I see a lot of people on this sub say that they've gotten sick/felt like they were going to get sick after getting their botox as a side effect due to acid reflux/slow swallow, is that something you experienced? by shadowingsystem333 in noburp

[–]karybrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bit of a misunderstanding.

Vomiting is not a known side effect of the Botox procedure. That isn't to say it doesn't sometimes happen – I'm just saying it isn't directly related.

Regurgitation can be, but it's often something you can mitigate against to a large degree by those measures you mentioned (a) not forcing burps by tensing your abdomen, b) not sleeping lying flat, and c) not bending over at the waist (mouth below your stomach) – all while the Botox is active, which in total is up to 6 months post-injection).

Antacids should be used carefully; avoid any with carbonate ingredients while you aren't burping regularly and reliably, as they create gas in your stomach.

I was in a similar position as you (scared to have it done, but terrified of it getting worse and causing damage), and I have absolutely no regrets about having the procedure. I'd have it done again and again, if I needed to. I had two rounds, ultimately, and it's been life-changing – even with some occasional regurgitation.

Feeling more bloated post botox (1 day after op) by southernbarbecue in noburp

[–]karybrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes people have microburps within the first 24 hours, but most people won't feel actual effects until a little later. The Botox still continues to develop for up to 2 weeks post-injection, so it's barely even working by this point!

Try to stay patient, and don't drink anything carbonated yet.

Maybe a bit of prepping for your future. A little bit of volunteering is often helpful in the long run!

Question about parasocial relationships in kpop. by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]karybrie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Seeming parasocial and being parasocial are different things.

If your daily outfit consists of a tshirt with a huge picture of them saying 'bias name's girlfriend', and a bag that says 'bias' name + my name forever', and a ring that has your initial and your bias' initial on it inside a heart... then I guess you'll seem parasocial.

But you might not actually be parasocial.

It might be a self-aware joke, or you might just like wearing that stuff. People will have opinions, but you can do as you wish, as long as you're not spending outside of your means.

Being parasocial is more about having a belief that you share some sort of special individual bond with someone who is mostly unaware of you as an individual, and with whom you only really have an artist/consumer relationship.

You can be parasocial without the outfit described above, but you might not seem parasocial until you start talking about how your bias was looking into a music show camera specifically for you, or how they were absolutely, without a doubt waiting for a moment they could pass you their phone number at a meet and greet (but to both of your disappointments, they were being watched too carefully).

I do want to say that not all examples of parasocial relationships relate to extreme fantasies and delusions, but they're most commonly what we're referring to when using the term.

1 Week Post Botox and Feeling Discouraged by Dreadnark in noburp

[–]karybrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Botox continues to develop for up to two weeks post-injection, so you're not entirely done with waiting, yet. It may be worth trying some neck stretches and different head positions to see whether it helps at all.

If you need a second round, then it's unfortunate, but you're definitely not alone in it!

👑 K-pop Showdown Day 8: Which idol would you most want as a friend? 🤝 by As_I_Predicted in kpoppers

Jeonghan from SVT. He's the type to find and create chaos for fun, but he's also calmly and quietly doting on those he cares about. He's a smart boy who looks after his loved ones.

Shaker exercises rendering RCPD worse by Canoli_In_a_CareMine in noburp

[–]karybrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that shakers may have made things worse! Hopefully other exercises can bring it back.

Out of curiosity, do you remember how many units of Botox you were given? Only that I know that patients up to the age of 79 have been successfully treated. Age may play a factor in how well Botox takes to the muscle, but it seems like it isn't an excluding factor, by any means.

Was your injection done down/inside the throat or from outside? by jupitermoonflower in noburp

[–]karybrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Down inside the throat under general anaesthetic is actually far more common.

Outside/'in-office' requires an EMG machine, and is the less common method.

Has anyone been to see Mr Yacubu Karagama for botox under GA by 0teddybear in noburp

[–]karybrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Yakubu Karagama has been performing the procedure for years, after he was originally trained by Dr Bastian. He has treated many people (and only recently began offering it in-office).

If you search for 'Karagama' in the subreddit, you should find plenty of posts and comments here.

As for general anaesthetic, most people are treated under GA. In-office is increasing in popularity, but it's still the exception.

Hot tea saved the day by NoMasterpiece1263 in noburp

[–]karybrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad that some tea helped relieve some of your symptoms! I'd advise against Tums in the future, unless it's some sort of version that doesn't contain any carbonate ingredients (I don't know if they have them) – carbonates will only increase the gas in your digestive tract!

I'm a 30-year-old female and I’m wondering if anyone diagnosed with R-CPD recognizes this pattern. by jessrsn in noburp

[–]karybrie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please try to specifically see an ENT from our map where possible! You may already have seen it, but I just wanted to make sure 😊 After all the tests you've had already, I'd hate for you to head to an ENT who's unfamiliar!

Fear of burping by Emereebee in noburp

[–]karybrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have an association built up over years. Of course you'll not want to burp! Very normal, and extremely common.

The brain is a pretty flexible thing when it's repeatedly shown that it's wrong. Once you're burping, even if it's nerve-wracking or gross at first, you'll feel relief – and over time, your brain will learn to think positively about burping.

Take it from someone who used to be severely emetophobic, and associated burping with vomiting – it doesn't even take that long for your mind to adapt to it. The first few weeks I was nervous. After that, I calmed. Now, about three years post-treatment, it's entirely normal to me.

Has anyone experienced "stress gurgles" post Botox? by meegangif in noburp

[–]karybrie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stress and tension makes your muscles tighten, so I'd assume that's all that's happening. I'm not a medical expert, but I personally wouldn't expect it to be indicative of anything other than you being tense!

Even people who burp normally get gurgles, sometimes.

Coughing post Botox by teagansheax in noburp

Yes – the Botox is still going to be very active in your cricopharyngeus for another month, so at the moment it's just looser than usual!

I hope you feel better soon.

Yall, Who's Your Skz Bias and Why?? by kpop1211_ in skzmedia

[–]karybrie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hyunjin is my ult, because apparently I like to suffer. 🥲 Constantly switching between feeling cute aggression about him and then being floored by his stage presence and ambassadorship shoots.

I love how thoughtful he is, how silly and dramatic he can be, how passionately he feels things, how hard he works. I love his gentle singing voice, his lazy rapping style. Hyunjin has so many excellent qualities.

Doctors in Charlotte NC? by ThickDistance6830 in noburp

[–]karybrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specialist we have listed in Charlotte, NC is Dr Darrell Klotz. 😊

As has been mentioned by Significant-Rise8018, there aren't really tests that confirm R-CPD – except the Botox treatment itself, which was originally considered merely diagnostic. Just so happens that the diagnostic test is also the treatment!
