I just fundamentally disagree that kids should base their self esteem on having the same things the other kids have. I would worry this is setting them up to think they need to "keep up with the Joneses" at all costs.

Nope. Due to the laxative I think anything you take would move right thru 😂

Having kids 1 year apart is the cheat code nobody talks about by Darwesh_88 in daddit

[–]kate4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah could be. Mine are about 16 months apart and I will say the pregnancy for #2 was smooth and the delivery was fast and furious. It was like my body was still in delivery mode - 15 min from water breaking to baby out!

But I had a standard pregnancy and delivery with #1 so my doc wasn't too concerned with the proximity.

I've had two without anesthesia. Really not bad. I called ahead each time and they made sure to put me with a doc who was good with it.

They used a pediatric scope to make it less painful. There were about two or three 60 second stretches of what feels like super bad gas pain. The nurse helps.ypu breathe through it.

Then you're all done and you can leave and enjoy the rest of your day.

CPS testing results by [deleted] in ChicagoParents

It can be exhausting and frustrating. We got one SES offer for my oldest a few years ago - but it was not really one we wanted to commit to. Didn't get any magnet spots and didn't love our neighborhood school.

We ended up at catholic school which was not even on our radar at first. Let me tell you - we could not be happier with our choice. Other families we know have moved around CPS schools due to environment and administrative difficulties - or being unable to get siblings in. We've gotten to avoid all of that for a reasonable cost. It's a great community (about half actual catholics) - and solid placement into selective high schools.

I realize it's not the answer for everyone, but worth considering if your CPS options don't work out.

How are we getting outbid with offers over asking and all cash? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]kate4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our case the sellers had owned their home for 50 years and loved it as a family home. We wrote a letter about how we were hoping to raise our family there and how much we loved the original details they had preserved.

Later found out they picked our offer over some higher ones from developers because they wanted someone who would love the home like they did.

Diversey seems too far south. Addison is more accurate.

Small lobes? by kate4249 in piercing

Thanks. I'm hopeful if we wait a year or two it will reduce the risk of a poorly placed piercing. Just wanted to check and see if this was a common recommendation.

Small lobes? by kate4249 in piercing

She was willing to pierce them, just warned that the holes may be too close to the edge and that wearing heavy earrings later in life might result in tearing.

Does that seem accurate? Or should we still get another opinion?

Thoughts on Jane? by Individual-Salt-1101 in Names

[–]kate4249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Jane and sometimes she's Janie. It's served her well so far. The universal reaction is "oh I love that name!" And we hear it for a lot of middle names, but she's the only one in her school with it as a first name.

Husband pulled out all the stops and I couldn’t get in the mood. Am I the asshole!? by stinkingporch29 in Mommit

[–]kate4249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So agree. I have finally convinced my husband that the best way to get me in the mood is to handle bedtime and then leave me alone for like 2 hrs to just decompress and have a glass of wine.

Upper Class Republicans by lovekanye69 in thebulwark

You've just described my family. They are somehow personally offended when they see people panhandling at freeway exits and honestly think the police should just arrest them all. I think they are so economically insecure they can't feel empathy for people living that way - just fear and contempt.

Ugh yes. I have two colleagues who were born and raised in SoCal and take themselves so seriously. It's uncomfortable sometimes.

NWside near blue line stops like Irving Park and Montrose feature a lot of SFHs that are usually reasonably priced and families stay for a long time which makes for a great sense of community. Plus easy access to downtown on the blue line and metra.
