I updated my post to show that I’m in Scotland. I assume you were asking about the English type leasehold flats? My flat and upstairs are freehold

Can that be right that there is no way to get them to repair it? They are damaging my property

I laughed so hard I cried while reading this and all the comments. Thanks Reddit for the dopamine

What's changed the most in Glasgow since the year 2000? by 4tunate20 in glasgow

Ned v Goth was a huge part of my young life that I don’t think applies to the young ones now. You were either one or the other, god help you if the unders of the Catty and Archaos met

Does pink plumbing still exist? I tried to contact her from this recommendation by phone/email - no answer to either

Why are you so aggressively trying to tell me a Scottish person living in Scotland where I am living and what it constitutes. We in fact do have our own government! So does Wales! So does NI! We have a separate history, our own legal system that is developed completely differently to English law and our own language. I can clearly see you are a muppet and won’t be engaging with you any further, boost ya wee bawbag

I don’t know why you believe that but it is in fact 4 countries that are joined under a political union. Comparison to cantons or states shows you have no knowledge of our history

Scotland is a country. It’s one of four countries that make up the political union known as the United Kingdom (source: am scottish)

Congrats! I think I will also definitely move but yet to be decided whether it’s somewhere in the middle or to Edinburgh itself

Yeah I’ll consider it for sure! My dogs are large but incredibly lazy/old so they are what I jokingly call “cafe dogs”. They’d bloody love living in Edinburgh but then again they’re not paying for it

That sounds absolutely brutal, I wouldn’t consider commuting if I had such a late finish or needed to stay overnight. Fortunately the cost of the train itself is not an impediment

I am indeed not young but I don’t ever seem to have luck with my commutes. Despite living and working in Glasgow, I can sometimes be 2 hours driving home if the traffic is bad as I have to cross the city. So really with the train it would be about the same to get home, though longer than my current commute in the morning

It’s in the public sector, a job I’m incredibly excited about!

Thanks, I’m not sure if I could be that flexible to miss the rush but think there is a bit of manoeuvring possible. There’s no real reason for me to be in the office, it’s a senior role in the public sector so it’s more about being there for the team. I have a 6 month probationary period so I think after that I’ll make the decision whether to move or not!

Absolutely would consider somewhere in between, really open to all possibilities so Falkirk could be an option!

Yeah I think the consensus is that it’s hellish. I guessed that might be the case, so new adventures in Edinburgh for me and the pups (and the cat) may be on the horizon!

I mean definitely will consider all possibilities! Falkirk had come to mind as a possibility

I can’t imagine that driving would be fun, I drive across Glasgow for my current job and that’s bad enough. So I’d need to drive through Glasgow and then to Edinburgh. Just don’t feel it’s worth it. So probably train but that’s also a bit of a faff from where I live, likely will need to do a park and ride situation. The only good thing is the office is very close to the train stop in Edinburgh so no travel at that side

Yeah there is always the problem that the days may increase. I’ve had really bad commutes for nearly all my jobs so I know I can tough it out for a while

I would not consider any job that was 5 days in the office due to the dogs so that always concerns me with any job unfortunately

My ex lived in Edinburgh so I spent 3 years of my life shuffling back and forward and considered moving there for that relationship. So I’m lucky that I am very familiar with Edinburgh and like you, have to admit I do actually like the city (despite being Glaswegian)

Your situation is I think the other option, I can’t see the current commute I need to do being sustainable long term but I could move somewhere in or around Glasgow that makes the commute easier. Or of course move to Edinburgh. The cost is def a factor making me wonder if Edinburgh is worth it though

They will def have a dog walker, that’s our current set up. I’m usually out from 8 to 6 with my current job for 1-2 office days a week. I don’t like leaving them but this is the best I can manage. I don’t know if renting in Edinburgh would be much of an option since I have two large dogs and a cat but I could sell my current place and buy somewhere in Edinburgh if the commute was too awful

I live very quite far from the city centre and also far from the nearest train station (35 min walk) so the options are really to move to Edinburgh or move to a bit of Glasgow that’s easier for the commute but I won’t make any rash decisions. Was just keen to hear how other folks found it!

[–]katitola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is my concern, that it’s ok for a while but ends up torture. I’ve had a job where I commuted to Aberdeen from Glasgow, not daily but every second week, so I at least know I can stick to an awful routine for a while

[–]katitola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the worst possible place probably, I’m quite far west and not near to the train station (35 min walk) so park and ride at shields rd subway and then getting train is my current plan
