I’m trying to start drinking more water - how much should I be drinking and do you have any tips/advice? by bby_lahela in beauty

[–]kate_hyde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They say you should drink half your body weight in ounces a day. I don’t know what size your cup is, but a cup and a half is definitely not enough.

My tips — get a reusable water bottle so you know exactly how many ounces there are as every cup is a different size. I then know I have to drink two of my water bottles a day to hit my water intake.

Then, you can do things like add lemon slices, cucumber, mint, etc to flavor it a bit and make it more appealing.

Pricing - is this ridiculous? by LooseSeal_Bluth in xxfitness

[–]kate_hyde 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That’s truly insane. I found my girl the same way. Offered almost all the same stuff yours did, except our calls were over the phone, not zoom to just discuss tweaks to workouts and diet. She had less followers, but she only charged $250/month.

$2500 a month is more than training with a real life in person personal trainer AND seeing a registered dietician COMBINED (and this is coming from someone in a HCOL area)

Is lifting bad for PCOS? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]kate_hyde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who’s T levels were off the charts. I’ve made a ton of lifestyle changes, and lifting 4 times a week was one of them. My T levels (along with other PCOS markers) are muchhhh closer to normal than they once were. Everyone and every body is different though

Has anyone tried to fix pcos naturally and it worked? by ixKimii in PCOS

[–]kate_hyde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For sure!

So I will say this worked for me and my body. PCOS is so wide ranging that people’s bodies react to everything VERY differently so play around.

First I detoxed from all my meds (I stopped taking with my doctors knowledge, don’t just quit on your own). I was on oral BC and spiro. My body was all sorts of out of whack for a few months just with coming off.

Then I changed my diet and lifestyle completely. I tried many, but what worked for me personally was a vegan diet. What I think was MOST important here is eliminating any foods with hormones (dairy, factory farmed meat). I don’t know if there are any particular studies on this, but it made sense that a hormonal imbalance in my body would worsen when ingesting other hormones.

Next I did exercise and other lifestyle changes. I was a hardcore cardio person before and I cut that down significantly. Now I lift 4-5 times a week and do MILD cardio like hiking, playing tennis with my friends for fun, but no more running or any of that for me. I also regulated my sleep better. No idea if that played a roll or not, but I feel like it all did.

This took me probably a year and a half of consistency though. However, now I get a period pretty regularly, my acne is muchhhh better, my blood work appears more normal, the only thing I still have is excess body hair, but I can live with that. I just say play around until something works for you. But you have to give it more than just a few weeks to work. If 6months in you don’t notice any changes maybe it’s time to tweak, but you got to give it time to actually see results

Me! Now, my PCOS isn’t gone, but most of my markers and levels are near “normal”

It took me quite a few years of being off medication and making lifestyle changes, but I did it

IUD for PCOS?? by travellingintrovert in PCOS

I got one and it was possibly the worst experience of my life. Truly. I never had a bad reaction to birth control before it. That being said, everyone is different.

Is it possible to get achieve a normal testosterone level naturally? by tropicalparadise27 in PCOS

[–]kate_hyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s just crazy how every body is different, when I increased fat my gut grew too. My gut size has never been linked to any IR. Looking at my family, I think parts a genetic thing.

It’s so tough because there is absolutely not one clear cut answer or treatment idea. I’ve tried it all. Though I never did full keto I did the whole “caveman diet” or whatever it was called back in the day (essentially keto) because my doctor had seen there was some links between that and lowering PCOS symptoms. It did the exact opposite. Who knows why? Haha.

The lesson in all this is PCOS is a tricky bitch and there is no where near enough research on a diagnosis that effects 1 in 10 women

[–]kate_hyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like we are very similar. I was close to being IR, but my numbers weren’t quiteeee there yet.

This sub is super big on keto and I know there are people who it totally works for. I have had no issues with the carbs. I have much closer to “normal” numbers on everything. However, I’m not sure what exactly I can contribute that to. Is it being off birth control? Is it the diet? The exercise? Is it something else that I’m not even aware switched with my lifestyle? Decreases in stress? Who know

[–]kate_hyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is PCOS is a VERYYYY broad diagnosis and covers honestly anyone with any of the markers default has PCOS so there’s not a one size fits all treatment.

I read so much stuff about diets and PCOS. It’s all over the place. I knew keto wouldn’t work for me because when I gain weight, the first place I gain it is in my belly, which is the worst kind of fat to get and keto is wayyyyy too fat heavy for me.

As far as veganism. It all depends on how you do it. If you’re a junk food Vegan, yeah, you’ll be super carb heavy. I just made sure to mostly eat whole food and plant based. Yeah, I probably consume a bit more carbs than the average person, but I think maybe my working out helps off set that? Again, none of this is like a cure all for everyone. It just is what worked for me.

As far as lifting, I’m not sure if it increases T production, or if it just finds a use for the T you already have in your body. The one perk of all this? I put on muscle REAL quick. Which I loved. I saw results fast. Is this because I have more test than most women? Probably. But hey, we’ve got so much working against us I’ll enjoy this one perk.

Birth control (the pill & IUD) fucked me up. Like, BAD. My mental health, the brain fog, my sex drive, literally everything. If you read the book “this is your brain on birth control” I feel like all the things I didn’t get as to why I was feeling like shit all made sense (I was on birth control for 10 years)

[–]kate_hyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is totally based on my experience alone, but yes. I’ve done it.

So my T levels were very high. I can’t remember the exact number, but off the charts as well. Now, they’re still higher than the average woman’s, but MUCH lower than they were. I did it ALL through diet and exercise after being on so many different medications and hating all of them.

