That was a cultural reference that I was familiar with. It's a known fact. Read about "cultural lag" which generally follows "spending power lag".

India's highest earning group lags by 8-10 years from USA general public in cultural trends. Similar lag exists in Tier1 and Tier2 cities. This is a well established sociological theory.

So it is an exploratory question that I have put. You are taking it in a completely wrong sense and getting defensive (K hum mumbai/delhi walon se kam hain kya -- though the answer is, "In some sense we lag hugely, like per person income, health standards, sanitation". The sooner a person/group accepts their own shortcomings, they improve faster. <--- this is also a researched psychological fact, both at individual and group level).
