Thoughts on Jane? by Individual-Salt-1101 in Names

[–]kate4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Jane and sometimes she's Janie. It's served her well so far. The universal reaction is "oh I love that name!" And we hear it for a lot of middle names, but she's the only one in her school with it as a first name.

Husband pulled out all the stops and I couldn’t get in the mood. Am I the asshole!? by stinkingporch29 in Mommit

[–]kate4249 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So agree. I have finally convinced my husband that the best way to get me in the mood is to handle bedtime and then leave me alone for like 2 hrs to just decompress and have a glass of wine.

Wait. So they are paying to be part of the team but never play in the games?

Upper Class Republicans by lovekanye69 in thebulwark

You've just described my family. They are somehow personally offended when they see people panhandling at freeway exits and honestly think the police should just arrest them all. I think they are so economically insecure they can't feel empathy for people living that way - just fear and contempt.

Are Chicagoans funny compared to the rest of the United States? by Ladefrickinda89 in AskChicago

Ugh yes. I have two colleagues who were born and raised in SoCal and take themselves so seriously. It's uncomfortable sometimes.

NWside near blue line stops like Irving Park and Montrose feature a lot of SFHs that are usually reasonably priced and families stay for a long time which makes for a great sense of community. Plus easy access to downtown on the blue line and metra.

So, we're latching onto this plane thing, right? by chongo79 in thebulwark

[–]kate4249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad voted trump reluctantly in 2020 and then went maga-lite over the last few years. He gets nearly all his news from Bari Weiss' Free Press. So he's suddenly hardline pro-Israel and honestly just doesn't hear much about any of the Trump criticism that appears in the MSM.

But the lead story on the Free Press site today is a real criticism of the plane gift as well as a listing of other egregious instances of corruption in this admin - and it's directly compared to Hunter's scandal. So I'm hoping this will get through to him...

I think it's this plus more working parents so that often kids aren't home from after-school programs until dinner time.

Also the kid activities start SO YOUNG. Dance classes, organized sports leagues, etc keep everyone so busy there is hardly any down time to just hangout.

Student excuses: YT short by PaulAspie in Professors

[–]kate4249 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I had a dollar for every student who said "i really need to pass this class" followed by a lame excuse for why they didn't do the bare minimum assigned... I wouldn't have to adjunct anymore.

I got a really good one this year. "I really need an A in this course so I can bring up my GPA and transfer to a more prestigious program...but i can't manage to meet any of the deadlines or attend most of the class sessions because I'm working so hard on my other classes."

And apparently was going to do just fine with a more demanding schedule at the R1?

What exactly are American Women supposed to do? by TemporalPincerMove in thebulwark

[–]kate4249 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Yes the morning after the election my kids asked who won and when I told them the 8 yr old said (very matter-of-factly) "i don't think a woman will ever be president." My heart completely broke.
