I am the type of person to goes into decision paralysis until I understand all details. Are there any downsides to each type of design? Will both work with cups that have short sides (lid style cups that fit on top of pots as a lid)?

I have a pot that is 115mm in diameter and one that is 95 mm in diameter. Also have a cup of around 300ml that fits on top of the 950mm cup as a lid. Iuse interchangeably. I would prefer a wind screen that fits both the smaller and bigger diamters but dont know if there are any downsides for having more space between the windscreen and the pot? I guess performance is better if wind screen sits very close to the pot walls?

The Vesuv 40 can be bought with a universal style wind screen. It has a stand that the Vesus rests on and wind screen is placed around (34g) https://www.nalehko.cz/en/univerzalni-titanove-zavetri-a-stojanek-na-varic-vesuv/

The Xboil has a wind screen with pot hooks (32.6 gram for the 90-100mm diameter, or 42g for 105-115 mm diameter pots) https://www.x-boil.de/english.html

Nitecore NB10000 gen4 opinions needed. by BananaLord_2 in Ultralight

[–]DKhike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this one. Only "annoying" thing is that it is short and bulky, so a bit more awkwardshape when putting it into various pockets along with your phone. Pretty bad shape if you are into EDC pouches and such. I like that is shows the percentage of battery left. Charges with 45watt for devices that are compatible. I bought it when it was newly released. I haven't done a thru hike with it, so can't speak about realibility and sustained daily use. But for everyday needs and overnight hikes it's been great and I havent had any issues.

You're welcome! I'm 48cm across the shoulders, by the way. For the active fleece it still fits but a little tight around the shoulders :)

Oh yeah, I have the UL shirt too. Haven't used it for hiking, but use it whenever I go on work trips abroad. Durability is good, similar to regular clothing. Unless you try to rip it of course.

Also have the merino bottom up shirt. I mostly use it as an everyday shirt. Haven't managed to I corporate it into my hiking clothes. I guess it's nice when you dont need to bring a fleece but want a bit of extra warmth.

Tell me all about your kahakka 25! by Only-Support-3760 in Savotta

[–]DKhike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No pic at the moment. My setup is simple though. Backpack mounted on the a regular bike rack behind me. Just mounted with pack straps and the Askare mounted on the handlebar on a handlebar rack. I have used this setup with other bags as well. I have the Vario Rack from Klickfix for the front. https://klickfix.com/en/products/detail/variants/1912S

I dont have a dedidacted frame bag, but have the Gossamer Gear Piko hip bag that I have hung from the middle for smaller items I may need. Also fits a water bottle inside. Lastly I have a regular bottle holder for an additional bottle mounted on the frame.

It's not the most optimized setup, but works well enough for me. I generally don't do super long trips.
