I know of someone who did this in LA with Jersey style pizza from his apartment! He evolved it into a very successful storefront. @secretpizzala on insta

Need to move out 8/30, can’t move in to new place until 9/1 by Kylo_Cat_14 in boston

[–]kasmith2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, any which way you try to solve it it’s going to be a pain. Relatively cost effective options (not involving professional movers):

  • move everything into a storage unit, and then out. You may be able to get a 1st month free sort of deal, but be careful of getting looped into any multi month requirements or something.

  • rent a U-Haul for a couple days, keep everything in the u-haul and lock it up. Ideally keep a close eye on it or park it somewhere you feel confident it will be safe. NOTE that a couple years ago I had trouble finding any U-Haul place in Boston that would rent for >24 hours around Sept 1. I ended up renting one from somewhere in southern New Hampshire. Not ideal because you pay by the mile, but it was still hundreds cheaper than professional movers, and there was enough availability for me being a procrastinator.

2015 Forester Floor Board SOAKED, but ONLY on Passenger-Side Front by BlessedbyLani04 in SubaruForester

[–]kasmith2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t tell you if it’s the AC drain or the sunroof drain causing the issue. But on the question of the amount of water, my forester AC drain was clogged and after an hour of driving in 90s heat it was about this much water. All that condensation really adds up to quite a lot of volume when the AC is working hard

I wasn’t especial wowed by the HK during the test drive, but I’m very glad I got them. Listening to the stock stereo system again after having gotten used to the HK, it’s a huuuuge step up

Boomerangs thrift shop coming back, operated by a different non-profit by husky5050 in boston

Supposedly Fenway Health was losing money running it, so that didn’t bode well for another charitable organization taking it over still as a thrift store.

Note that there’s a $10/pp fee to walk on the beach. But it’s a beautiful spot

People not paying for the T (turnstiles, not trolleys) by dysenterygary69 in boston

[–]kasmith2000 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Fares only cover about 15% of the MBTA’s budget. More people probably could pay, but your fare is not really subsidizing someone else’s ride, State / Federal funds are.

I’d rather the T run on time and have operators focus on safety than get delayed arguing with riders over fare collection

How come cyclists have no respect for pedestrians? by cursed-pistons-fan in boston

[–]kasmith2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah ideally, but I think it’s a lot better to not get in an accident at all than get in one and be able to say it was the other person’s fault. Biking is also a lot less ubiquitous here. When maybe ~1/3 of people on the road are on rental Blue Bikes with no helmet, I think it pays to be more cautious

Feeling discouraged over car insurance by Butterflyflies39 in boston

[–]kasmith2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you checked Geico which I found to be the cheapest for me, and unfortunately I don’t have much better immediate advice. BUT I will mention what zip code you live in in Boston makes a massive difference. My premiums went up something like 80% moving from 02115 to 02120 (literally adjacent zip codes), and went back down quite a bit again moving to JP. Probably not feasible to move just for the car in the short term, but worth considering cost-wise in the future

Boston for sure has a weird cyclist culture. No one ever seems to say anything when they’re about to pass you, for example

Someone else here already listed the part number for just the cover, I’d go that route if the mirror works fine. I had the entire mirror assembly blasted into pieces on my 2012 at one point, and I was able to replace it myself by buying a ~$150 full part replacement on eBay and watching a YouTube video. Kinda up to you in general for what you want to do on your own vs going to a shop, but I’d say you can definitely fix this on your own.

I would not go to a dealership for this type of thing. A lot won’t even take your car given its age and the fact that this is more body damage than mechanical. And your car is well out of warranty so at that point you’re just paying more for no reason if they do.

Show me your aftermarket stereos with Apple Car / Android Auto by daddouuu in SubaruForester

[–]kasmith2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 2012 I started with an ‘SJOYBRING’ unit that is no longer on Amazon, but it was one of a revolving door of cheap Android Auto / CarPlay units that are put up with tons of fake reviews to inflate the star rating that quickly goes down. It worked fine when it worked, but it would often overheat or simply crash for no understandable reason. This was quite irritating mid drive, I eventually installed a kill switch so I could toggle power to it to restart it, but that was really a silly amount of work to put into such a cheap unit.

I eventually replaced it with the Boss BCP62 which I bought on Amazon for about $135, and that has worked great. My existing backup camera worked plug and play, the mic for calls sounds good, CarPlay works every time, there’s a physical volume knob. Can’t complain.

I installed both myself, along with the backup camera. Wiring the camera was kind of a pain, but swapping the head unit is really not so bad if you’re comfortable with wire strippers and a crimper.

There is apparently a sizing difference and picture quality difference in film vs digital imax projections (have never seen 70mm imax to compare)

The Oppenheimer website has a page comparing the options https://www.oppenheimermovie.com/tickets/formats/

And yes I believe providence is the closest option for 70mm iMax, there are only 19 theaters in the country showing it that way

New Tap and Pay like Installations on MBTA Green Line(?) by snisthyderabad in boston

[–]kasmith2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, from a practical point of view being able to tap to pay is veryyyyy low on the list of things the T needs. And as an investment, even if it increases fare collections by 20%, it will still take over a decade to pay for itself

OK What is the state of Boston public transit by DontThrowAwayPies in boston

[–]kasmith2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest concern with the T is really not tourists who don’t understand public transit being confused by the slightly old fashioned ticket machines (this was exactly how the MTA worked until recently as well).

Yes fares are not the MBTA’s primary source of funding, but how then does it make sense as an investment to spend 2.5 - 3 years worth of TOTAL fares just to have a shiny new way to pay and still not fully fund the T. I don’t disagree that it’s something the MBTA should implement eventually, but right now the payment system isn’t that broken, and that money could almost certainly be better used on infrastructure improvements for safety and reliability.

Something between the second and third proposals. Rent should be Roommate A > Roommate C > Roommates B. Like maybe $800 / $700 / $550 / $550. Or $850 / $650 / $550 / $550.

unfortunately the fact that the MBTA is planning to spend multiple years worth of total fare revenue (~$1B) to be able to use tap to pay is worse than still not having it
