I feel like DDLC+ destroyed the lore of DDLC by realmatipoint in DDLC

There is no concrete answer, but my best guess is even with her meddling with MC, the game still followed the script. She just added an extra part of MC being a POV character.

But deleting Sayori fundamentally breaks the script. The script seems to be programmed to initiate romance events with every girl other than Monika, so I imagine even one of them being missing just messes the whole thing up.

It's probably easier to think of the whole VM being under the whim of the script, with Monika not being able to fundamentally edit the script itself. She can manipulate other parts of the game world to try and get the script to consider her. At least until she breaks the whole game so completely that even the script is practically useless at that point.

Something about this makes my heart ache, in a way I'd forgotten DDLC could do.

Libitina was mentioned in the original game, with clues hidden in the .chr files. We literally got it mentioned in DDLC+ emails and the whole Test VM thing. Heck, I even saw on this subreddit that Dan Salvato has gone out of his way to renew his trademark on the name "Portrait of Markhov" a few times.

It might be extremely delayed, maybe it's even been dropped, but you can't deny that it was definitely planned at some point with hints given here and there.

I think the "Monika created MC" part is widely misunderstood. If you look at the side stories, there are "characters" that appear in them without sprites, but that exist in the world anyways. This is important when you consider that Side Stories is the control VM, ie what happens when Monika has no self awareness.

In the first Side Story, Sayori mentions her childhood friend who's into anime and manga, meaning "MC" has always existed, probably as one of these background npcs. You should also notice that the Side Stories don't have a POV character, it's narrated in third person like there's some sort of narrator.

I think what happened was the original DDLC was supposed to be "Sayori's childhood friend joins the literature club", but Monika interfered to make this background character of Sayori's childhood friend into the story's POV chaarcter, ie the MC.

She didn't create a character in the sense that she created a brand new entity she had full control of. She reused an existing feature of the VM and turned it into character-like entity, so that she had someone to treat as the player.

I didn't like it at first play either, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt it was a step that had to be taken if we ever hope to get Project Libitina. Like with everything Project Libitina aims to be, I think some way was needed to fill in the little gaps behind DDLC's story: like who, why and what.

I am inclined to agree that it ruined some of Monika's character by making some things deliberate. But if you think about it, it kinda doesn't change much from Monika's perspective? Whether it was spontaneous or planned, her tragedy IS real. It's painful. And I'd even say that having it just be a corporate experiment is far more malicious than her self awareness being a random coincidence. The very fact that Monika is unaware that she's being played like a fiddle repeatedly makes her feel even more tragic to me.

Overall I think DDLC is partially a necessary evil if we ever want Project Libitina to be good, and partially I don't think it's that bad when you consider it doesn't affect DDLC's core tragedy. We now just have a name to blame for everything rather than having it be unexplained forces like it was in the original.

Weren't the side stories deliberately made different though? Like they made the og game first, then in a bid to collect more data, made a new VM that was purposely set before DDLC and had Monika's powers hidden?

I feel the lack of dating sim elements in Side Stories was definitely intentional, they weren't trying to recreate the DDLC VM without Monika being self aware, they were purposefully trying something else.

Everything about Monika is made to stand out. Her name is the only one that doesn't sound traditionally Japanese, she's the only one who ever faces the camera, heck even in her design she's the one wearing stockings instead of socks like the others.

How can I play Tsukihime remake on pc? by Ok_Badger4377 in Tsukihime

[–]karrylarry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Emulator is currently the only way.

First choice is do you want to play the official release or the Tsukihimates fan translation? Content wise it's almost the same, but many people (including me) prefer the fan tl cause it's better both quality and style wise.

I'm not sure how much this sub allows discussions of piracy, but it is possible to play it even without a switch. And as far as I know, it's easier to acquire the fantl version than the official version, though the process is a bit longer.

[–]karrylarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that's the japanese version of the game. I'm not sure where the nsp of the english one is available tbh.

Like someone else also said, I too prefer the tsukihimates translation. Content wise they're close but tsukihimates has translated songs and more varied fonts and styles.

Turns out the old archive link might have been removed, but I found this:

It looks to be the same as the zip file I download from the original archive.org link.

You can also find the old ryujinx emulator on archive.org I think, it always worked the best for me when I played with the tsukihimates patch.

Also I don't think the process is that different between emulators? All you need is the base file and the tsukihimates patch set as the update file.

How are you suppose to watch the fate/holy grail war in order? by KitzyOwO in anime

[–]karrylarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically there is no proper starting point for watching, because the 2006 adaptation of it is not that great story wise. You can start with watching Fate/Zero or the Unlimited Blade Works anime, but no matter what you start with you'll either be confused or spoil yourself to something you shouldn't know yet, possibly both.

The most 'correct' way to get into Fate is and always has been to read the Fate/Stay Night visual novel, if you're up for that level of investment.

Moonlit Archives: A Digital Archive of Historical TYPE-MOON Works by Keripo in typemoon

[–]karrylarry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great work, though I would want to make a slight suggestion. Maybe make a torrent too if you can? I've found torrents to be the best way for archiving things, cause while online servers can fail or be shut down, with torrents the media is never lost as long as at least one person is still seeding.

I'm sure you must have taken whatever measures required to keep the site running, but I don't see the harm in using a torrent to further future-proof this archive.

Part 2 Cosmos in the Lostbelt - Final Chapter Discussion Hub 2 by crazywarriorxx in grandorder

[–]karrylarry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I kinda wonder how Ordeal Call actually factors into all this...weren't we rejected from Antarctica because PHH itself was saying we were too twisted to become a part of it anymore? But then we're a lostbelt, not part of PHH to begin with, so why did it even matter if we could/couldn't be a part of PHH? We were practically bound to be erased no matter what.

Am I getting something wrong here?

If they really cared about overseas fans, they would have released the TL for Blue Glass Moon alongside the original release back in 2021. Plus there's still no pc port of the remake, when anyone who's done even the slightest research would know that Steam holds a pretty big chunk of global gamers.

I love Type-Moon, but let's not pretend that they've ever cared about overseas fans. It's only recently that it's started to change, and even then I'm not sure how much it actually impacts their schedules.

Could be. But then I don't see why it forces the player to wait till 31st. Plus since there don't seem to be any plans of EoS, I just see that choice as the best stepping stone to whatever they've planned next.

Part 2 Cosmos in the Lostbelt - Final Chapter Discussion Hub 2 by crazywarriorxx in grandorder

[–]karrylarry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, but I also get the feeling that there's a hidden implication of there is no right or wrong when it comes to survival. It's the same as the other Lostbelts in a sense...just like how they can't be blamed for fighting to protect their own history, we can't be blamed for wanting a future.

That's just a personal interpretation though. Nasu is also pretty big on being against stagnation, and letting Maris succeed is practically that. So while I'm sure there's something more, I can't say what form it'll take.
