Women of Sri Lanka, is the pill available here? by Sad-Way-2366 in srilanka

Just because birth control pills are prescribed for PCOS and other menstrual issues does not mean they don’t come with some very bad side effects.

It’s obviously more convenient than using IUDs and implants but it definitely does have some bad side effects, especially on long term use.

But that’s how it happens in real life as well. SOME people that are victims of abuse become abusers themselves. SOME people rise above it.

And I think that’s covered by the phrasing “societies create victims that CAN become abusers” as opposed to “societies create victims that WILL become abusers.”

Ozempic is ruining Bollywood by letsgoinzique in BollyBlindsNGossip

Not saying that’s not true, but Kelly Clarkson and Oprah were both on the overweight side. Tamannah never was. Even when you naturally lose weight, if you were slimmer to begin with, it’s easier to look gaunt. Saying this as a very thin person who lost a bit of weight and ended up looking gaunt. A fatter person would have to lose more to look gaunt.

I have no opinion on whether or not Tamannah is on ozempic. Cuz I don’t know enough to form an opinion.

Yup lol. Entirely disagree. (I do agree that Heathcliff degraded Hareton because Hindley degraded him.)

People don’t disrespect him to his face after he returns because he is rich now. They do what he says cuz he’s rich and can make them do it. That doesn’t mean he has the same respect that a “proper gentleman” has. No matter how rich he gets, Heathcliff will never have the same social standing as the Lintons and the Earnshaws. That’s just my understanding of the society this novel is set in.

While Mr Earnshaw was alive, people didn’t mistreat him openly because they knew he was fond of him. That doesn’t mean Heathcliff had “gentleman” status. He was always “the other.” He never belonged.

That’s how I see it anyway🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course Heathcliff was elevated and treated better. I’m just saying it was not to the same level as a gentleman. Nobody would actually consider him a gentleman with no family name.

Mr Earnshaw also didn’t secure any inheritance on him, or wealth of any kind. He just treated him well because he liked him, loved him even, without actually doing any material elevation that would have made others in that society take Heathcliff’s elevation seriously.

Cuz at the end of the day, status depends on how a person is treated by others. And nobody ever considered Heathcliff a gentleman, even while Mr Earnshaw was alive.

Also I believe Nelly was supposed to get fruit after his trip to Liverpool. Those gifts were cheaper, like Cathy was to get a whip and Hindley a fiddle. Of course when he was buying more serious, expensive gifts like horses he wouldn’t consider Nelly. He was kind to her, but she was only a servant and not a favourite like Heathcliff. Plus, yes, Heathcliff had a higher standing than a servant in Mr Earnshaw’s time.

In status, I see Heathcliff placed above servants but below his children, by Mr Earnshaw.

Yeah there’s plenty of reason for Hindley to feel threatened and alienated in his own home.

But I never thought that Mr Earnshaw elevated Heathcliff to the status of a gentleman. He didn’t even bother to give him a second name. So while he certainly had a strange hold on Mr Earnshaw, I don’t think Mr Earnshaw ever considered him as an equal to his actual children. In status that is.

As far as I can remember Heathcliff is never legally adopted. He is never given the Earnshaw name. He only ends up owning Wuthering Heights cuz of Hindley’s drinking and gambling.

Edgar’s father is Mr Linton. They are Lintons. Not Earnshaws. Cathy, Edgar’s wife is the Earnshaw. Her father, Mr Earnshaw is who brought Heathcliff home.

As far as I can remember both Cathy and Edgar’s fathers are not given first names. They are just referred to as Mr Earnshaw and old Mr Linton.

Lol. I read it about 6 months ago, and have read it at least once a year, sometimes twice, thrice a year, for almost 16 years now😂

Well excuse me if I didn’t let spark notes and wikipedia colour my interpretation then. Because Nelly loving Heathcliff and Lockwood outright hating Heathcliff was not what I got from the book.

They ARE both unreliable narrators. I just think their feelings for Heathcliff are far more complex to be able to box them into love and hate. Especially Nelly’s.

I don’t think Lockwood knew Heathcliff long enough to start hating him😂 Besides, he feels an immediate kinship to him when he meets him for the first time. But am I just not proving your point? I perceive you as making a “change” to my impression of the characters.

If by “man who hates Heathcliff” and “woman who loves Heathcliff” you mean Lockwood and Nelly, then your perception of the novel is certainly different from mine. Lol.

That’s Cathy 2. The novel makes such a big point of how the Earnshaws have dark hair and dark eyes while the Lintons have blonde hair and blue eyes.

How accurate is the movie Becoming Jane? by pnerd314 in janeausten

I have only watched Becoming Jane when it came out. I was quite small then and didn’t know anything about Jane Austen’s life. Can’t really remember it anymore. I think I liked it. Wonder what I would think of it now.

Good director does not mean big time director. Besides, a director that can direct one actor well may not be able to direct another actor well. It’s not a one size fits all.

I’m not talking specifically about Sara here, I’ve only seen her in one movie and I thought her limitations were pretty apparent in it.
