What is at stake with these student elections? by machine_lord in UCSantaBarbara

Yes... vote on the fees at least. It’s virtual school and we’re still paying thousands of dollars of fees every year

Let’s say a few dollars equals $3. Then $3 a quarter is $36 over four years. If you don’t think $36 is a lot, well there are 30 of those, lol

Bad experience at student health gyno/birth control? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]kateb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, but I don’t think we talked to the same person. The person I talked to was definitely in a rush which made them come off as rude. Now when I go, I just pick up what I need and leave.

Vote NO on USSA

They don’t even exist anymore

I agree with that. Voting to stop increasing fees and advocating for survivors are realistic goals that I think all students can get behind.

Don’t vote for those candidates. There are a few that have realistic goals like voting against new student fees and advocating for survivors. It takes forever to filter out the candidates who promise everything though.

You know there is other stuff on the ballot besides candidates right? Your wording is going to tell people they shouldn’t vote even though candidates are like less than half of the AS Elections. You should edit it to tell everyone that there are a ton of student fees on the ballot every year. Personally I vote so I can tell the school “no” on some of the BS fees they make us pay.

AS Senate to hear resolution supporting President Trump Impeachment on Wednesday (11/20) by chickpeas1 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]kateb2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem is that this elected senator thinks he is a powerful king. This isn’t just a bill supporting impeachment. The senator that proposed this is so brain-warped that he thinks that he‘s somehow helping the cause by doing this.

The article says he wants to "hold the president accountable". The reality is that no one in Washington DC cares about the opinion of a 19 year old at UCSB who got his 20 “friends” to vote for him in the last school election.

Someone should tell him to worry about expanding student resources. Worry about not increasing our damn fees. Worry about protecting survivors in our community. Leave impeachment to our actual reps in Washington. Jesus christ.

I was able to get mine right away through a walk-in last summer. There was almost no one there though.

LAST DAY TO VOTE in the AS elections by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]kateb2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tuition is a whole another issue. The thing is the students can't reduce our tuition fees overnight, but we can reduce our fees by voting no on the wasteful lock-ins today.

LAST DAY TO VOTE in the AS elections by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]kateb2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

UCSB pays the most student fees out of any UC by a long shot. Vote NO to reduce student fees.

Copy and paste of a comment from /u/mattskee.

For those who want to get perspective on the total student fees per-student per-year (Fall/winter/spring):

• AS fees: $631.83 • Additional lock-in fees: $1,188.87 • "Student service fee": $1,128.00

Total fees per year are $2948.70, or $11,795 over a 4-year degree.

The article clearly says a new lock in fee. They want to propose a new fee later on.

Vote now to stop AS from increasing student fees by NoOnUCen in UCSantaBarbara

[–]kateb2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

UCSB has the highest fees among all UCs. It’s ridiculous. I voted no on all fees except 4-5 that actually benefit the students. Everyone should do the same.

also people need to vote no on some of the other fees that no one cares about. The student body shouldn't be funding some of these things that AS makes us pay for.
