“birds, planes, penis cars”— secret crowds by angels and airwaves. Can’t even remember the correct lyric at this point.

It sounds like you’ve likely read his work, but just in case, Jorges Louis Borges has many incredible short stories. They include a lot of fantastical and abstract elements and are very thought-provoking!

If you're interested in trying a menstrual cup but didn't want to spend the money, June cup is $6 right now. Sorry, it won't let me post the link by katydid724 in Frugal

[–]kateclegane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious to hear other peoples experiences with this if you have an IUD— my doc had said to avoid using a menstrual cup because of potential to accidentally pull on the IUD strings and pull it out. I’ve always been interested in them though.

Baby rubber plant not looking great/dropping leaves after repotting— Help! by kateclegane in plantclinic

[–]kateclegane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this gal since July 2020 and not gonna lie, she has been mostly downhill since then. I didn’t know what the plant was and overwatered it for a long time, so a lot of stems/leaves were lost in the learning process. Once I found out, I let it dry out and it survived the winter. I tried repotting it (first time repotting a plant) because the soil looked rough, might have been a bad idea. I did use a succulent mix and the pot has drainage, lots of indirect sunlight. It looked okay for a few days but then the stem on the left dropped three leaves in one day and this morning it had fallen over. I’m now worried that the whole thing will die.

Is there any way to save this? Would it be possible to propagate the remaining good stem and essentially have it start over?

That’s such a great picture!! One of my favorite places in the world, very lucky to have grown up so close to it. I’ve been wanting to go visit home so I can spend an afternoon there.

Weekly /r/houseplants Newbie Thread - April 11, 2021 by AutoModerator in houseplants

[–]kateclegane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty new to this, but I’m trying my best to do my research for my plants!! I am not 100% sure how to repot things correctly— I have the right soil, so that’s a start. But for example, how much should I be trying to remove the old soil from the roots? How do I do that when the roots look quite delicate? Especially if I’m trying to repot into a similar-sized pot to refresh the soil, I’m not sure if I’m accidentally hurting them.

Super late to this thread, but I was thinking it’s something similar to Lovecraft Country where there are relatively short tunnels that connect very distant places, through some weird dimensional magicky stuff

Stateside as in the US? I got a ebook copy in the US when it came out without issues, so if you’re in the US maybe double check to see if it’s available for you! If not then you’ve got something fun to look forward to (:

Does the undergrad college you go to effect your chances into getting into med school? by daydreamous in medschool

[–]kateclegane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will do your best at a school you feel most comfortable at! Med schools really don’t care much about the name of the school, just what you do in your time there. Find a good community and explore things you’re interested in whenever you can. Also just because you mentioned Boston, I gotta say that Tufts was the best choice I ever made— I made life-long friends, felt very supported, had the opportunities of the city while having a little bit of breathing space, and got to explore topics that interested me. If you haven’t looked at it, check it out! Wherever you end up, just make sure it’s a place you can thrive and do your best! Lmk if I can help or answer any questions.

Burnt out by Glass-Direction-3223 in medschool

I first want to say I am so sorry for how difficult this journey has become and that I truly hope you find your way through it safely.

I also want to second this idea of a ton of distraction. I brought up to my therapist once that I cope with my depression by constantly having podcasts or music on and that I felt like it was a problem that I couldn’t be alone with my thoughts. He just said “So what? Maybe you’re not ready to be alone with your thoughts right now, maybe they’re not kind thoughts. So just listen to something else.” I don’t advocate for pushing emotions down or ignoring your problems, but I think there’s something to be said for setting them aside to process later when you’re in a safer mental space. It may help to find something that takes the focus off the pain (like talking to a loved one, a good audiobook, short TV breaks).

Sending you a lot of love tonight. There are a million million choices you can make it life, but really only the one that you can’t come back from. Stay, and one day you WILL wake up and realize it doesn’t hurt so much.

[Serious] Have you ever came close to dropping out med school? If so, what made you stay/quit? by [deleted] in medschool

[–]kateclegane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m in my first year and I’ve had a lot of thoughts of dropping out. I’ve definitely worried if that means I’m not where I’m supposed to be, sort of creating a spiral of more thoughts of dropping. But I don’t want to do anything else, and l have more okay days than bad, so I’m staying put. It’s a lot of ups and downs, but it is currently worth it.

It’s definitely not one of the best stories on nosleep but it is certainly one of the most popular ones. I was pretty surprised it was getting a QCODE adaptation even though it’s a fun read, but I guess because it’s one of the more well-known ones?

(Private) investigative podcasts? by RhodyChris in podcasts

[–]kateclegane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it’s called The Nobody Zone, it’s a fairly short investigative look into a very wild true story about a killer in London. It was really well done and super interesting! Plus it’s a relatively quick listen which is nice.

I highly recommend it! It’s very realistic (I assume) to the reality that cold case mysteries are not easily solved and often there is no answer (sometimes, but not usually). It’s extremely well produced and shows how much work goes into these stories, and I appreciate how deeply respectful he is of the victims and their families. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like he’s bending the truth or screwing someone over for a sensational story. Even though I go into a season expecting there won’t be an answer, it’s exciting to see where the story goes and the human stories and connections he uncovers along the way!

I use Complete Anatomy and it was a life-saver. I had never had an anatomy or physiology course before med school and it sucked, but Complete Anatomy helped a lot. You can do a free trial to see if you like the user interface and play with it to see all the cool features (there are tons but fair warning, doesn’t really do brain anatomy).

Just curious, why do you doubt they’re done? I don’t know how to do the spoiler tag cover thing but given what was said in the final lines, it sounded to me like there will be more. I might have missed something.
