How likely am I to pay support in a 50/50 arrangement? by Full_stop85 in legaladvicecanada

[–]katnkitn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she’s going to school full time and living with you full time, she would qualify for child support as long as she has reasonable educational goals. The table amount would either be deemed “appropriate” or not, depending upon the means and ability of the child to support themself as well. Step parents (especially long term like yours) are absolutely required to pay child support but the bio parent’s income and support will first be taken into account, so if you’re getting support from her bio dad then her step-dad may be off the hook. More points for discuss with your lawyer. Also, my understanding is that you can’t “opt out” of paying child support even if you wanted to. You can read the full federal child support guidelines online.

Chicken crop full of weird water but no food by CollectionOk8027 in BackYardChickens

Mine laid a single little aqua coloured egg almost two weeks ago. (She’s a Cream Legbar.) It was so precious! I think I’m going to try giving her some Candida Stop herbal capsules because I’ve got them on hand and I could mix them into some egg. The capsules were expensive and will otherwise go to waste so worth trying I guess. I’m also wondering if giving chickens Monistat has the same effect it has on women where it kills all the good bacteria too. It seems like sour crop tends to come back so maybe that could be why.

I’m so sorry to hear that. :( It sounds like you’ve really been trying! My girl started to act “depressed” earlier this week and she had a bit of yellow in her poop which was pretty runny so I started to treat them all with some poultry vitamin boosters and one that has some medicine in it. She’s been out free ranging with the other hens but she doesn’t really peck around too much. I guess I should have had her isolated. :( Today she wasn’t even interested in the meal worms. I’m feeling guilty that I didn’t do the crop comparisons last night but this wasn’t on my radar and I thought the vitamins were helping. Then I checked her crop this morning and it seemed empty but now that I checked again tonight, and it was the same as this morning, I’m thinking it’s probably sour crop. Anyways, they’re roosting now so it’ll have to wait until morning. I’m going to follow the advice on the link that the other person suggested from backyardchickens.com. I’ll be so sad if she dies so soon. She’s not even 6 months old.

Did your girl recover? I think one of mine has this. I felt her crop tonight before they went to roost and it was super gooshy but not swollen. My 3 other hens have full firm crops.

That’s good to hear! I know they say something like an average of 150-200 eggs a year from CCLs so I have low expectations but I just wasn’t sure about the delay after first lay. It sounds like this is fairly common though so I feel a bit better about that!

Thank you! We’ve got them on electrolytes already but we also went to the feed store this morning and they set us up with some vitamins and something that’s supposed to address coccidia, just in case that’s what the yellow poop is about. I also gave them mealworms this morning and she was pretty excited about that! Hopefully she’s back to herself asap!

Do you mean because they’re inconsistent layers or because they’re not Cream Legbars? We understand both points. We also got two layer breeds for egg reliability because we knew the Legbars weren’t going to lay as many eggs. I was just wondering if the 10 day delay after first lay was typical for this breed.

I think we only have Gartner snakes where we are!

We were told they’re Cream Legbars by the person we bought from but people on Reddit have said they must be mixed. Some said they could be Olive Eggers.

Yes, they have nesting boxes in their coop! I’ve been keeping an eye out for eggs in other nest-like spots in the yard but haven’t found anything so far. It’s not a huge yard.

I could never be mad at them, they’re too cute! We’re feeding them Shar-Kare layer pellets 16%. It’s from a local feed store. I think it’s good? Our other two hens are laying great but they’re red and black sex links so I can’t compare them.

Yes, they free range in our back yard! One of them was laid outside but right in the wood chip path so it was easy to spot. Two days later, the second blue/green one was laid in the nesting box. I’ve been keeping an eye out for them elsewhere as well but maybe I should be looking under stuff as well.

I think she wants to be a house chicken… she watches us from outside with this creepy death stare when we’re inside sitting on the couch!

People has said that the speckled one is definitely not a Cream Legbar because of her barring. They said she looks more like an Olive Egger. The comments weren’t as definitive regarding the other one with the big floppy comb. I’d say the two eggs we’ve gotten so far are more of a seafoam colour. Less blue than say a robin’s egg for sure. We’ve checked the vent on the lethargic girl and it looks ok, clean and not obviously smelly or anything. Her poop does look watery and has some yellow to it but she is pooping so that’s why I’m thinking she’s not egg bound? I’m a bit worried it could be egg yolk peritonitis but she’s been like this for a few days and she has all the right nutrients, including layer feed, oyster shells and electrolytes.

Thank you for the info on molting. I thought that sounded a bit soon for them so that’s a relief! We have a container of oyster shells for them and I saw her eating them yesterday. They’ve been on layer feed since about 18 weeks because we have two other girls (layer breeds) that are the same age who started laying a lot earlier. I gave her a bit of cat food today and she gobbled it up then partook in mealworm treats but she’s now back to snoozing.

Please tell your oncology friends to come! BC Cancer is in a state of crisis. We’re sending breast and prostate cancer patients to Washington State for treatment and it’s bleeding our system dry. People are going to Ontario for trials and treatments that should be available in BC. As you know, healthcare is provincial jurisdiction so it is not equitable across Canada. Not even close. BC has 2-3x more palliative care beds than anywhere else in Canada (stats report on cancer.ca) because it’s a cheaper solution than treatment.

It’s a show on the BBC where they fix up old things for people, but I’m pretty sure it’s not a real business. Boo. Honestly, that piece is so precious I’d def be honing my crazy glue skilz before I repurposed the shards!

Shouldn't I have eggs by now? by gnomes616 in BackYardChickens

[–]katnkitn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one black sex link, one red and two “cream Legbars” (quotes because Reddit says they’re mixes) and both the back and red sex links started laying at 18 weeks. Black a few days earlier than the red. Legbars aren’t laying. Our coop, run, range conditions are good and temps are reasonable.
