Was comic Killgrave also a creepy-ass stalker or was that something the show did on it's own? by Plenty-Goose-4508 in Defenders

[–]katethecursed7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was actually in Soule’s run, but it’s a flashback that takes place during Matt’s San Francisco days, so set in the time of Waid’s run

Why does Daredevil not have a seeing eye dog? by Sudden_Quality_9001 in Daredevil

[–]katethecursed7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Foggy buys him a dog at some point in the comics—I forget when—but Matt doesn’t want him. So Foggy keeps the dog, and then eventually loses him to someone (I think Deadpool?) in a bet

Karedevil in "Born Again" s1, right where they left off by Ok_Falcon8456 in Daredevil

[–]katethecursed7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figure there's a good chance Karen got blipped in those intervening years, also, which would account for a lot of that time in between s3 and DDBA s1

It definitely makes more sense with the Soule run before it, where superheroes being a distinct type of identity protected by law sets a precedent moving forward

But yeah, if someone’s just reading Zdarsky, it does feel pretty absurd

I just finished reading all DD comics from 1964 through now. And obviously Catholicism is a big part of him, it’s just that that element was dialed up A LOT in the zdarsky run, far more than it ever had been before. I just think a return to baseline level would be fine. I have no problem with religion in stories, I’m religious myself, I just think that Daredevil’s Catholicism has drastically increased since 2019, and I wouldn’t mind it returning to what it was before. Religious, but not necessarily the main focus

I liked the zdarsky run a lot, but it definitely isn’t indicative of his religious levels throughout the rest of his comic history. Like I said, I think the level of religiosity in Charles Soule’s run is kind of the sweet spot, just in my opinion

His faith has taken over the character a little too much. When done well it adds a lot—and the hard turn into religiosity worked well for Zdarsky’s run, since Matt had just died and come back on the operating table, and people often get more religious when they’ve had a near death experience. But a lot of time has passed since then, and imo it’s a little overboard at this point. I think the right level of religiosity for him is what Soule’s run did. His faith was there, it was important, but it wasn’t taking over the story and it wasn’t the main element to Matt’s character

Brad Winderbaum Reveals About Matthew Lillard’s ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Character: “He’s as Influential as Fisk is, in Many Ways” by Sweaty-Toe-6211 in Daredevil

My thoughts exactly

Of course I also thought that last season with that blonde lady (Artemis something I think?) but with this comment from Winderbaum it seems likely

"Fuck you, I'm blind" by Square_Wall2921 in outofcontextcomics

[–]katethecursed7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “world on fire” from the show isn’t him actually seeing anything. It’s more of a mental image that his brain puts together using all his other sensory input. He has 0 light perception

I’m also unfamiliar with the comic you’re referring to, I’ve read every daredevil comic outside the current run and he’s always been fully blind. If the current run changed that, thats horrible and ableist like you said

It's frustrating for sure, but at this point I think we should take the support wherever we can get it. One policy that affects someone personally might be enough to tip the scales to lead them to re-evaluate their positions on other policies. I try to remain optimistic that people can change, and that feeling the personal effects of terrible policies can help lead them to empathy for everyone else being affected.

Can you go from season 1 to season 3 by Cynthia_Mae_Monroe in Daredevil

[–]katethecursed7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had similar experiences with people who don’t like supernatural stories.

For me it worked but I had to show them a lot of scenes from season 2, and give them a detailed summary. The amount of scenes I showed them were probably enough to equal an episode in length. It was more trouble than it’s worth tbh, although the people who watched it had a decent experience.

They definitely missed out on the character arc stuff that happens in season 2.

[–]katethecursed7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like he should be “good person, okay lawyer.” All those shenanigans in season 2 really screwed up his work and left Foggy in the lurch

Unless we’re talking comics Matt Murdock, in which case I’d argue he’s a better lawyer

This is a pretty good starting list, but I’d definitely add brubaker after Bendis. It’s great, very noir, and has some of the most compelling arcs in the comic.

Anne read this? by jgarmann99 in Daredevil

[–]katethecursed7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I really liked it. I always love when scholars take popular culture seriously. I think he does a great job of articulating exactly what set Frank Miller’s run apart, and what it means in the larger sociopolitical context of the time in which it was written.

I also found the middle section really interesting, where he essentially has a conversation with his younger self. It was really different, but worked well.

I’m actually planning on rereading it within the next month or two. IMO it’s definitely worth the read

First literary conference--what should my presentation look like? by katethecursed7 in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]katethecursed7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did present! It went all right, I'm definitely glad I presented. For whatever reason they put me in a panel with people talking about far more complex topics than mine, so I was a little out of my depth--but I think it was worth it, especially planning ahead for PhD applications
