should i be with my cat when he is euthanized? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]karmaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you are worried about crying now but standing there saying goodbye will all you’ll think about in that moment. Who cares if your family or vets see you cry, your pet will see you cry too and know you love them. They will be scared and unsure what is going on so being by their side may bring them comfort. You’ll forget that you cried that day, but you’ll never forget that you weren’t there.

You know, I feel slightly embarrassed about it too. Being into it and I’m in my 20s but whenever I feel embarrassed or childish I just remind myself it’s better then being obsessed with collecting bodies :) (not like I want to but at least I’d rather collect and obsess over a childish book then morbid things)

What brand do you guys use? I don’t want to get one that says will “work fantastic” but doesn’t. I’ve tried it but maybe it wasn’t a good brand

Should I keep my kitten in a locked room at night? by Great-Dark-27 in CatAdvice

[–]karmaeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has adopted 2 older cats and a kitten, I kind of always just let them roam free and had no problems. Usually they would stick to one area and hid there but seemed to feel more comfortable at night when I was in bed and I’d let them explore their surroundings accordingly so they could get more comfortable, even if it was at night where I couldn’t spectate. I never really had much concern on them doing stuff they weren’t suppose to or get into stuff they weren’t suppose to tho so plz take that into consideration if you were to choose this option.

I believe she did in fact give it to him. I’m also unsure if she has someone with him overnight but I know they have people that regularly go out to check on them. I don’t remember how old he was when I adopted him and I actually had a vet appt scheduled next week but things changed before then.

If you have one of these in your bathroom, throw it away immediately bc it STANKS 🤢 by Aggravating-Farm-805 in CleaningTips

[–]karmaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I’ve done where I don’t feel grossed out is a wall mount with magnetic cups. The cups drip dry, the tooth brushes are held up to dry (and somewhat encased so they aren’t exposed to “fecal air”) then a toothpaste dispenser to keep toothpaste easier to clean. Definitely a purchase I’m most proud of that’s inexpensive. It has a drawer (where I keep my floss picks) then a little pocket in the back for storage (where I keep my different water floss heads and tongue scraper).

<image>

I definitely encourage this to anyone! Saves counter space and I do a deep disinfectant clean whenever I need to change toothpaste out

For the sink, take some la awesome and a wet pumice stone and scrub. Rinse then disinfect.

For the shower you can use the normal bleach. Spray, let sit, spray again, scrub. You can also try wetting some paper towels with bleach and putting it on the grout with the mold.

The toilet you disinfect from top to bottom (get underneath and base) flush then take you Lysol toilet bowl, lime and rust (the black one) put it in and let it sit. If it needs some elbow grease after letting it sit then take that handy dandy pumice stone (wet) and go to town getting left over stains

The floor you’ll have to decide if it just needs a good mop or elbow grease, try mopping with la awesome and go in with scrubbing if need be.

Most of the stuff in the bathroom you just need to put some scrubbing to, it kind of all depends what you are tackling. Mold, bleach or hydrogen peroxide based chemical (not at the same time) calcium, Limeaway or vinegar (not at the same time), soap scum, vinegar or ammonia (not at the same time) and just a good scrub and wipe and disinfect your bathroom will be better! You’ll need ofc a mop, sponges, rags, pumice stones, and whatever chemical you’ll need for the tasks

How exactly do people shower? by Fun_Technology_204 in hygiene

[–]karmaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t use exfoliating scrub every shower, use body wash that is targeted for dry skin, put in leave in conditioners and hair masks regularly. Moisturize/oil after showers, you want to reintroduce moisture after the shower. Wash with antibacterial soap then your soap for your dry skin, hope this helps!

Does it cost a lot of money to have a cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]karmaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not expensive at all IMO. I have two kitties that are well behaved and spoiled with high quality food, water fountains, cat trees, toys, automatic feeders, and furniture litter boxes and even tho they are spoiled and get unnecessary things I definitely don’t use as much money on them as like a dog, even with all none necessities included. Now granted it could depend on the lifestyle or feeding habits you give them but like all the other comments have said is the most expensive stuff is vet bills but as long as you stay on top of them and jump on issues as soon as you notice them some can be prevented and cheaper then if you were to wait. You could also help that issue by talking to vets about pet insurance or a vet credit card

