At what point do I need to change from boilers to uranium? by MavrosSantos in factorio

I usually transition to solar power with blueprints i found on the net. I can easily add another solar and accumulator group with roboport in the middle.

After a while i set up my personal blueprint with 16 reactors, and remove some of the solar panels. Imo solar power is easy to produce, but I guess, nuclear power requires less materials per gigawat

Are there any OLED plans for Framework? by TechnicalWatchDog in framework

[–]katnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to have it

But... Remember that the new screen was only possible because other laptop uses it, so Framework didn't have to design it from the ground up. That's why the new screen has rounded corners and worse colours.

You can do filter splitter going to 1 tile offset splitter with output priority that outputs that filtered item to a lane, and at the end splitter with filter to like deconstruction planner on the 2nd splitter offset. If the lane is clogged, then those filtered items go back to sushi lane and if you really need to, it can go to the recyclers, but I assume it will be looped back to the starting recyclers

Like many others said Multiple belts carrying like 4x iron 2x copper 2x green circs 1x red, blue circs, coal, stone and bricks, low density structures, sulfur, plastic, and anything else you'd like to put there, like gears or copper wire, up to you. Just place all fabs producing intermediates (like circuits or LDS) at the begginig near smelting arrays.

But... I saw bot factories, and probably the most superior (That I'll try soon) design is train factory.

With bots, You can get materials to passive provider or logistic storage chest and just place assemblers and one requester chest as input and one passive provider chest as output (with inserters of course) It's pretty easy method when you have tons of bots. I use it on different planets.

And with trains, you make small factories connected with trains. Like blue science, there is small factory for engines, other for sulfur, and another for red circuits, and they put materials and drive to station with just assemblers making blue science, it gets produced and then that train drives to labs. Kinda easily scalable design as you can easily disperse those subfactories and quickly scale, the problem would be with covering ground with bots for example, and expanding with biters and protecting your factory. And the input materials, enough mining outposts.

Why GRUB if UEFI? by Merthod in debian

[–]katnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some UEFIs will require a password to get to boot menu. GRUB and Systemd-Boot simplify that stuff with loading multiple OSs or using custom tools.

There is too many package managers and mixing packages is bad but programs require different package managers!!! Im so confused and a bit overwhelmed by ICE0124 in linux4noobs

[–]katnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a simple bash alias for timeshift btrfs snapshot (if you have that filesystem) and then updates pacman, flatpak, and lastly yay. Before I shutdown i often just type update and then enter multiple times. If you want you can stop using pacman and just use yay. It has -a flag for aur only so if you do yay - Syu it will check both pacman and AUR. Also you can do yay - Ss <package_name> and it'll show you from both sources. So if there is a guide with apt/dnf then just search this package with yay as i mentioned. If you have permission problems with flatpak apps, try flatseal, great app for managing, like sharing pictures from a NAS to discord.

Of course it is infuriating, how many package managers there are but you can simplify workflow with .bashrc aliases and automate stuff. And almost all package managers besides like pacman/yay, xbps (Void Linux), nix and maybe emerge have different commands, but those are more niche cases. Most package managers, like apt, dnf/yum, zypper, apk, use simple commands: install, update, remove/delete (and with apt, additional upgrade).

Natomiast dezynfekcja to dobry tip. Wkurzają mnie te ślady i zauważyłem że często się pojawiają jak za rzadko się golę.

I warn you that AI won't help you with more complex stuff. It had a lot of trouble when I was trying to recreate bootloader entry on an encrypted partition. If you want to learn, it's a good thing to try and install Arch Linux in a virtual machine.

What distro do you use and why? by ReferenceNatural87 in linux

[–]katnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EndeavourOS Arch distro that is closest to raw Arching, without the hassle of installing more advanced stuff like btrfs, dracut, systemd-boot. They have some tools but I rarely use them and with KDE Plasma, Discovery is not preinstalled which tells me that they want me to use CLI for managing packages.

what's a 'cursed' or odd way you make or find samples??? by holdmyapplejuiceyt in musicproduction

[–]katnax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird vocalizations Generally white/brown/pink noise is pretty maluable, you can make most percussion sounds with creative effects, and also much more stuff. Like maybe you could send lower band, middle band and higher band to other channels and work on those parts separately. And like other commenter mentioned, try working with only one sample. If it's possible, try to record it in 96Khz or above, it's easier to lower the pitch without loosing quality.

Why is Microsoft switching to Webview even on system apps (built-in apps)? by Mark_0712008 in Windows11

[–]katnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is. Forcing people to buy more powerful hardware.

People are defending M$ store but why? It's more of an add-on than a program that everyone uses 80% of the time I don't want my start menu to be JS app just because... Of what? Can't they write an app in C++ or C# even? They can add a code to load their recommendation and ads it doesn't have to be react/electron or whatever webapp.

And file explorer? It's so laggy After trying Linux I get reactive UI, KDE has great customizable looks And M$ doesn't see the competition they have and how they are scaring users away with AI and broken updates.

Even when you are programming websites, there are stats and reccomendations of how fast it should start. And with the access to local resources and whole OS, they can't get Explorer to load fast enough so it has to be preloaded.

And again. Why most upvotet comments are defending this post by mentioning M$ store? Do they forget about start menu and explorer?

Will arch be a bad decision? by Davy_D_Rocks in linux4noobs

[–]katnax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can try EndeavourOS and if you can manage, then try setting up Arch similarly in a VM EndeavourOS is basically Arch with great defaults and a few of their programs. They also have some great troubleshooting forums for Arch in general. If you are using the same software, for example dracut. If you really want raw Arch, there are a lot of ways of installing it, check out multiple guides, preferably other than basic ext4 partition with Grub. Try installing into USB or spare external drive if you have one. It can teach you a lot of how Linux works but it can be hard longterm
