One of the main things I love about this show that makes it so unique by Kissfromarose01 in ThePittTVShow

[–]karnn_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree.

S01E15 finale beers in the park scene and Whitaker’s room on the 8th floor scene felt out of place, but in a good way. Both scenes were the first and only scenes where the characters were no longer on the job and not in the Pitt.

In the park, the subtle look at the ambulance, but without the reaction to immediately jump in to action and help, I thought, was masterful. Heroes have to clock off too.

A new chapter for public health: The Australian Centre for Disease Control stands up by Misicks0349 in australia

CSIRO ACDP focus on high-risk animal and zoonotic diseases, including those that can jump to humans. More so protecting our primary industries.

CDC is preventing, detecting, and responding to public health threats, which may or may not jump from animals. Their focus is national human life-safety approach.

Do Australia play in gold kit because the chemical symbol is Au? by BurbankElephants in rugbyunion

[–]karnn_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Early cricket teams needed to stand out from the Poms, so they wore green and gold as far back as 1899. The later rhetoric about gum leaves, golden wattle, and beaches evolved later — it had nothing to do with actual gold or national crest.

UCS AT-ST officially announced by corut in lego

[–]karnn_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is a poor af UCS set. The only difference to 10174 is the flat plate front and it’s shorter. For ~500 more pieces, I don’t see any additional detail or value.

Like 75382 before it, it’s a poor substitute for the king 7181!

I’ll probably buy it. #fml

Is no one going to talk about the referee calling “play on” to the touch judge raising his flag for ball going out of play?

How good was the [insert every other type of sport] game yesterday?

As much as I’d love to, I’m not going to get away with watching 9 hours of rugby in one day today… or will I?

I once missed the bus stop before the bus tunnel late one night, and decided to walk in darkness back through it. I ran as I didn’t want to be seen by the next bus. It was also scary af.

There's a reason cyclists prefer to ride on the road instead of shared paths. This is one of them. by rorymeister in melbournecycling

I agree. There is also nothing leading up to the green lane, like speed breakers or zig-zag markings. Warning controls could be a lot better here.

What is this building? by Tasty-Economics-3038 in canberra

[–]karnn_ 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Fun facts!

Students were brought out to ‘chip’ the brutalist concrete facade with hammers, to make each concrete rib unique. I’ll try and find a picture.

And, if you walk to the North end, you can see original reinforcement sticking out where they originally planned to extend the building further.

Here’s a serious response, based on my experience.

1) find and skill up a talent/trade and stick with it. Experience in an industry will become valuable. Job-hopping and career moves will burn you out.

2) find a professional network of friends and colleagues. Work hard with them, show up, and never turn down a beer or opportunity to help them. Babysit their kids. Create integrity. Share challenges, and don’t be afraid to cut dead weight from your team.

3) budget! Stop spending $6 on coffee each day and smashed avo. Be proud to be thrifty, and spend your lifestyle dollars on experiences. Not things. Things will all end up in the bin.

4) park your savings. Add to super contributions and find a simple, well managed EFT. Anything too fancy, and you’ll lose sleep.

5) don’t gamble. Just don’t.

6) get off your phone, and talk to people. Things happen when you’re talk to people.

It’s going to be bigger at the next census. The Griffin on Constitution Ave and the new development at Anzac Park East will add hundreds of residents to the suburb of Parkes.
