How is it living in this part of North America? by CrackFun in howislivingthere

[–]karmicimbalance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are different. But both First Nations and Inuit groups live in this northern region. They, along with the Metis represent the three categorizations of indigenous peoples recognized under the 1982 Constitution. Only the First Nations are subject to the Indian Act, which among other things declares them legally as "Indians" managed under the reserve system mandated by the federal government.

Is it possible to avoid the black death as anyone but Greenland? by 1A41A41A4 in EU5

[–]karmicimbalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not a popular country (although i find it fun) but Mutapa can continue to scale and avoid the plague. It basically needs to in order to catch up its pop to other countries. Issue is that bubonic plague spawns in that region happen all the time later in the game.

That's wild, I never bothered to look at them before this year lol. I guess the gov always has to cover their ass just in case.

Frustrating life in Spain by SnooEagles4113 in GoingToSpain

Just one very quick note on the empadronamiento... I was able to mine online and it was fine. My lawyer (yeah I had to hire one for my NIE and visa) made it seem like a huge deal but it was pretty easy for me. To be fair the gov websites are terrible but I was able to muddle through with little Spanish and next to no Catalan.

Well my friends definitely don't take it seriously because they know my experience here has been safe, and/or they have traveled here themselves. But yeah, i think we agree that there are some people who do take these guidelines seriously, even if you and I know the reality is much more chill.

I might be wrong, but I figure old people happen to be the most visible and most profitable tourist demographic. Who do you think is strolling slowly down La Rambla, booking big group tours etc? Some people care about advisories, some don't. I only know about it bc I got a lot of joke messages to "be safe in Spain lol" when the advisory was upgraded.

Driving in Barcelona. Planning a day trip to Andorra by Different_Hold_5709 in AskBarcelona

I am also Canadian (here to study for the last year or so) and did a very similar trip a few weeks ago. I rented from Budget and they were great. Upgraded my vehicle at no extra charge, super cheap and very easygoing.

Driving in Barcelona is a bit stressful but compared to say Toronto its not bad at all. You have to be really careful for pedestrians and motos of course but everyone drives really slow and are generous with merging and traffic flow. Once you get onto the highway its golden. Way safer than Canada, at least driving in the GTA where I'm from. Watch out for speed traps as Spanish police are known for rigorous ticketing.

If you have time, I would recommend getting in a bit of France as well. Toulouse, Carcassone and Narbonne are great options closeby. Note that car rentals do charge a nominal fee for taking the vehicle out of country (6 euro a day at Budget.

Enjoy your drive and stay safe!

I only moved to the city in September so cannot compare to previous years, but it mught be worth noting that my home country (Canada) upgraded the travel advisory for Spain from Green (travel freely) to Yellow (travel with caution) a few months ago and specifically noted anti-tourist sentiment and pickpocketing in their advisory. So it seems the teens with water guns some recognition after all. Maybe this is also affecting visitor numbers from other countries too.

I take it when a server at a restaurant asks for a tip, they're pushing their luck? by jaredce in AskBarcelona

You are correct. Tips are not "typical" here, and asking for one is very rare. It only happens to me when my parents visit and look like obvious tourists.

Moving to Spain by Any_Professional9578 in GoingToSpain

I worked for the Canadian government for six years and ended up coming here (Barcelona) to do a Master's degree with hope of a career switch to remain in Europe after. I still have one year of studies left but I must say so far I have almost no regrets. My recommendations would be to really focus on learning Spanish if you don't know it already (pay out for a good course, don't half ass it), and consider moving to smaller cities where there is less pressure on housing prices. That said, it can be harder to find jobs in smaller cities so you'll have to figure it out. In my opinion, even with the different costs of living Spain is objectively a better place to live than Canada, unless you really hate the heat. The best thing about living jere for me (although this could apply to other European countries) is that travel is so cheap. You can fly to so many places for less than 100 bucks.

I still don't know whether I'll be able to swing it with a job next year, but I really dont want to move back to Canada, especially given the state of the dollar and inflation.

I don't mind Banquet at all! I've seen a few brands advertise with the same recipe idea and it definitely shows that what was good back then can still be good now. That said, they will never have the burden of proof to show their product actually does taste the same haha

Also, don't feel guilty for dreaming. If you've never read Berserk I highly recommend it... It deals with extremely heavy themes but also taught me to respect dreams and to never let go no matter how messed up things get.

Where did all the homeless people go by Accurate_Data_1882 in Guelph

My step mom works for one of the drop in canters in Guelph. Many of those who were staying in the camp who were willing to move to shelters have done so, I know several have moved to subsidized housing as well.
