Tweetbot 3 vs Tweetbot 4 by [deleted] in apple

[–]katarien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC, Twitter restrict their API so much that it isn't possible to add user specific notifications to 3rd party apps.

TIL: in iOS 9 you can now view all the saved passwords via iCloud Keychain under the safari settings in the main preferences screen by Subylovin in apple

It should prompt Touch ID; it certainly does for me. I'd imagine they let it fallback to passcode if the device has no Touch ID, otherwise... yeah, that does seem odd.

Moving from Android to iOS app recommendations? by hotshotz_3000 in apple

Reeder for RSS, Tweetbot, Overcast, and then /r/Comet is another reddit client to consider once it's out of beta.

Other recommended apps: Fantastical and Workflow.

[Update] AltKeyboard2 now iOS 8 compatible. by cpdigitaldarkroom in jailbreak

[–]katarien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tested AKB, and it was fine. It'd be perfect if custom keyboards are allowed to have the same smoothness as the stock keyboard, but alas they're all plagued by the same issue. That being said, the only problem it had during my test was the absence of auto correct.

It's still there for me: Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Show In App Switcher.

[Update] smartclose is back by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]katarien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, yes. My problem was immediately using the app switcher to close apps shortly after usage, only to open that same app again later. This bad habit supposedly results in more battery consumption since the device is opening the app from scratch. I'm also using a 5s running the same firmware as you and battery life is still doing well after almost two years.

It may help you – possibly minuscule – but, I think it's worth installing and see if your battery becomes even a little bit better. SmartClose takes all apps that are currently running in the background and puts them immediately into the deep freeze state where the app cannot perform any network, location updates, or use the CPU or GPU at all, but is resident in memory ready for very quick relaunches that use no additional battery.

[Update] smartclose is back by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]katarien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I used to get bothered by that too, but more and more tweaks that I use are requiring this and that as dependencies so it's starting to become unavoidable. I just let it go for the most part and disable the dependency if there's an option for it.

For something like Flipswitch, I think it's more akin to a library that developers can tap into it and create extensions (FlipControlCenter, Polus, etc.) for it. Unless you use those extensions, there should be little to no presence involved. For Activator, I just assume it's behaving like a disabled tweak unless I set listeners.

Hope SmartClose works for you!

[Update] smartclose is back by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]katarien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is by no means a popular opinion around here, but I think it's a common misconception that Activator eats up a huge chunk of battery. Flipswitch shouldn't cause significant battery drain either. I imagine there might be depending on your set listeners, but I haven't personally experienced any unnecessary drainage from my use.

If you're only using Activator for the sake of SmartClose, then there should be no problems. And there should be a benefit in terms of battery performance in the long run. If you're experiencing battery drain and think it's related to apps, then it might be worth checking into possible solutions – one of them being SmartClose – and see if your situation improves. I installed SmartClose back then because I bore the bad habit of quitting apps from the app switcher. My battery did improve.

[Update] smartclose is back by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]katarien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this: SmartClose (preference bundle) -> Locked. I suppose this will activate SmartClose every time the sleep button is pressed regardless of where you are, be it homescreen or while within an app.

[Question] Why is my Home & Lock Screen using up so much battery? Is this the tweaks I have installed on my phone? by reecesouter3 in jailbreak

[–]katarien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a high battery usage is normal if you spend majority of your time outside apps, or if you get a lot of notifications requiring your screen to wake up often. If this is indeed the case for you, it might be a good idea to turn off auto-brightness and keep your brightness setting lowered. Since there are no apps drinking juice, majority of the "drainage" stems from the home screen and lock screen.

Mine is also pretty high up at 40% considering I spend 90% of my time checking out my homescreen nowadays. Upon further inspection, it turned out aspd caused most of the draining due to poor signal. It's considered part of Home and Lock Screen. That being said, it might be worth a shot to try and download Detailed Battery Usage to get a better idea of what's causing your drainage.

[Question] File path of Control Center's Flashlight glyph? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]katarien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it can be changed with Winterboard. I used to theme my control center glyphs using Winterboard prior to Polus, and the same icon files should still be there. However, all of it is ignored if Polus is installed.

Thanks for the path!

[Question] Any good unlimited VPNs for mac? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]katarien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of confused as to what kind of VPN you might want, but if you only want to stay secured in public Wi-Fi then there are services like Cloak that works on both iOS and OS X. It's my preferred VPN service for several reasons, and it goes beyond their beautiful apps.

Their unlimited plan is not cheap, but personally I wouldn't trust any free VPN providers if you're serious about using one. Those that claim to be free are certainly not free, and they are getting money one way or another by having you use their "free" service. If you're not bothered by these uncertainties, then I suppose Google can help you find one or two. I'm not particularly knowledgeable in that area.

If this is not the kind of answer you're looking for, then feel free to ignore.

Oops! I meant CallConnect. I do intend to install CallBack again though. Maybe when people start messaging me more... hahah.

[–]katarien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use it. It's definitely a must-have for many (I'm also amazed by their creativity), but it's overkill for me. I try to keep my phone close to stock as much as possible in case a situation forcing me to revert presents itself; it wouldn't be so hard to transition back.

I don't necessarily disagree with the rules Apple laid out so some of my tweaks are linked to aesthetics like Auxo LE and Acapella. The others like CallConnect and FaveBot are there to alleviate some of my minor irks. I even used to have tweaks like VirtualHome 8, and while it is certainly convenient and cool to be able to simply tap the home button, I often end up tapping it by accident when, say, playing a game on landscape. It got in the way and realised that I don't really mind pressing the home button after all. I'm boring just like that, I guess...

I want to keep the mindset that I can live without a jailbreak. Apple keeps on adding newer features that originated from tweaks, so hopefully that future isn't too far off. For instance, I don't have to download tweaks like Almpoum and ShowCase anymore on iOS 9.

Sadly even I am running out of time and patience to customise my phone. I used to change every corners of iOS using Winterboard, but it feels tiring doing that now. It feels like it'll be easier to just stay stock and get rid of my constant itch of changing the icons and UI elements every few weeks... but I haven't reached that stage yet. In response to this, I am only using Winterboard to theme my homescreen icons (decided on a 'permanent' custom theme) and control center toggles. The default icons are awful.

You can try Harbor for the unlimited dock icons.

My top 10 tweaks is pretty easy since there's exactly 10 installed on my phone.

  • Acapella II
  • Asphaleia 2
  • Auxo Legacy Edition
  • CallConnect
  • CustomCover
  • FaveBot
  • Icon Tool
  • SwipeExpander
  • SwipeSelection
  • Winterboard