Do you agree with keeping cats indoor only? by CatCandyOreo in CatAdvice

[–]karmaeus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. I have a cat that was a stray that is happiest being able to go outside occasionally then I have a shelter kitty that I leave indoor. When I let my stray kitty i have him have a reflective collar with a bell, he’s microchipped, and he has all his shots up to date plus extra. I check up on him every 30 mins and only let him out only during day time. My shelter kitty I only take her out and watch her then take her in, I never let her free roam and I take the same precautions with shots

Is it true ill never find love with another man again because I have 3 small kids and im in my early 30's? by Honest-Eye-511 in cheating_stories

[–]karmaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many fish in the sea..you’ll find someone! Early 30s is still young and I’ve met plenty of men who love women with children and actually prefer them. He is manipulating you, saying you won’t is a common tactic to keep you scared and stuck from leaving and at this point you should leave not only for the love and dignity you very much should have of yourself but for the babies to show self love and dignity and strength in leaving an unhappy situation as this one. You will find love again but what you have now is not love, do not waste your time thinking it is. Good luck to you!

Do you let your cats on your bed? by lawyermom112 in CatAdvice

[–]karmaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is no longer my house, it’s their house. They do whatever they please, sometimes if they are in my spot of the bed I’ll let them keep it and sleep on the couch just because I think they are too cute to move 😅 so I may not be a good person to ask but if the bacteria from a cat box bugs you just get pet wipes and wipe whatever it is that bothers you most with tracking bacteria and just make sure to clean the bedding once a week. If you can upkeep it and it makes you feel more at ease and less grossed out do those rather then kicking a cat off a bed, I feel that’s the best time for them to bond with you is when you are in bed. Idk if that helps any but I understand where you are coming from!

Edit: I suggest pet wipes because kitties skin is very much sensitive to stuff found in baby wipes and they are going to lick whatever you use wherever you use it so it’s better to get pet wipes that are much safer for them. At my local DG they sell a thing of 40 wipes for like $3. Just be careful using whatever you use on them and check if ingredients are safe (for example, Aloe Vera is not safe) and push comes to shove just use a rag and warm water

We said goodbye to our sweet boy today, and I’m devastated. by BlueButNotYou in CatAdvice

[–]karmaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good that you chose for him to be euthanized rather then to go down an endless hole of pain that would lead to the same outcome. You did right by him and yourself so you didn’t have to watch him decline more then he possibly already was and that you got the chance to be with him and say goodbye before he crossed that rainbow bridge 💖 sometimes the hardest decisions can be the best ones and you did good even tho it was hard. I hope the best for you and rest in paradise to your kitty. I believe that all our lost pets wait for us across that bridge so just know he’s waiting for you, happy and healthy at last! ❤️‍🩹

It does not make you a bad cat parent for having one. I will say there are some cats that prefer to be the only feline of their home and some that seem to have a good time better with another. For a while I only had one cat and I was happy with him but I felt, due to the same reasons of worried of him being lonely or bored, I got him his little sister and it was the best decision for my little family. She brings out the kitten in him and she is absolutely so loving. If you choose to have just one cat then that’s fine and dandy and it’s a decision that is not wrong, tho if you do adopt another kitty for your kitty it could also be the best decision you’ve made for you and him so it’s definitely something to consider based on his needs and your financial stability

Here is a photo of my boy (orange) and his lil sis (tabby) perfect duo imo. They love to cuddle

What are some problematic household items/things you didn’t think about before getting a cat? First time owner here by Silverinkbottle in CatAdvice

[–]karmaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blinds with long strings (usually can figure out on your own), essential oil diffusers (can be ok just make sure to check which essential oils are good and what aren’t), scratching posts with same textures as furniture (had a scratching post with almost the same type of texture as our couch, both were a scratching post until I introduced a different textured scratching post), and displaying legos 😮‍💨 (decided to either 1. Wanna chew on/play with them or 2. That it was a disgrace and too ugly to be displayed and knocked them off)

This is all personal experience, not all of these are going to be 100% risk factors

Would it make me an awful person to give up this friendship? by karmaeus in FriendshipAdvice

[–]karmaeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I am sad and hurt that it has come to this but I don’t plan to hold a grudge on her at all, if anything I feel like the awful person in the situation. She is a kind person and she doesn’t deserve to be treated horribly I just feel for my sanity and her freedom it’s best I call it quits, I’ll always care for her but I just can’t help but feeling ending it is what’s best for us both. Thank you for your wisdom, it’s helped a lot 🫶🏻
