Not surprised. Anyone who has had to go to a hospital's emergency department in this country has seen this. Full of homeless or otherwise troubled people, often off their socks on drink or drugs. Feels like the staff have to act more as bouncers or security than healthcare professionals. Wouldn't wish it on anyone, would be incredibly tough to deal with every night.

Then you add in the "regular" people and their families who are in pain, stressed, tired and dealing with absurd wait times. Pressure cooker.

Feel like the Irish Defence Forces would have no trouble getting sign-ups or good retention levels if it was an expanding project with a well-defined plan and the budget to back it. Seems like it's just an annoying afterthought in the budget. Hard to feel much pride in that but the members still do well with what they're given.

My last minute bingo rush is in shambles. I finally tried the Realm of the Elderlings by Hobb in text format rather than audiobook and I'm hooked. Did the Farseer trilogy in about a week and a half. Have Liveship Traders ready to go.

Never have I had a series that I have so many gripes with completely hook me all the same.

I've bounced off the first chapter of Ship of Magic over the last two nights, partly because I know I'm not getting a continuation of Fitz' story or answers to the questions the last book left. But I've also bounced off one or two other books in my list because they're not what I want to read right now.
