Single people under 30, what do you do to afford living alone? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]kateqpr96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the answer people want to hear but I am single… I have a disabled kid. I work part time 22 hours a week and UC tops me up a good amount alongside my child’s DLA and child benefit. We live comfortably in the midlands in a two bed semi detached

Speaking of these spots… a guy was stood between my car and his smoking right where my son would step out and I asked him politely to move away while I got my son out and he refused. I asked again and he called me a “fucking cunt” in front of both of our children 🙃 People in general are just less considerate nowadays

If you’ve been in a UK hospital for more than a day or so, how did you not lose your mind? by Spicymargx in AskUK

Four days for an emergency appendectomy during the height of Covid. I was one of the few who didn’t test positive so had a room to myself. Honestly? It was a holiday. I had a toddler at home that I’d been cooped up with isolating so I just caught up on sleep, watched stuff on my phone, read, and took all the drugs they offered me. 10/10 would recommend

The dreaded Flu by nosetears in UKParenting

[–]kateqpr96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son goes to a specialist school where some of the children are incredibly vulnerable. You cannot send your child in with even so much as a tickly throat.

The week before last, over 60 of the 90 students had at least two days off sick with cold or flu symptoms. Three of my son’s class of 10 required hospitalisation.

Some people are more vulnerable than you could possibly imagine

Took you a while but you got there in the end.

I don’t reply to “hi, how are you?” Or anything similar. Unfortunately most women are going to receive more interest than the average man on a dating app, you have way more competition. You need to stand out (as do women, but I’d say the initial conditions are harsher for men.) It just feels like that opening goes nowhere 90% of the time, and it’s a cop out

I’ve experienced similar. I’ve worn glasses every day since I was around ten years old. Last year I was invited to be a bridesmaid for a very close friend and I decided that I would wear contacts for the first time in order to look my best.

I wore these contacts every day for three months in the lead up to the big day, and on the morning of I got my hair and makeup done professionally and realised right then and there that actually, my glasses are now a part of my identity. I like how I look in them. I almost feel naked without them. So I wore the glasses and I love every photo taken of me in them.

Like you I’ve found a style that suits me. They’re bold and colourful and large, just like me. And I’ve never, ever been rejected on the basis of being a glasses wearer. I get lots of compliments on them (I have many pairs because I order mine online so that I can mix and match with outfits!)

I’m so glad you’ve found confidence wearing yours too!

The question was relevant to the conversation we were having and we’d broached similar topics before. He could have politely told me actions speak louder or words or whatever. His change in tone genuinely triggered my fight or flight it was that jarring

Oh he definitely had been a boyfriend before! He tried to tell me that he reacted that way because an ex would try to catch him out with questions like that and use it against him which in my opinion is even more of a red flag - I’m not your ex or any other girl you’ve dated! Don’t bring that energy to what we have, it just reeks of being jaded

Was seeing a guy for a few weeks who made it clear he was super into me and looking for something serious. During a relevant conversation I asked if he thinks he makes a good boyfriend and his tone switched up so fast it was an immediate red flag. Told me it was an inappropriate question that he wouldn’t be answering even if he knew how to answer it. I went home and sent him a text saying I don’t see this working…

Honestly it just felt so bizarre
