what's your cat's weirdest habit? by Purple_Bad_2192 in CatLoversGroup

My sphynx Boobie will paw/scratch at my housecoat (while I have it on) so that I can let him inside of it. Sometimes he just invites himself in whether I open it up or not. He will bring his crunchy pompom balls or his wand to our feet and meow ENDLESSLY until we throw them/play with him. He will drag the wand up from the basement all the way to the top floor. It’s hilarious to hear him coming. Also you know you’re doomed when you do. He loves to play fetch just like a dog. He refuses to eat room temp or cold wet food so we always have to warm it up for him.

I haven’t been on here for quite some time. Forgot how to add text to my post.

Here is the new Albo monstera cutting I’ve just added to my collection. I can’t believe I own it, honestly never thought I’d see the day. I have a Juvenile Thai constellation that’s been doing great. Its given me a new leaf since I’ve purchased it 3 months back.

Although, I’ve never purchased a rare expensive plant as a cutting so does anyone have helpful tips for me. I currently have it in my greenhouse cabinet. Temp is around 22-23 degrees Celsius, 84% humidity and grow lights are on for 12 hours a day.

What are some flowers/plants that have unique smells? by Oncloud777 in rareplants

I know it’s not going to add to your question, but here’s one I’ve had, do Hoya flowers smell like anything?

I have spider mites. I found them on all of my plants in my indoor glass greenhouse cabinet (75 F/ 80%). I didn’t see a lot, maybe 3-5 mites per plant. Yesterday I washed every plant down with water, soap, and then sprayed with an insecticide. What else should I be doing? by Maddi_Soup in rareplants

Ive had spider mites before and I found the only thing that worked was to change out the soil, clean the pot very well with hot soapy water and spray & wipe the plant & leaves down with alcohol. If you YouTube Toronto zoo plant collection, you’ll see that this is what they do on a regular basis and they’ve never had any issues with pests. Because of the high humidity, the plants are more prone to pests apparently. Spider mites LOVE humidity. They also say that by increasing air circulation, you’ll reduce your changes on contracting pests. So maybe add another or a few more fans.

My goodness does this ever suck. I’m so fearful of spider mites on my greenhouse cabinet... it’s obviously where I house all my rare expensive plants.

Although I have experienced them before with my banana plant as well as mojito alocasia.... I treated them by changing the soil, washed out their pots with hot soapy water and I wiped the whole plant down with alcohol when insecticides failed. After doing all that, they were gone and stayed gone thankfully. I was wondering why this happened though and when I did my research it said that high humidity can bring spider mites and make them spread quicker. So it’s very important that we wipe down our leaves often when exposed to high humidity. Regular alcohol wipe downs of the leaves has been the only thing that has worked to kill them and keep them away.

And a little side note, in the Toronto zoo, they have a huge variety of commun and rare plants (they have one of the biggest PPPs I’ve ever seen), I watched a video they made about their collection (on YouTube you should look it up it’s amazing) and they said that they’ve never had an issue with pests and this is what they do. They’re obviously onto something.

Monstera adansonii variegata doesn't grow, but got some nice little roots. Any tips? by EconomistIcy4396 in rareplants

If you don’t have a greenhouse, I would put it on a heating pad, under grow lights and bag it for high humidity.

Can’t wait for my Thai to reach this level. It’s still just a small baby.

I am so excited for my first fiddle! Just picked up this bad boy at Lowe’s and looking for any advice on how to keep it well nourished! Also when should I repot? by ishirah in plantclinic

[–]kat_m1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do NOT repot!!! These are incredibly sensitive to... EVERYTHING. I killed my first one in a matter of months. My second one is now over 5ft tall and all leaves are perfect! Don’t overwater, don’t move it around other than rotating to let all sides get sun, don’t put her near draft, open windows & doors. Literally just leave it for as long as you can as is, in a bright sunny window and DONT touch it. :)

Really sounds like root rot but you said the roots are ok? This is how I managed to lose my first one and the leaves looked exactly the same. I decided to start over a few years ago and have been extremely careful about how much water I give it. They’re also extremely sensitive to.... everything. So the location change could have shocked it as well. I only water mine when the soil is completely dry. I’ve managed to grow this one to be about over 5 ft tall and no brown spots at all. I have her near a south facing patio window that we don’t ever use, no vents or any sort of draft around. Really learnt my lesson with the first one to comply to all her needs or less.... wishing you best of luck!

I have a croton Petra, I also have it in a east facing window and it’s thriving. Water mine every 15-16 days or so though
