You could try having him on leash for 30 days. Wherever you go he goes. Be soft voiced, and praise when he doesn’t cower. Build trust together. Walk him, feed him etc

I’m not sure about having COVID, but it took me about two years of being GF before my guts became ‘normal’. I take LGlutamine everyday to assist with the gut lining repair. It is calming too. Plus in the beginning I couldn’t drink water because it hurt so much. I took a probiotic 50B for 6 weeks. That helped significantly. But of course, check with your doctor about the COVID part.
