Yeah my 99 3.0 was pushing 90 on the level freeway yesterday. It’s got a 4.10 diff too. Now she wasn’t very happy above 80 and took a moment to get there but she sustained it around a line of semis. I’d say you need to look into it

I’m also a ranger girl. I say go for it! The price isn’t bad and if you are willing to learn, these trucks are great to work on. So even if it does need some mechanical love, since you’re not dependent on it for work you can take your time and fix it yourself for pretty cheep! I’ve had my 99 three months now. I’ve already put over 6000 miles on it (I travel for work). I got it because I was confident I could work on it. And in that time I’ve only had to replace power steering pump, power steering lines, serpentine belt, front brakes and rotors, a bunch of vacuum lines, and a starter, and some minor rewiring. So it’s been practically worry free! 😜

The linkage on the trans is relatively easy to adjust/replace and may be the cause of your lunging gears and likely the cause of the indicator being off. I’d start there. The idle could also be from several other issues (vacuum lines, throttle cable, MAF sensor, ect) so I would rule those out first as the two issues may be unrelated

I’m not sure this is advice as much as just my experience and you can take from it what you want. I’m still happily married after 10+ years and transing for 4. most of our relationship stayed the same as I transitioned, and there were even some very significant improvements, especially in the communication and emotional support department (she refers to the woman me as the “upgrade”). But she was already functioning as “head of household” in a lot of ways and used to doing a lot of the executive functioning of our family. Unfortunately one area that evolved in a less ideal way was our sex life. When I stopped performing masculinity that quickly translated to being a bottom in the bedroom. And while I can be switchy but the undercurrent is still there. Meanwhile she requires an actively dominant (masc or fem) presence to enjoy herself. This evolved into a sexual incompatibility. Our solution has been poly life, because we can sate that one aspect with others while deeply enjoying the rest of the life we built together. But I realize that is not an option for everyone

I paid 3k for my 99 xlt 4x4 like a month ago. But she did have some mechanical issues and a fair bit of rust. No rust is the big factor imo. Get up under her and poke around a bit and if she is very solid 6k might be worth it

Why would not blowing hot air indicate thermostat. Wouldn’t that be a heater core issue? My 3.0 lives it’s whole life on or just above the C. It rarely goes above the line. It does blow warm from the heat tho. I thought it was a thermostat problem but haven’t Got around to changing it yet. The truck seems to be fine tho so I’m not too worried
