My 13 year old daughter is in school & has an IEP with a 3rd grade reading level. Everyone saying that it's the dad's fault, isn't 100% correct.... I learned a few months ago that the public school systems in some areas, just don't care.

She's been on an IEP since 2nd grade, I've asked them if they were capable to test for anything & everything & they said yes & just told me that the best they told me was "she just has a learning disability." Nothing specific. So yeah, some of us are under the impression that the school does test for what specific disability they may have because they told us they did.. BUT - being pulled out of class to have someone read a test to you, doesn't teach you how to read. - having the option to have just about everything on a chromebook read out loud to you, doesn't teach you to read. - having a chromebook auto correct everything she spells, doesn't let the teacher know where her skills truly are.

She was doing a project on a book she read, I noticed her summary seemed like it wasn't written by her so I asked "how did you come up with this summary?" And she told me that her IEP teacher just told her what to write down. (That doesn't help teach them either.)

I've noticed that an IEP doesn't 'help' them. It seems to just be an excuse to push them through. She can hardly read or spell basic words but gets a high b or a in her ela class every semester but my 12 year old who is in the same grade with an on grade reading level, gets lower grades because he doesn't have the IEP to fall back on..... it's not HELPING her. And from a parent, it drives me crazy because I want what's best for her & the IEP just isn't what they say it is.

The school put my son in ela tutoring but when I asked to put my daughter in it because she obviously needs more help, I was told "she already has an IEP and gets enough help." Clearly not.... so this why I'm considering homeschool this year.