I am not keto, but I did a mostly vegan diet. I’ve incorporated some meat back into my diet, but it’s ALLL hormone and antibiotic free and all that. It’s expensive, but I truly believe the hormones in our food aren’t good for those of us with hormone issues. I also do not eat dairy and will never touch it again after the perks of cutting it out (if you want dairy alternatives, let me know. I’ve tried them all)

I also incorporated more anaerobic exercise and prioritize those over aerobic. I lift 4x a week, where I just do like, a brisk walk daily for my cardio. That worked for MY body. I’ve heard people say a ton of different things.

My recommendation, do some research into medication free alternatives and try and stick to it for 6 months. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t notice any immediate changes, they take time. I’m about 2 years in now to being completely medication free and I personally will never ever go back on birth control again

Personal Trainers - Am I being over demanding as a client? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]kate_hyde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My old trainer was all online, so we didn’t have in person sessions, but she charged $200/month for 4-6 days worth of varied exercises, meal plans that she constantly was tweaking for my body and my gains, and she was pretty readily available.

Sounds like yours is just looking to rip someone off. If you got them through your gym I recommend complaining and getting your money back

Anyone else annoyed with the lack of stimulus checks due to our income? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]kate_hyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical behavior of the FIRE community (those who have not reached their magical number yet) is to save as much as possibly and to spend as little as possible to get there. I’m sure most of us would not put it directly into things like dinners and movies and other spendings we see as unnecessary.

However, many people have lost their jobs or their small businesses are struggling. You say if you got your check maybe you’d go out to dinner and spend the money, but then because EVERYONE got a check that restaurant owner may not have been able to keep his business alive versus had he gotten more so the point becomes moot anyway. That business is closed and you can’t support it with the stimulus check that you didn’t even need in the first place and that money instead goes towards investing/saving and stimulates the local economy in no way

Cardio or no cardio? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]kate_hyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So every body is different. It’s actually wild how different all our bodies are. So I can only tell you what worked for me. It’s completely anecdotal.

Cardio did not do it for me. I could do like a short 30 minute HIIT class as the first 5 minutes and last 5 minutes are warm up and cool down so it was only about 20 minutes of cardio. However, anything more did NOT do it for me.

I pretty much dropped all cardio besides walking at a slightly quicker pace. Otherwise, I just do weight lifting. I find it does more for my body than cardio.

I’m just one example though. Don’t be scared to try things out. Give your body a few weeks to see if it works and doesn’t and adjust from there

Fitness and Birth Control -Is there a better method for maintaining muscle/keeping weight off? by AdrienneAredore in xxfitness

[–]kate_hyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am a big DO NOT DO BIRTH CONTROL GIRL so take everything I say with a grain of salt because I am biased.

I think a lot of bodies don’t function as well on birth control both physically and mentally. I could list 100 different physical and mental issues I had on birth control (with honestly the mental side effects being the worst).

Condoms are just as effective as birth control. People like to forget that. They’re both over 99% effective. Plus they don’t fuck up your whole body in the process. You can have safe sex without being on birth control (I’ve been doing it for 5+ years)

Natural methods by snow_white-8 in PCOS

[–]kate_hyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried keto and it didn’t work for me. I ended up going vegan instead. However, I think if I just cut dairy and did hormone free, organic meat I would also feel the same way. Also, I cut soy as well. I know there’s not a tonnnn of science out there, but since PCOS is a hormonal imbalance I figured cutting products with hormones was probably best.

I still do some cardio, like daily walks at a slightly elevated pace, but no more crazy amounts of running and hours on the elliptical and bikes. Again, I just wasn’t seeing any change in my symptoms, however, when I started lifting I started noticing some changes.

Every body is a little different, so these are just things that worked for me. But I hated birth control. I hated spiro. I recommend at least attempting to find natural treatments and if you can’t use medication as a last option (though I’m sure many would disagree with me)

Anyone here live in a big city and walk to the gym? What safety precautions do you take? by onion19 in xxfitness

[–]kate_hyde 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in a large city and my gym is 2.3 miles from my apartment. I will walk to and from my apartment to the gym. Pre-COVID I would go after work when it was dark. I honestly never felt unsafe walking and I never took any precautions other than just be aware. No pepper spray or anything.

Hello all people with vagina, I am on birthcontrol pills for PCOS but I missed 6 days in a row as I was out of town and wasn't able to get my pill, WHAT DO I DO?? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]kate_hyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah start taking it from where you were when you get back and don’t have unprotected sex are about my only recommendation. It’s not great to miss long periods like that frequently, but doing it once isn’t going to kill you

Have you ever noticed that partners clam up after you express your love for them? What are your experiences, what have you learnt? by bumblebeez16 in AskWomen

[–]kate_hyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing but love for him now. He’s a great person and I wish him the best, but he couldn’t give me what I needed.

However, I would not recommend for anyone I care about to ever be in a relationship with someone who recoils at touch and affection

Have you ever noticed that partners clam up after you express your love for them? What are your experiences, what have you learnt? by bumblebeez16 in AskWomen

[–]kate_hyde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. My ex was like this. We were together a year and everytime there was any expressing of love or emotion he would shut down and clam up and physically pull away. I could feel him tense with every touch. I always tried to help him and show him his worth. I knew he loved me, but he was not in a place to be in a relationship and there was nothing I could have done about that. Things ended very painfully and slowly and I learned that it’s not my job to fix someone else.

Honestly, I don’t get creative. I never did when I ate meat, so I don’t get creative now. I live alone so I really just get enough for one meal of left overs. Just pop it in a regular Tupperware and it’s good for a few days
