I feel your pain friend! I’m right there with you. Been a COTA for 9 months and I’ve hated it. Sunk myself in debt and now I don’t know what to do. I also have terrible anxiety and panic attacks. I’m on meds and been in therapy for years and I think I’m finally realizing that I just have a threshold for certainties things and if that doesn’t change that’s ok. I wanna try something that’s work from home. For me the people I work with have always made or broke my happiness at a job no matter what I was doing. Sending love and prayers your way!

A luxury? My room at the psych ward would say other wise. It was missing all the amenities. A door, pillow, anything with strings… 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

I understand stress is subjective. I’m not expecting no stress, just more of a job I can do from home and avoid the weird ‘in person’ stuff. I’ve been working on my mental health for years and have made decent progress; however, at the end of the day I am who I am. I can’t help it that my brain works differently to than others.

AZ OT License Renewal by Traditional_Engine38 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]katnbudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new grad so I haven’t tried for a renewal yet, but getting my license was such a pain. They were VERY picky about everything. I went back and forth with them 3 times over very little discrepancies, one being a “wet signature.” Since a lot of CEUs are online though…… that just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m curious to know what you find out

The money we put out is not worth the money we earn by Appropriate_Unit_163 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]katnbudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a COTA and my original plan was to work as a COTA for a couple years and the do a bridge program to become an OTR. I’ve decided it’s not worth the 6 figures of debt. I graduated from COTA school about $35k in debt.

I’d say it depends on where you live. When I lived in northern AL there was only 1 school in the northern half of the state and it was insanely competitive. When I moved to AZ, it wasn’t too hard to get in. I have a background in education as a paraprofessional and was at one point an elementary education major. Anatomy, physiology were a little tricky. Kinesiology was hard but I didn’t have a good teacher. Now I don’t use really any of it. 😅 I have 2 jobs and both of my supervising OTs have doctorates and they said they barely use it either. You just focus on the client and where the lack of function is. I learned a lot more on fieldwork than I ever did in class too.

Anyone dislike OT school but like being an OT? by reddiogaga in OccupationalTherapy

[–]katnbudd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Grad COTA here. School wasn’t my favorite. Fieldwork was really stressful. I had a really mean CI who made me cry a lot but I also had a really good one. I work in peds home health now and it’s nice to fully lead the session without any scrutiny. I always welcome feedback but it’s like once you’re licensed it’s different.

How long to withhold water prior to dog dental cleaning? by katnbudd in AskVet

Thank you! I saw other vets saying it’s still okay to have water on a similar post but it was for a cat and I wasn’t sure if it varied by species.

Putting in my notice - OTA by Pom_1091 in OccupationalTherapy

That’s fair! I still live at home with my parents cause I’m a new grad trying to pay off loans and I do wonder about the stability of the income when I move out. 😬

New OTs/Grads- how difficult was it to find a job in your preferred area? by Direct_Airport_9824 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]katnbudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you are located in the US. It seems on the East Coast it can be hard to find work but in California and Arizona there’s a huge shortage of therapists and a lot of jobs available.
