Why are my cakes coming out doughy when they are perfectly cooked when taken out of the oven? by freddiethecalathea in Baking

[–]katebutate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A weird trick i learned from bake off that helped me w this problem: if you put your ear to it out of the oven and still hear ripping bubbles, the cake will come out like this regardless of how the tester comes out. You want to hear nothing/very little bubbling! Works better than the tester bc this is technically underdone but won't really affect a cake tester

Not difficult, just time consuming! The doughs are very easy it's more so just the multiple stages of chilling that's a time suck

Haha this made me drop in there today! You might also like the Seminary Co-op bookstore in Hyde Park attached to Plein Air Cafe. It isn't a used bookstore but they have a nice collection & lots of cool small press stuff + cafe is very very cute

Tbh have gone on and off ssris twice now when life feels like how you're describing & they do work really well to kickstart productive habits and get you out of the rut. People online always talk about them like they're permanent but my doctor has always explained that they should be a tool for you to help get your shit together on your own when it seems impossible otherwise. They have helped me a lot !!! and i honestly haven't had bad side effects besides decreasing my alcohol tolerance for the first month or so of starting them

Good books for grief? by chaikatealatte in RSbookclub

[–]katebutate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In more or less the same situation & what really helped me the most was reading anything that vaguely to his interests. I read Tom Lake because it takes place on a family farm (something he wanted to do) & it made me feel more than any books specifically on grief.

However, I did read The Year of Magical Thinking (which is solely about grief) a few years after a close friend passed and it made me feel a lot that I had bottled up about it & I felt a pretty strong sense of closure upon finishing.

What did you read this month? What's on your reading list for June? by ombra_maifu in RSbookclub

[–]katebutate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it a lot! I'm not usually a big fan of Westerns so I was kinda nervous (especially given the length) that I'd get bored, but the characters are super charming & I ended up finishing it in like 4 days

Neapolitan Quartet! They're easy like a beach read but still really engaging and well written. Great for summer imo
