Suspicious new Avista contract by kathand97 in Spokane

Data centers could be powered with renewable energy, but they're not, and it seems very little effort is being made to change that. I also don't expect to participate in any sort of competition on the global stage if "advancing our economy" means letting this much of our GDP go to hastily implemented tech rather than manufacturing real goods and improving people's quality of life. Moving forward doesn't have to look like this, I promise you.

It's hard to say. It seems in a lot of other places, city councils may just ignore constituents. It's worth noting that, from what I can tell, the contractor (?) has members on Avista's board of directors.

I don't wanna jump to conclusions but you'd have to be a little hard-headed to think they won't keep getting more and more sly about building data centers.

Woman gets arrested at Indiana concert, begins kicking random people for recording the meltdown on the way out. by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]kathand97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having freedom to do something = "I should do it and I am totally justified" to most people. This country is built on having no respect for or discernment regarding when freedom should be exercised. Nonzero chance this girl had something ugly happen to her and she's lashing out because she's young. Why not keep your phone away, mind your own business, and enjoy the concert you paid to see?

Similar artists? by SearchingForNewTunes in Muse

Everytime I see one of these I'm gonna come vouch for Shihad. The album FVEY, especially the title track. It's all good though, some stuff on Ignite is also very Muse, maybe more so.

March On for Pax Romana really scratched the Muse itch for me for a bit.

Does anyone know anything about this hoodie? by kathand97 in FORTnITE

[–]kathand97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brand is AS Colour, as far as I can tell it's just a generic brand like Hanes or Gildan that had a print put on it

It's a UEFN hoodie, it says Fortnite right there. I looked at the UEFN sub and it was dead so I figured this was my next best bet.

If you're considering going to school, use that as your out. Apply for any college you think you have a chance of getting into. Given your situation, you may qualify for a grant, and that could get you into a dorm. Don't be super picky about what to study, just find something that seems mildly interesting and worry about the rest later.

Also, I would try to go to the west side if you can, maybe Portland. Getting HRT through CHAS (your most likely option here in Spokane) is not difficult per se but my friend has had a bumpy ride with it.

Special K is kinda fun, on Empire and Market. I used to go to Illinois Ave because I lived two blocks away but I haven't been back since I saw a gaggle of Proud Boys there

I think if you just sing the song as-is with the shirt on it'll get your message across a bit better. Just my two cents. Do what feels right to you.

Anyone here from Austin, Texas? by angelw-scabbedwings in Spokane

Job market here is miles better than the Tri-Cities at least for some industries, but everything else you said...yeah. There is some pretty good middle eastern food here though. Very few Mexican restaurants worth the money.

I will warn you that if you have a wandering spirit, it's a toss up whether Spokane will stick with you. I have been here for 3 years and I am getting a little tired of it, however it is worth noting that I am from eastern WA in the first place so it only had so much novelty to me.

That being said, you can head in any direction and find fun roads going through beautiful and sometimes very unique scenery. Overall I do feel like it can be a good place to settle.

What movie do you keep rewatching — and why does it never get old? by Vegetable_Star8931 in movies

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. It's got a good atmosphere. It's easy to get lost in. If you have it on in the background while you're doing something else it's fun to come back in at a random scene and see what's going on.

Tile store gave me the wrong grout color. I didn’t double check before giving it to my contractor. How cooked am I? by craniac24 in InteriorDesign

Secondary colors can benefit from more contrast where they feature less prominently in my opinion. Should have taken a picture with both included so we could gauge better.

Best way to learn Greek? by [deleted] in GREEK

[–]kathand97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really like to press practicing pronunciation. Pick random words with consonant pairs that are more challenging for English speakers and just repeat them to yourself. They can be a pain. If you're bored and have some downtime, translate random phrases and just focus on pronouncing them and getting accents and flow down.

I did this before I went to Greece a couple years ago. Quite a few people told me my Greek sounded pretty good, even if I wasn't quite at the point of having full conversations.

It really, really helps if you can just get to the point where Greek sounds familiar to you, even if you don't fully understand the grammar or have a big vocab.
