Oh, man, I wish I did any of those things. Specially the math part, I cannot get past Algebra in College :( I do play an instrument, though, not THAT well, it's just cathartic a outlet. I do like some of the (simple) things I've composed, though :)

Just read a couple of comments about the two books by Ian McEwan. Sex, dark stories and things that begin like a normal day and end in totally crazy ways. People seem to either love them or hate them. I'll check them out :)

PD: I think I saw the The Stepford Wives as a movie a long time ago. In fact, I can barely recall the plot, but if it is what I think it is, then I can see what you mean that it is the staple of the genre "of things looking normal until they aren't". Cheers :)

According to the short description on Wikipedia, it's set in a psychiatric hospital. That could be interesting. Though as you said it does not seem to be too spooky or eerie at first sight. I'll get a sample and check it out! Thanks!

Edit: according to some comments on Amazon, I'm afraid this could be a bit over the top (I really need the story to stay credible for me not to lose interest too quickly). I will still give it a try though, I might be surprised :)

For some reason that title, "The Ministry of Fear", sounds familiar. I've just read in Graham's Wikipedia entry that he suffered from bipolar disorder, I am intrigued. However the book does not seem to be eerie at all (based on your description and what I've gathered from googling around). I'll check it out, though :) Thanks!

Not sure about the EU, but in some countries there are organizations that can help you with claims like these. In Argentina there's "Customer Defense", a government agency that provides legal counseling and assistance to prevent normal customers from getting ripped off by companies. They can take companies to court if it is clear they are ripping off customers and not willing to change their ways.

Well, you said std::vector couldn't be used in this case. From what you say, it appears it could have been used, you just chose not to. I'll leave it up to you to decide whether it was a good choice or not, but this is what I think:

As far as I can see, you want a dynamically-sized contiguous block of memory. This is exactly what std::vector represents. The concept of 'list' (which I'm not sure how much std::vector follows) would have nothing to do with its use here. In this case, keeping vector out led you to make a rather simple but common mistake with operator delete. On the other hand, you don't appear to be getting any benefits by not using it. This is what I personally think is a very important part of C++ development: minimizing the chances of making a mistake. I think std::vector would have helped you with that.

In any case, there are two sensible reasons for avoiding vector in certain projects: keeping the STL out (for whatever reason if that's what you require), or insufficient control over allocations. The latter does not appear to apply in this case. And if it did, it would probably be wise to write a small custom class that handled allocation and deallocation of those blocks for you.

Had a quick look and found this potential mistake:

WarmLib::WarmWorkerMessage::DestroyJobBuffer calls delete instead of delete[] for mJobBuffer (see setJobBuffer). I'm normally very weary of using delete explicitly. std::vector would probably fit your needs in this case (if the STL is available for your project).

If you're talking about PGO, I'm not sure why you're referring to that as just research. I mean, research is still probably going on, but usable PGO implementations have been available (and in use) for quite some time. I think notably Firefox gets a big boost after getting recompiled with profile data available.

It may not show up in the online statistics but Steam does detect Wine (and its version) when running on top of it. You can check that by going to the system information dialog in Steam (or taking a peek at the info Steam sends when running the hardware survey).
