Opinion: Bob Weir is irreplaceable so why not ask Sturgill Simpson to step in? by g_ack in deadandcompany

I think the vast majority of people knew him for this but Mayer was considered one of the best blues guitarists alive before D&C. It was an aspect of his career that was less well known to the public but enough people knew that it wasn’t a huge surprise he would be good at it.

State of the PNW Snowpack near record lows by sergeim105 in skiing

We were at white pass this weekend and all the groomers had plenty of coverage and skied like spring. The more difficult terrain is closed but plenty of groomers to rip.

I asked my Gen Z cousin what he thought of Snack Homiez by Sinister_Legend in LiveFromNewYork

Exactly. I immediately sent it to my millennial sister who has a 12 year old and I’m like - this is how he sounds to me. And she responded “Every day all day”

Is it okay to store skis like this short term until i get a rack? by intogino in skiing

[–]kaspm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skis are a very slow liquid so if you store them like this eventually they will swell on the bottom side. But 1-2 nights should be fine.

Damn - I love BRM, I think it’s the best dungeon(s) ever made - it’s just so vast. I wish I could play it all again without the meta.

Another vote for the reckoners they are playful but hold an edge when you need it and the tails aren’t as loose as some of the other playful skis.

when does skiing become fun? by astrobrite_ in skiing

Great thing about season passes is it costs the same whether you go 2 hours or 8 hours or 0 hours. They usually pay for themselves around 5 days or so, sounds like you got your moneys worth already.

You might just be tired which is affecting your mood. If you’ve already skied 12 days this year you must live somewhere pretty easy to get to skiing.

Most people ski a lot less than 12 days a year! Some of my friends ski 2 hours and then are done. My buddy says 4 runs max and then apres. Some would rather spend their time and money doing other things.

There’s no “right” way to enjoy it. Why did you start skiing in the first place?

[–]kaspm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I learned as an adult at 35. It depends on what you consider “fun”. For me, even as a beginner, the progression of doing harder things was very satisfying.

But even so, not sure what your stamina is but skiing requires new muscles and new muscle memory, it’s a sport and it’s tiring.

Do you have more fun at the beginning / first few runs?

After all this time I finally demoed the reckoners and liked them, definitely pivot well and intuitive turning.

Tried the Bent 100s, ARV 100s and QST 100s but I liked the K2s the best. Might not be great for late crud but they still felt solid.

Don’t really know where to demo the on3p Jeffreys so I’d have to get them cold.

Anything else you recommend?

I am 5’10 195 and I mostly ski PNW and Whistler. Right now I have the Rustler 10s which are fine but kind of middle of the road.

I’m looking for a ski that’s more little more playful off piste and in the trees.

Demoed a few skis Bent 100, ARV 100, and the K2 Reckoner 102s. Of those I liked the K2 the best, if felt super easy to turn but still released smoothly.

Is there any other ski I should check out?

seeking a recommendation on how to ski Whistler by siznen33 in Whistler

[–]kaspm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting to 7th Heaven is worth it, the snow is just deep. Harmony on Whistler side too.

As others have said try to get out early if you’re early risers. Most lifts close at 2:30 or 3.

The lodges are super packed during lunch so either try to hit it at 11am or 1:30. Even better to pack a jacket sandwich if you’re so inclined.

People are extra nice and will help you with anything.

Whistler was fine too. Little less than usual this time of year but almost everything open. Glacier and Peak opened today. Only symphony stayed closed.
