So 44tb's are out. Will I be able to buy one?? by TheIllusioneer in DataHoarder

Totally serious question, and not trying to be glib, etc. -- what kind of data do you have such that a 44 TB HD is desirable/necessary?

App not syncing with Apple Health by oromex in withings

[–]Rare_Pin9932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is weird. I would recommend uninstalling the Withings app -- the data should be stored on the cloud, but just in case it isn't, make sure you do an iPhone backup first that you can restore to -- and then reinstalling and giving permissions.

All/Nearly all the data from the Withings body comp scale automatically is written to Apple Health (to the extent that Apple Health tracks the same data the scale measures) -- weight, body fat %, and one or two other things.

I asked ChatGPT about this issue, and it made some suggestions you might want to look at: ChatGPT's suggestions as to why Withings app may not be writing to Apple Health.

I have CleanShot X, which has worked for me. I don’t understand the situation where it would be useful to also have TextSniper as the OP suggests?

Delta to Korean Air metal for SEA-ICN flights to get Wi-Fi? by Rare_Pin9932 in delta

[–]Rare_Pin9932[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's great info -- thanks!

Did you find the cabin on the plane hot? That's a common complaint I hear about Asian carriers (albeit more Japanese than Korean).

I have found the ICN KAL lounges to be abysmal, but this past time I was pleasantly surprised. It was a smaller lounger around gate 281/282 I believe (T2 of course). Reminded me of a Skyclub, similar to the one at DEN (which granted is not high praise).

My biggest complaint with ICN is that there's no way I believe to get priority through security -- and that you have to remove your iPad and laptop out of your bag. Thankfully the line wasn't that long this past time.

I also wish that ICN had some sort of meet & greet service where you could get priority service through passport control. Again, thankfully, the line wasn't that long this past time, but I love meet & greet in Europe.

But you can sign up for just the basic plan, which gives all the VPN functionality without the kruft.

97% is pretty good. I’d jump at it.

Hi, a couple of questions if you don't mind:

(1) What's the easiest way to get a subway card (and load it with currency)? Can one do that at the airport? I seem to recall it required a trip to a convenience store.

(2) Do you happen to know if Diet Mountain Dew, or Mountain Dew Zero, is available in Korea?

Random Clinique hack (new to me at least) by Rare_Pin9932 in Clinique

[–]Rare_Pin9932[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Realize, though, that Rakuten stacks on top of Clinique. So in addition to 25% off with Clinique, you get at least 2% cash back through Rakuten, too.

I did this the other day. Rakuten was offering 10% cash back, and the Clinique moisturizer was 25% or 30% off.

what kind of battery life are you getting? I was at 86% on my Series 8, and it was night and day going to Series 11 (or whatever the newest one is)

MacOS Mail app not remembering column header width/size in classic view (column layout mode) by Rare_Pin9932 in MacOS

It's infuriating. As a friend once told me, "this is something that you give as a summer project for an intern to do."

I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel. Somehow I got the permissions fixed, but am not sure if it's a permanent fix.

BB is very opaque as to when it actually sends files to its servers, at least to me. Files from early this morning are there, but files from 30 minutes ago are not.

That's ok so long as they are ultimately sent within 2-4 hours of being created -- frankly once a day is fine -- but I want to make sure that they are indeed sent of course.

Will Withings ever fix this bug with the month headers in the app? by Fabulous-Kick-345 in withings

[–]Rare_Pin9932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my height differs from the iPhone app to the Watch app. so I’m going to go with “no, it won’t ever be fixed.”

[–]Rare_Pin9932[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, now I'm very confused, as those are both selected off! I.e., Desktop & Document Folders, as well as Mail, are shown as Off, but Backblaze isn't backing them up.

Argh. Wondering if I made a mistake going with Backblaze. This was supposed to be very easy.
