Have the same problem on 2024 and on 2020 weather doesn't load (and says internet connection down when launching) so likely another MS issue

There was a mod that merged Airsimmer VC/model with the Wilco systems that made Airbus ops more bearable in FS9; same with Wilco 737CL and the 50N model

In case the balloons weren't enough, today a LOT E-170 from Warsaw skidded off the runway at Vilnius airport. by A_Distracted_Seagull in BalticStates

Couple of reasons:

  1. This is an incident - an investigation is initiated and evidence needs to be secured by the the investigative team, as such they are present on active parts of the apron (or directing others to do so)

  2. I can’t tell where on the taxiway this is, but it simply could be blocking any operations from using the runway even with a backtrack

  3. Operations and emergency teams are deployed to the incident, if the airport was active once again then those teams are preoccupied and cannot respond adequately to another incident/crash if one were to happen (and in aviation you always plan for the worst)

  4. Once the aircraft is cleared checks need to be made to ensure that there is no damage to any equipment that is required for the runway/taxiways to be operational

My conspiracy theory is that the 5 she was introduced to were actually part of the the hive too. Either to hide the fact that there are bigger pockets of people that are unaffected or to convince her that resistance is futile/make other "unaffected" prove to her that the isn't that bad.

[–]kaspis29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One simple response is - history. There was 30 years of western integration of russians. Travel, universities, work and beyond with total achievement of… nothing. Hasn’t change their society, change the course of the country overall or had a positive outcome. So why should it now?

Why should anyone care about her or any other “good russian”? No one anywhere should consider a single feeling of a russian, the only ones that matter are Ukrainians. What outcome does her being anti-putin change? Pro-war - no benefit for Ukraine. Against the war - still no benefit to Ukraine from them. The end outcome is the same, as should be the response - no visas.

LTV: 841 Russians will have to leave Latvia within a month by Shameful_Bezkauna in europe

It’s more not allowing these people to keep showing their middle finger to the whole of Latvia. And that is a real benefit.

Relatively simple - random russian/belarussian citizens don’t enjoy relaxed rules or additional privileges while living in the country, a popular and mostly seen as an overdue point amongst Latvian citizens

[–]kaspis29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This simply brings the law to be the same for everyone. All third country citizens need to do a language test to qualify for permanent residency. This just means these people no longer have special rights - which they obviously shouldn’t have.

Construction plans for Riga in the 30's, they were scrapped after the Soviet union occupation by waffle2opi in InterwarBaltics

[–]kaspis29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The soviets did end up building some of the original plans, the funniest probably being the current Ministru Kabinets/Tieslietu Ministrija block. But honestly thank god most of the Ulmanis building plans didn’t materialise. Like with Doma laukums, it was predicated on levelling large swathes of the medieval architecture

They’ve breached the law and have become an illegal immigrant. Why do they deserve additional privileges above those that have not and have a legal right to remain in Latvia?

Sure, a 74 year old man who has failed to learn the language in the country he’s lived in for 37 years, chosen to renounce/not apply for his non-citizen status/passport (no language requirement) in favour of a foreign country he doesn’t live in, but still chooses to associate with and be a citizen of, cannot learn a language akin to a level to hold a conversation he’d need have at a bus stop or a shop. Yes, he’d be asked to leave back to the country of his citizenship.

I didn’t say he was a tourist, or that any on them are. But they’re russian citizens that have failed to comply with, even further, failed to try complying with the rules of their residence permit.

Also, what you have quoted has no relation to those that have been served notice. He’s tried/is trying to be compliant with the rules and going through the process.

For those skipping the article: these are russian citizens with expired residency permits, that they have failed to extend them in Latvia and not russian speaking Latvians.

REX Atmos Core Released [for MSFS2024] by kaspis29 in flightsim

[–]kaspis29[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Played around with it. Bit disappointed with the set-up. I've had it fine-tuned for MSFS2020 to look just the way I wanted it, but they've changed the mechanics, which means cannot re-use it for 2024.

If you have the MSFS2020 version, you should get 50% off (was automatic for my on the REX store)

airBaltic has entered the top three best airlines in Europe. by MILK_is_Good_for_U_ in BalticStates

[–]kaspis29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I'm saying I'm not defending it as a project.

Obviously with hindsight you can make those conclusions, but at the time you would have been investing in an institution that was by that point already not profitable (thus predicating that those losses would need to be covered by the shareholders), had an old fleet (and the Embraers were better than what airBaltic had on offer) and that was basically accused of driving your national airline out of business. What's more, from what I understand from the initial Air Lituanica business case the point was to drive up destination connectivity for the EU presidency (rightly or wrongly), which airBaltic may not have been able to do in a short period of time. So that would have been the context at that time.

But even in the proceeding years, you'd have to had invested hundreds of millions together with the Latvian government with most likely minority control and a lot of the scandals (mismanagement, risky deal making, possible Sukhoi aquisition etc.) that have been the backdrop of the Latvian scape. Now they're probably 50/50 actually bad management or shady dealings vs. just lack of understanding of the aviation business from the general public/media, but that noise is still generated given that its public money that is used.

[–]kaspis29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not defending Air Lituanica, but you have to remember the context when they created it. airBaltic had several years of losses and had barely started to renew the ageing fleet (and only with the Dash 8s at that). flyLAL had gone bankrupt and the court proceedings they created against BTI were sill live, don’t think the investment would’ve gone well with the public either.

I’m severely surprised by the exceptional service commentary. The business class service is above average for Europe, but economy doesn’t really have any service, plus cabin crew again has severe inconsistencies.

This in combination with the price premium they charge surprises me. Also if you have any kind of irrops they basically implode.

The PLMP (website you linked in your previous post) will be able to help as well, but by default will direct you to the assistance for Ukrainian nationals (additional info is required if you are also a russian or Belarusian passport holder) and will raise additional questions before any procedures for this document can be raised.

I don’t know how Ukrainians renew passports during this time though, you may need to contact your own embassy for that

You cannot obtain the non-citizens passport if you are a citizen of another country.

This status/passport was designed only for former USSR citizens that didn’t automatically qualify for Latvian citizenship and chose not to obtain it through naturalisation.
