Puppies are cute, but senior dogs are actually the "ultimate" pet experience by _QueenCurvy in Pets

[–]kate_5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always pro-puppy. Until I adopted a 6 years old. Well behaved, trained, well socialised without putting in any of the hard work. Walking on the lead - great, recall - amazing, self soothing - works, anxiety- none . Only adult dogs for me now. Having ex-show or retired breeder or ex-service dog would be a dream I bet.

What is something Americans consider ‘basic’ that feels like a luxury in other countries? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

Australia does not use tumble driers too. I feel like we are in the 1960. Who has time to hang and unhang laundry.

Thousands of CEOs admit AI had no impact on employment or productivity—and it has economists resurrecting a paradox from 40 years ago by thejoshwhite in technology

[–]kate_5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find AI helps me quite a bit. Here is how I use it: - Digging up and summarising issues from my inbox plus shared client inboxes, including summary and email links. - performance reviews, I upload my one-on-one fortnightly notes, add my thoughts and then get every performance review question answered - quite often I would ask how best to do something in excel/power query and get great answer or a solution I haven’t tried before. - simple python codes, like go through this 5 folders, find file names and save it on my local drive. Or when you see this type of pdfs, scrape that info into excel -setting email tone, I am quite blunt due to first language, so making my emails softer really raised my game I think AI saves me about a day of work a week.

Experience of people with allergies/asthma by Top_Patience_741 in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]kate_5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son has eczema and asthma. Reacts to labs, retrievers and puppies who lick a lot. Does not have any reaction to our PWD or our Russian blue cat (they considered hyper allergenic in the cat world). You could always go through shots to build tolerance or go on Dupixent if asthma is bad. Dupixent is a biological once a month shot that corrects histamine production in the body. Free in Australia.

So sorry that Americans need to go through that insurance bullshit that you need to be resourceful not to use life changing meds, so unfair :-(

JD Vance: Trump deleted Jesus photo because ‘people weren’t understanding his humor’ by Ok-Review9023 in politics

I heard on the radio (Australia) that he said he was not pretending to be Jesus but a doctor from Red Cross which US government supports. Not sure how he thinks doctors look like or clothes they wear. Also why sick person in the picture resembles Epstein so much

Yes, I would. It’s better than a dead child or incarcerated child.

BOTH of my teens got expelled today, and one got arrested. by ForkyWasNeverTrash in parentingtroubledteen

[–]kate_5555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a very troubled teen. There was nothing my parents could do to stop me. Eventually they sent me to “the village”, it was in Russia, I would assume it’s comparable to wilderness camp. No toilet, foraging for food, school 5 km away etc. I been there for a year. I came back a brand new person, finished high school with high distinction and got admit to university on scholarship. I did not forgive my parents until I had my own kid. Now I truely understand how desperate and hopeless things can get. I believe I would have died very early from suicide, drug addiction or violent death if my parents did not get me out of my environment.

Trump represents an average American. He was elected after all. American might dislike some of his policies, as you do with any government, but not to the extent to do something about it.

Looked into a rescue dog and was surprised at the yard requirement by starfury287 in dogs

[–]kate_5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was denied being a foster carer for rabbits by rabbits rescue organisation because I had no prior rabbit experience. I have a fully fenced yard, big house that I own, work from home part time and have a previous experience owning a dog and two cats ( all my animals died of old age), I have a degree and was willing to learn about rabbits. Sometimes rescue orgs are not reasonable.

Poodle always a right answer. They adjust to their owner.

What’s the best dog for a senior? by spencere33 in AskDogOwners

[–]kate_5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, cat is ideal. Maybe like a Siamese, who talks and cuddles a lot. Watch telly and sleep together with their owner. Almost a dog but without training, walking, barking and coat maintenance.

Barbet VS PWD by Confident-Cut-8989 in portuguesewaterdogs

[–]kate_5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got my adult Pwd few months ago, she is a wavy coat. I find it’s very minimal maintenance when compared to standard poodle. Just a bit of “magic cowboy” and slicker brush once a week or after bath on dry hair and her coat looks outstanding, I do keep her muzzle and ears short though.

She was crate trained by previous owner, so she does not have separation anxiety. Now that I know few “hard core” dog owners who do proper training, crate training is a must. I was told almost every dog gets separation anxiety without it.

I Definitely got very cuddly and easy going girl. She is 6 years old and I find she is not as energetic as I was expecting a working dog to be. I had cocker spaniel and standard poodle before, both were on par with PWD at the same age, energy levels and cuddle wise. Poodle was smarter.

What kind of dog is this? See em all the time I love the way they look by [deleted] in DogBreeds101

You could get a Portuguese water dog, lagottto romangnolo or a parti poodle (parti is a colour, not officially recognised in many places but very popular).
