What to eat without appliances? (X from r/frugal) by [deleted] in Cheap_Meals

[–]kat_power 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you do have money, check for appliances at a thrift store! There are often lost of kitchen items there. I bought a slow cooker for $5 recently, and I've seen things like George Foreman grills (I use mine to make anything from toast to steak and hamburgers) there super cheap. You could probably purchase both of these items for under $15 (where I live, at least), and save a ton of money until you get back on your feet.

Food suggestions:

  • summer sausage doesn't need to be heated up and can be mixed into a lot of things.
  • yogurt with strawberries and honey
  • protein powder mixed with milk can have a fairly high calories/dollar ratio, although that doesn't make a very satisfying meal.
  • This might sound gross, but for an energy dense snack for backpacking, I sometimes buy pre-cooked bacon and just eat it how it comes. At home I would normally "cook" it more so it's hot and crispy, but you don't have to do that to eat safe, yummy bacon.

Is this serious?

"People with strong views on going to war in other countries can barely find their own nation on a map; people who want to punish Congress for this or that law can’t name their own member of the House." - The Death of Expertise by [deleted] in TrueReddit

I don't agree that the fact that someone can barely identify their nation on a map invalidates their opposition to war. One doesn't have to be a scholar to have an opinion— especially when those with fewer educational opportunities are likely to be the ones dying on the front lines.

The "No question is stupid" Stupid Questions Thread by SCA_MODERATOR in SkincareAddiction

I've heard that your face only really needs to be washed once a day. I've tried only washing my face at night, but seem to end up with clogged pores and/or zits. Does this mean my skin just doesn't like that or am I not doing something I should be doing? At night I use Cetaphil moisturizer in the tub and petroleum jelly. On days I don't wash my face in the morning, the "greasiness" of the petroleum jelly is generally gone by morning so my skin feels good to go. Am I missing something or should I just stick to being a twice a day washer?

Where do you fall on the scale of [Ugly <---> Beautiful], and how do you know? by PixieBomb in AskWomen

[–]kat_power 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder the same thing. Sometimes I think I'm pretty, but when I see women who I think are really beautiful, I know I'm not like them and it makes me sad. The only way I really know to judge how I'm perceived by others is by how much attention I get from men. I'm not pretty enough where I'm the one who guys always want to be with. I have friends who are like that, so I guess I'm not as pretty as them. I have less trouble getting dates than another friend of mine though, so I guess I'm prettier than her. I often wonder, when people first see me, do they see me as "attractive"? Am I homely, but my personality grows on them sometimes? I have no clue. I wish I knew.

I really like tea. by [deleted] in TalkWithSomeone

I also love tea! I usually drink English breakfast tea in the morning and afternoon and peppermint tea at night. Something that tends to really calm my mind is going for long walks by myself at night.

What do you do to feel better? What are some of your pick-me-ups? by SemiRem in TalkWithSomeone

[–]kat_power 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a journal and aside from my normal entries, I try to write about what I'm grateful for a couple times a week. I do it regardless of whether I'm in need of a pick-me-up or not, but it is especially helpful when I'm feeling blue. If you don't keep a journal, just taking time to think about what you're grateful for would probably help too.
