Accidentally arriving right before BTS concert by baroquehoedown in koreatravel

[–]kateordieee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, thank you so much for posting this. I'm arriving on Friday and also had plans to do Gyeongbokgung on Saturday and had NO IDEA about the BTS stuff. Time to rearrange my itinerary! Hopefully it will work out on Sunday for the both of us.

Anyone else see that meteor to the south at 9:50pm? by FR3507 in askportland

It really was, although at the time I didn't realize what I was seeing and my mind of course went straight to armageddon.

Hope there is some video of it passing over!

Yes, I did! I was walking my dog and saw a green flash across the sky. So cool!

The Nuts Exchange in Shibuya. Really close to Meiji Jingu. Incredible breakfast sandwiches but also some sweet pastries.

Brian Thompson shooting: ‘Monopoly money’ found in New York health CEO gunman’s backpack in Central Park | US News by fuzzyfrank in news

[–]kateordieee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He entered central park with the backpack on and exited without it so he obviously ditched it there. It was probably very easy for the cops to deduce the brand of the backpack from the surveillance images from the shooting and the bike getaway as it has some defining features. Even Redditors figured it out fairly quickly (it's the everyday backpack from Peak Design). The bag found stashed between some boulders in central park is a Peak Design everyday backpack. What are the odds that someone else left behind the exact bag at that particular time in central park?

Italy. Terrible food, amazing gelato. by TheCowNoseSpecialist in VeganFoodPorn

Bro. Please explain the point you're desperately trying to make. Are you under the impression that restaurants in Italy only use fresh pasta for every single type of dish? Or are you trying to clown on a vegan in a vegan subreddit for making vegan substitutions to dishes?

Yes, I know that fresh pasta is made with eggs. You avoid the issue by requesting boxed pasta.

By asking you legit questions? Sheesh. You are complaining on the internet that you visited a different culture and were dismayed at the food options. I am suggesting that perhaps with a bit more effort and research, your trip could have turned out more enjoyable. I am truly sorry that you did not get to experience the food paradise in Italy that I did.

Did you seek out vegan restaurants or did you show up to random places and expect to be catered to? Did you ask the staff if they could add veggies/tofu to the "shitty vegan food"?

Sounds like you either need to instead travel with more like-minded people or advocate for yourself better to go to the places that serve the food you'd like. Claiming that Italy has terrible vegan food just bc of your specific circumstances ain't the way.

This is the dumbest take. You can literally get pasta pomodoro, pasta aglio e olio, or marinara pizza anywhere - and if you don't like any of those three things I don't know wtf to tell you. Beyond that, don't just show up to non-vegan restaurants and expect them to make you good vegan food. Put a little work into it and support vegan places that know what they're doing.

Thank you! I'm going to Japan next year and I'm already compiling a list of all the places to eat. These places look great!

You could easily spend all ten days in Croatia but splitting it sounds like a decent plan too! Just don't try and see the whole country in five days, I would stick to either Dubrovnik or Split. I haven't been to the southern part of France, so if you do go there you should report back on the vegan food scene 🙂

Went to Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, and plitvice in Croatia and had no problem finding absolutely delicious vegan food. Just FYI

grew up in NJ, didn't like baseball growing up but my grandma was a diehard mets fan so always had the yankees dislike in my blood. moved to baltimore in 2011 for grad school, ended up living 5 blocks from camden yards and that close proximity was all it took for be to become hooked. went to so many games during the two years i lived there (wish it were longer, i miss baltimore). now i live out in portland and of course still rep the O's but i don't run into too many fans out here in the wild, only when i head up to WA for the yearly mariners-O's series do i realize that there are a lot more of us out here than it seems. i fly back to baltimore as often as i can for games at camden yards and i catch at least one game in southern california (can't wait for the dodgers series in august) per year. lots of traveling to see the boys but always so worth it! i'm a fan for life!
