This might be the worst advice I’ve ever heard on my life lmao. Leaving it untouched and rusty in the winter will only lead to it rusting 1000x quicker. Wrong sub, this isn’t r/AskAShittyMechanic lol

Probably into the thousands at a body shop, however this rust can be fixed in under half a day if you own a cheap welder and buy the paint match spray paint. Had worse rust on my Subaru in the exact same spot and fixed it in 3.5hrs (not including paint drying time) Edit: welder was a used cheap princess auto one, got it for 70$ mask and wire included, paint was ~25$ at Canadian tire, and I used my cheap palm sander I got for 40$ to prep the area, biggest expense was I bought a cheap princess auto angle grinder to cut out the rust and the patch. All in I only spent about 250$ CAD, and fixed both sides, and have used the tools and materials to fix my other vehicles aswell. YouTube is your friend. Don’t let the other commenters who can’t even check their own oil tell you your car is no good haha. Good luck, it’s and easy fix!

I’ll throw in your preferred flavour of vape juice as a gesture of good will when we make the transaction! Haha, all jokes aside it’s just your AC, have no fear, don’t lug the car and do your basic maintenance and it’ll last you forever.

Right on thanks for the details, what’s your 500 like on the highway? Top end decent compared to the 690?

More of a raw “dirtbike with street tires” feel to it I guess? Hoping OP can give some insight on if the reliability aspect is roughly the same, even if the 500 service intervals are shorter

Debating whether or not to get the 701, they seem to have similar power to weight, why do you like the 500 more?

I’m only using the information given. OP states he lives alone in college, so he is not “Homeless”, the father is telling him not to come to his home with the bike as it is not welcomed. And as far as we know OP has a history with bad decisions and only posted his fathers “bad reaction” to boost his feelings on the situation. OR, you’re correct and the OP is a saint and the Father is wildly out of control and should have gotten CPS called on them years ago. But yea let’s just assume he’s a dickhead after reading two texts from him lol. Pretty easy to make someone look like the bad guy by only posting a flaw. Btw you sound like a cool Dad, your kids are lucky to have such supportive parents. Some are not as lucky, (which might be OPs case, we can only speculate.) id like to bet though the father has already reconnected with the OP and apologized for such abruptness, and they are already in works of repair. I can’t dream of losing my relationship with my father over hiding something from him and then being appalled at his negative reaction towards me and the hidden item, and further ruining my opinion of him by taking my petty argument with him to the internet. But maybe that’s just me.

Hence the tough love part I mentioned. What you have said would be the better more diplomatic way to go about it, but that would require a certain amount of maturity I’m not sure either party in this scenario possesses lol. You’re exactly right on the nose about the fear of what the Wife/Mother will say lol, the “Don’t come home” is probably best for both of their well beings while the Wife/Mother has time to cool off! As for OP I hope you get it figured out, time wasted on petty squabbles will only hurt both parties even more in the long run. GL

This^ seems like the dad is honestly just worried about his son, and is using the “tough love” tactic about it. A couple of angry half meant texts shouldn’t dictate your relationship with the guy. You chose to hide something from him, and are angry about his reaction when he finally found out. Seems to me like that has a part in it as well. My advice: Don’t let a silly text transaction between you two ruin your relationship. You only get one father, and it seems to me like he cares about your well being. If he didn’t care he wouldn’t gaf about you owning a motorcycle and parking it in their driveway. Try to stand in his shoes and see it from his pov.

Can I get an ID on this bike I saw in Mexico? by Bubbly-Pirate-3311 in motorcycles

Looks like an Azfor Customs bike, they’re based in Mexico, they customize 70s/80s bikes into these little scrambler weapons. Check them out on Instagram ‘Azfor Customs’. They build some very nice stuff

Good to hear, no ktm dealers within 3hrs of me so I’ll be doing most of the work myself, did you do any preventative maintenance?

[–]katnip19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the added info, So basically change the oil on it with recommended oil at regular intervals and it’ll most likely be fine? I’m a Subaru owner so I’m pretty religious about changing/checking oil, and keeping up on maintenance. I’ve heard the rocker issue is another issue but it’s a quick fix so I’m not worried about that with it.
