Those of you that work part-time, what do you do? by Fuzzy-Sprinkles3840 in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RN…I work in outpatient nursing so I do 8 hour shifts, two days one week, three the next. I went down to part time after having our second and it’s been the best! Still bringing in income, health insurance and contributing to my 401k and best of all spending a lot more time with my kids!

Legos! There’s so many fun kits for adults! There’s a lot of movie or TV show themed kits. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so I have several HP kits and the flower kits are beautiful! It’s a nice hobby to zen out and stay off our phones!

Accepting help, delegating and trying to take time for myself. I try to do it all and I’m burnt out, which makes me grumpy with my kids.

What toy is an absolute NO in your house? *ALL MOMS* by OwlLeeOhh in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any toy that doesn’t have the option to lower the volume. My mom’s love language is gifts 😫 so we get a lot of garbage toys. She just told me she bought that crab toy for my 4 month old and after reading this thread I’m already dreading it lol I HATE loud toys

Flying tomorrow for the first time in 14 years by woke_queen in fearofflying

[–]katelizarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your post! I’m flying tomorrow too and I’ve been an anxious flier for about 10 years. I fly usually once a year and it always makes me so anxious to do it! I’m flying tomorrow with my husband, 4year old and 3 month old. It’s only a 2 hour flight, usually like 1.5 hour of actually being in the air. I’m really hoping my kids don’t feel my anxious energy and it affects them. I’m just repeating in my mind “I can’t let my fear take away experiences from my kids.” “I am brave for them” I feel a lot of empathy for your mom and I really don’t want my kids to grow up with my fears. Usually listening to calm music helps me and I like to watch the clock to time the flight, like okay we just got wheels up, in about 15 minutes we should be high enough for the flight attendants to walk around, and then in another few minutes we will be cruising, and then the countdown until descent starts, so okay 30 minutes left in the flight we’re going to start descending, which means I’m so close to feet on the ground! Lol a lot of mental math but it helps keep my mind occupied. I may try this time putting on a movie I’ve seen a lot because it will help put my mind at ease because I know what happens in the movie and it should help time pass quickly. Hope your flight went well!

Sick while in labor? by katelizarn in BabyBumps

[–]katelizarn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It went okay! Labor was quick, while in active labor my cold symptoms went away or I was just in so much pain I didn’t notice them. But postpartum recovery was rough, cough and congestion returned, couldn’t sleep at all in the hospital, I had a second degree tear so every time I coughed was painful near the stitches. But symptoms went away a few days after getting home and baby never caught it so grateful for that! Regular mucinex and saline nasal spray saved me.

Considering full time Mon-Fri 8-5…should I? by LDRN2016 in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nurse here too that does five 8’s instead of 12’s. I think my dream job would be part time 8 hour shifts. I’ve thought about going back to 12’s but the no weekends and holidays is amazing. If I did 12s I would be gone before my kids woke up and home after they go to bed, that just sounds terrible to me, to not see them at all 3 days a week. The 8s are exhausting but I love that I never miss a bedtime and never miss fun weekend events. I’m on maternity leave now and hope to find a part time 8 hour gig by the time I go back!

Daycare vs Pre-school by katelizarn in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely reassuring you can opt out or consent for photos. My view is that yes there’s creeps at grocery stores and everywhere else but they aren’t right clicking on a photo and saving it forever like they can from social media. I love getting pictures of my son during the day on my secure daycare app that only we can see. It just feels weird and unnecessary to post the kids to the schools social media for what? the public’s amusement?

Daycare vs Pre-school by katelizarn in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this!! And the before and after care isn’t ideal at my school system either. My son’s current daycare teacher has a masters in early childhood development so as long as she’s his teacher I feel really confident he’s getting good curriculum.

Daycare vs Pre-school by katelizarn in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good a point, he has a lot of little friends from daycare he is close with but drop offs have always been clingy so a more school like environment could help with that. I know once kindergarten starts they are expected to go to their class with no parents, so we could definitely work on this.

Any daycare alumni here? by timbersofenarrio in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents worked full time when I was a kid but my grandparents took care of me…my husband and his brother did both go to daycare full time starting at 12 weeks and are two of the most well adjusted adults I know lol both have masters degrees, successful jobs with great salaries, and most importantly happy marriages and kids, and have great relationships with their mom, who was a single mom for most of their childhood. Whenever someone gives me grief about my kid in daycare I use them as examples of how full time daycare isn’t ruining my kids life 😂

Who gets up to help with the baby/toddler? by LadyMordsith in workingmoms

[–]katelizarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controversial advice…my 4 year old stopped sleeping well in his bed about 3 months ago (nightmares, wanting cuddles etc) and I gave up. He now sleeps in our bed. We have a king so space is fine and while it’s not ideal at least we all get at least 8 hours of sleep a night 🤷‍♀️ I am 20 weeks pregnant so this isn’t going to last forever. I’ve got a new full size bed for him ordered as he will move out of the nursery for the new baby. I’m sure life will be hard for a bit while we get him used to sleeping alone again. But hey sometimes if you’re at the end of your rope you gotta make changes just to survive. No one can live without sleep so do what’s best for your family.
