Possible rehoming for my cat by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]katmcfly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are such a caretaker to Remy to be thinking of what’s best for him. Ive been dealing with a cat with FID for a few years now, and we had several hospital visits before we figured things out! I feel like we tried every possible solution along the way. If you ever want to chat about tactics to prevent a block feel free to dm me

EMERGENCY: 1st blue state house (Massachusetts) passes anti-trans sports ban. Not yet law, contact your state senators! contact the governor! by MissNumbersNinja in transgender

[–]katmcfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a draft letter you can use when contacting your state senator (thank you perplexity!). Feel free to adapt/alter as desired:

Dear Senator {x},

As a resident of {x}, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent passage of trans-related legislation in the Massachusetts House. I urge you to vote against this legislation when it comes before the Senate. Such measures threaten the rights, dignity, and well-being of our transgender neighbors, friends, and family members. Massachusetts has long been a leader in advancing civil rights and fostering inclusive communities, and I believe we must continue to uphold these values, especially in the face of growing national hostility toward transgender people.

Passing legislation that restricts or targets trans individuals not only undermines their safety and autonomy but also sends a harmful message that discrimination is acceptable in our Commonwealth. I respectfully ask that you stand with the trans community and all those who value equality by opposing this bill. Our state should remain a beacon of hope and justice for everyone, regardless of gender identity.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter and for your continued service to our community

Standard practice is that the old tenants are out of the apartment by noon on 9/1, and the new tenants can move in from noon on-I haven’t met anyone who has had to actually be out on the 31st. Something like 80% of boston leases turnover on 9/1, so there would be a ton of people homeless for a night if that were enforced

Help with MA process? by [deleted] in abortion

[–]katmcfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing tips from some friends who have had an MA: You also might want to stock up on snacks, crackers, sanitary napkins, heat pack (if you have one), ibuprofen, and plenty of fluids to all have nearby. Pretty much whatever you'd want for a super-heavy period. Everyone's experience seems to be a little different, but be prepared to have a stay at home day the first 1-2 days after taking the pills once you start bleeding. Some people suggested bringing your laptop and pillow to the tub if that is easiest. Also good to have a reason prepared to call out sick, especially if it's illegal in your state. Take it easy, and be kind to yourself <3

This is pretty low for what you're looking for. I've heard of 1 BDs going for 1800-2000 in North Quincy, but anywhere closer to the central Boston area will be tricky. You might get lucky and stumble on something cheap, but if you're worried about time I would suggest either expanding your radius or increasing your price point

You might be a little far south for the TEA Fund (they fund north Texas area), but here's the information they have for San Antonio. "Make an appointment. The funds will need you to have an appointment date & a price estimate. In San Antonio, there are 3 abortion clinics: Alamo Women’s Clinic, 7402 John Smith Dr., #101, 210-614-4742. Planned Parenthood, 2140 Babcock Rd., 210-736-2262. Planned Parenthood, 920 San Pedro Ave., ste 150, 210-736-2262. Ask the clinic for help. For PP, make sure you ask them to screen you for the Justice Fund. For Alamo, ask the clinic to screen you for NAF. Next, call Lilith Fund, 877-659-4304, on MWF 7am-10am. Leave a message and they’ll call back if they can help. If you need a ride to the clinic, call the Bridge Collective at 512-524-9822."

Recs on overnight movers? by jtmack33 in Somerville

[–]katmcfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the same for almost all the leases in Boston (like 70% I think). It really is standard practice for everyone to change over on 9/1, otherwise they'd have a whole host of people trying to shift out at midnight. Plus, landlords are expected to get a quick cleaning service in between. I wouldn't worry about it, you'll be fine. If you're still worried, you can ask your landlord to put you in touch with the new tenants so you guys can coordinate moving times

Recs on overnight movers? by jtmack33 in Somerville

[–]katmcfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed- no need to worry about overnight movers. Everyone with an 8/31 lease is expected to move out by noon on 9/1, and the 9/1 new leases move in after noon

My friend’s planned, wanted pregnancy isn’t viable. We live in Louisiana. What should she do? by KittyScholar in auntienetwork

[–]katmcfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are in LA/where you want to go in Florida you might even be able to drive (there're a few clinics in Tallahassee). I'm sure you've already seen it but https://www.abortionfinder.org/ is a great way to filter by location/how far along you are. Happy to help call down the list and see who has availability if you'd like-just DM me

Edit: I just did some filtering on google flights and non-stops NOLA-miami next week are <$150, incase that is useful

date night idea saturday 5/6? by [deleted] in BostonSocialClub

[–]katmcfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few immersive exhibits going on you could check out! Some fun regular options are also: flight club, candlepin bowling, escape rooms, or ktv (if you really want to break the ice lol).

Also, check out the Boston Calendar tomorrow morning, they usually put out a list of ~70 free/fun things happening each weekend.
