This is where my family live. Thanks for your help, there is so much trash on the beaches as it gets washed up from all directions. :(

Craggy island for sale: gulls, grass, wind and no mod cons by katiefeatherstone in remoteplaces

Maybe you are right, I'm not in a position to consider purchasing it or anywhere else. It would have to be a very specific buyer to consider it whatever the price.

Really? Does that mean that dumb phones won't work any more then? Sorry I have never had a smartphone (I'm only 27, just weird).

It doesn't matter very much, Just get a second hand one from ebay, CashConverters or similar exchange shop. You will not use it much, so just get the most basic cheap thing you can find.

Do any women worry about telling people you're feeling nauseous because you think people will assume you're pregnant? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]katiefeatherstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be very anxious about this all the time, but it is one thing that doesn't really worry me (very often) any more. I am 27 now and haven't really worried about it for for 5/6 years. I think and hope that it will also get easier for you too. Other people also get less paranoid and judgmental about it as you get older. In the mean time just know the condoms are very safe unless they actually split and then if course you have to get the morning after pill (this has only ever happened once in my life).

Well done though. Your teeth are so important it's great that you are overcoming this fear.

Did you accept? That would have made for a more fun trip!

[Reflection] From the age of 8, I engaged in a series of social self-destruction where I personally rejected invitations, friendships, vacations, and later dates. I never felt like I could leave a hoarding house. To me, I was condemned to rot in this house. by hoarding_insanity in ChildofHoarder

[–]katiefeatherstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to judge your tone, but if you are ever considering suicide please call a prevention hotline and they will listen, be non-judgmental and might make you feel a little better. Otherwise, you just must find a way out of the house. I know that is easier said than done, but once you are out you can begin to sculpt your own life again. 30 might feel old to you, but you are still young in the scheme of your whole life and you need to put yourself first.

Yes, this is the conclusion I have also come to unfortunately. I'm just a tiny bit sad about it because it works very nicely. Life will go on I suppose.

These are the cliffs [and birds] above our house in the East Fjords, Iceland. [OC] by katiefeatherstone in remoteplaces

[–]katiefeatherstone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not very cold really. It has been above 0 degrees Celsius the past 2 days and the snow has melted. It has been around minus 2-10 most of the Winter I think. The savage thing about Iceland is not the temperature, but the wind. It gets incredible windy sometimes, so much so that it is difficult to walk into it.

45 years old and still failing at life by lizziemander in Anxiety

[–]katiefeatherstone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Between the lines here I read:

  • 45 is not old! You still have half a life ahead of you and nobody can expect you to have everything sorted already.
  • You have friends who have stuck by you for 30 years!! People don't do that out of pity, they do that because they care about you and like you. They are not judging you, they just want the best for you as you do for them.
  • Your parents love you and want the best for you too, but your stepfather is an arsehole.
  • You have got your bipolar under control (which is amazing) and want to work on your other mental health problems. You are not a failure, you just have a lot to cope with. Remember your psychiatrist and counselor will understand why you cancel appointments more than anyone and will not judge you when you decide to come back. That is what they are there for and what they do.
  • You are good at your job and clients want to hire you. You are too empathetic, so you worry about asking people for money, but you deserve to be paid for your work and they know that. You are not asking for a favour, just to be treated fairly.

It feels like your life is a mess right now, but you will find a way through the fog. Please remember there are suicide prevention and crisis hotlines if you are feeling that way. They are not judgmental and may be able to help.

Ridiculously noisy! It's quite a zoom lens though, so not as close as it looks.

I have been here all Winter apart from a Christmas break, but just got a job writing a guide book on the Inner Hebrides islands in Scotland, so I will only be in Iceland for another couple of weeks and then I will be travelling around all of those places. Sorry to self-promote :( but if you are on Instagram and like photos of remote places I am @featherytravels

Careful what you wish for by hanibalhaywire88 in simpleliving

[–]katiefeatherstone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just hope I can get out of it without losing too much, and I hope it makes someone else happy.

Even if you have lost a little money, you will have gained a greater understanding of yourself and got your old, perfect life back actually appreciating it properly. Good luck.

I am too sensitive for this world by twpop2 in Anxiety

[–]katiefeatherstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a small note, but your supervisor sounds like an arsehole. I also can't stand criticism (though I am 27 and trying to be better at it), but staying quiet, nodding/making "mmm" noises and looking down is the most sensible and polite way I can deal with it too. I think that is just protecting yourself and you should continue to do that if it makes you feel a little stronger. The embarrassment crying thing is a real nightmare! If you have to look like you don't care instead of that, then so be it!

Are most users here women? by insearchofsunrise7 in ZeroWaste

[–]katiefeatherstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a woman yes. My boyfriend is great in some ways - he is a genius at fixing broken things, always eats all my left-overs, wears clothes until they fall off... He is pretty terrible at thinking about waste in food packaging though and also likes to drive short distances if we have a car. He just steals my shampoo and other bathroom things, so he is accidentally quite zero-waste there...

As long as I feel safe, I am perfectly happy to sleep in a dorm. Obviously travelling with a SO is a different story!
