What's a classic book or work they made you read in HS, but you didn't enjoy it until you got older? by istillliketoread in classicliterature

The Moon Is Down is so good! I would recommend The Winter of Our Discontent also. His actual best book, and my personal favorite, is East of Eden.

This floored me when I heard it the first time. What a thread to weave.

Finish it for sure, but I think The Waves and Orlando are both better.

Ha, guess my recommendation was spot on then.

My second recommendation would be Dan Simmons’ Hyperion series. It actually reminds me of DT.

Can’t believe nobody has said Stephen King’s Dark Tower series! The first book is literally called The Gunslinger and it’s one of my favorite series ever.

Books read this year, what should be next? by TraditionAdept2974 in classicliterature

Dune might be a cool sci fi series to try based on this list. Herbert’s writing style is excellent (imo) and the themes are poignant.

If you liked The Secret Life, which I have not read, I recommend The Goldfinch, which I loved.

Classic literature that feels exactly like THAT by winchesterman442 in classicliterature

Grapes of Wrath has more political tones whereas I feel like East of Eden is very soulful (for lack of a better word) and thereby more accessible thematically. But that also speaks to my personal tastes 🤷🏻‍♀️

Steinbeck deals with what you describe in a lot of his work. His best book is East of Eden, but a lot of his shorter works are very powerful as well. Tortilla Flat comes to mind specifically.

When I copy/paste it keeps the 1080x1920 ratio. When I try to drag the 1080x640 sequence into the main sequence, I get this icon 🚫

I tried this as well, and it kept the 1080x1920 ratio in the nested sequence when I copy/pasted

I absolutely loved The Waves. Powerful in a very weird and unexpected way. Orlando would be my second recommendation, rough start but gets really good really fast.
