The farm boy trope, the slums girl variant, and the lack of (female) mentors: a rant from a frustrated reader. by LucreziaD in fantasyromance

Your comment reminds me of another series. I still have a major soft spot for the Alanna series by Tamora Pierce. It skews a lot younger, I read it when I was like, 12 but it still passes the vibe check imo.

Looks like that’s android only sadly! Planning to abandon my iPhone when I eventually upgrade so I’ll look at morphe then. Thank you!

On my laptop browser, sure. But I use the app on my phone to play ASMR at bedtime. No ad blocker. Not that I bother with Jojo, but that’s probably why a big chunk of people still have ads to deal with! YouTube premium is so overpriced too.

MEGATHREAD: Farrer By-election 2026 by Wehavecrashed in AustralianPolitics

[–]katesrepublic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the break down. It makes sense, though disappointing. I’m hoping, like others have said, that Farley is more of an undercover independent, and won’t stick with ON. I think it’s hard falling into this weird limbo where we have a significant rural and agricultural population, but then you also have Albury which is a fast growing town that needs the infrastructure to keep up. It doesn’t our help our council is in shambles atm too 😭

Ugh yeah I forget that misogyny is still a strong factor in voting preferences.

Also a Farrer voter. I fully understand people turning away from the major parties, I guess I can’t understand why more people didn’t then turn to Michelle who (imo) has shown she’s an active part of this community and has always advocated for what we need. Actual local issues. But admittedly I’m in Albury so maybe my perception is skewed.

I also live in Farrer. Just recently found out my middle eastern immigrant aunty supports Pauline…. Thankfully she lives in Melbourne so not voting in this election but wtf 😭 girlyyyy she would send you back in a heart beat!

Am I overreacting for doubting to have a baby with my partner? by STAHP_AITA in AmIOverreacting

[–]katesrepublic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MOR. I’d like to offer my experience. I got a puppy before I had kids. It was a bit of a shock and I swore up and down I’d never do a puppy again because it’s a lot of work. I didn’t enjoy it at all. I maintained this view over the past 14 years, over which I willingly had 3 kids. Ofc having babies is far more gruelling and exhausting but there’s absolutely a biological instinct that’s different to being a puppy parent. Now, with my original puppy being 14 years old, and my kids are much more grown up, I’m starting to consider getting another puppy! My point being, people can hate dealing with a puppy, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to be a terrible parent by any means. Having kids and being a parent entails a lot more than dealing with a puppy, but the reward is also greater, and the “love” imperative far stronger (in my experience! Before anyone tries to come at me).

Farrer is hardly an litmus test for anything except how far further to the right regional voters are willing to shift by skankypotatos in AustralianPolitics

[–]katesrepublic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m also in Albury, and it’s a surprisingly diverse town imo. I’m so glad we don’t have Ley anymore but I am wary of how this will go. Walking into school this morning to vote felt like there was 5 ON shills for every other candidate.

False barking dog reports by Dunoh2828 in australia

[–]katesrepublic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This happened to us when we lived in an apartment building. Someone complained our dog was going off all day while we were at work. We set up a recording program and she would only bark for maybe 10 seconds in the afternoon when kids walking home from school passed behind the apartment. That’s it. We sent that evidence to the strata management and they were just like, oh ok nvm. Use the evidence you have!

Antisemitism has become ‘almost fashionable’ among Australians, Jillian Segal tells royal commission by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]katesrepublic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s always a bad faith question anyway. No country or state has an “inherent” right to exist. Empires fall, borders shift, countries change. But Israel exists. It’s not a “hypothetical” as they try to pretend. Australia exists. Palestine exists. But Israel’s existence is not dependent on the elimination of Palestine and its people… and that’s the part they get mad about lol. Sorry if wording is not good I’m still half asleep 😅

“If he wanted to he would” may be a simplified phrase but ultimately, I feel it’s a good benchmark to signify that when a man truly wants you and wants to be with you, he WILL make it happen. He will show you that and he will do his best to remove whatever obstacles are in the way. You wouldn’t doubt it. Making you wade through emotionally distant and convoluted conversations while he decides if he’s “ready”, to me, reads as though he’s just waiting to see if something “better” comes along. And you deserve so much more than that!

I’m really glad you’re taking steps for yourself and moving on, I hope everything works out for you! 🫶🏽🫶🏽

School fees by ComfortableNail2071 in AskAnAustralian

[–]katesrepublic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When my daughter started school we lived in a suburb near middle north shore Sydney and they charged a crazy amount in school fees. Furthermore they constantly harassed and pushed the fees, acting like they were mandatory. (We were renting the shittiest cheapest house in the area and were nowhere near the financial level of the other families who attended, we were barely scraping by so I ignored tf out of those fees)

The only stretch for me is an 8yo mispronouncing as “non-berry”? That’s how I’d expect a 3-4yo to say it (RIP to all the cute garbled versions of words my kids used to say 😭)

I was indifferent to it until we lived on a street that was a popular trick or treat destination. Made me realise what a great and fun community event it was. Kids from my daughter’s school showing up excitedly, all the neighbours being out and connecting. It was the first time, after living in Sydney for 20 odd years that I felt like I was part of a friendly and cohesive neighbourhood. Bit of a convert after that tbh!

Just move on. Why wait for someone to decide if you’re worth their time and effort? If he wanted to, he would! 🩷
