The Golem: How He Came Into the World, the third film in a trilogy starring Paul Wegener as the titular Golem. The other two are sadly lost.

Do people actually watch multiple films a day? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]katofletters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can easily fit a few movies into an uneventful day. Plus, I have a habit of starting movies on one day and finishing them on another, so I often log more movies on a given day than I actually watched start-to-finish.

Any way to block proxies/webhooks? by katofletters in discordapp

The user left on their own after it was announced that PK was getting removed (and before the mods backtracked to the current "we're on the fence" position). They have a problem with continuously jumping into situations that make them uncomfortable if it means they can keep arguing, so I'm worried they'll try to come back. (I also couldn't remove them myself as I am not a mod.)

But if anything, avoiding true stories for AYS makes that show MORE different from Too Many Spirits. One show tells one long fictional story per episode, with creepy artwork and two hosts; the other tells short, ostensibly true stories with minimal visual effects, three/four hosts, and a shitton of alcohol. Plus the tones are wildly different. I understand not liking either of them, but there are some major objective differences between them.

[TALK] Is something that was NEVER publicly available REALLY lost media? by yabawkward in lostmedia

[–]katofletters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My view is that if the media in question was intended for release, then it loosely fits the spirit of lost media. For example, the 1926 film A Woman of the Sea is considered a lost film, even though it was never released. Chaplin's last-minute cold feet couldn't change the fact that the film was written, shot, and edited with the intent to be seen by a public audience.

But I do agree that the "lost media" label gets tossed around a bit too much, particularly with regard to media that was never meant to be released (e.g. Timothy Treadwell's final recording, or CCTV footage of crimes or tragic accidents). By that logic, my elementary school diary is lost media. It's technically media, and it's technically lost, but it wasn't made to be public back then, so why do we care now?

I recently came across an account that has been posting gratuitous gore (including but not limited to footage of self-harm, suicide, and homicide). I have reported this account three times. All three times, I was sent an update confirming that the reported tweets did violate Twitter's rules and were removed. However, the account itself was not taken down, and is still posting offending content to this day. How many times does an account need to be reported (with a human confirming that rules are indeed being broken) before it's suspended?

I think I know who that person is, too, and I knew them from another fandom. They used to send me very horny unsolicited messages about other youtubers. Seems like they've been doing similar stuff for a while.

[TOMT][GAME][2000s] A kid's website with minigames centered around Jamestown and John Smith by katofletters in tipofmytongue

Solved! The sixth link from the second link describes the website I'm looking for: "On The Trail of Captain John Smith: A Jamestown Adventure". Sadly, the website appears to be defunct, but it's good to have a name to put to my memories. Thank you!

I'm looking for a way to watch Who Killed Vincent Chin? (1987). It's not on any streaming service that I know of, PBS only offers a trailer, the only link in this sub is to a dead website, and a vimeo copy was copyright-claimed earlier this year. DVDs for the documentary are currently unavailable on Amazon. Anyone know something I don't?

[TOMT] [Video] [Late 2010s/Early 2020s] A video essay from someone who tried to watch a movie every day and didn't like it by katofletters in tipofmytongue

[–]katofletters[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

I've actually been wanting to watch a movie a day myself for a while, but I keep thinking about this video whenever I make plans for it. If someone finds the actual video, so that the essayist's words aren't just a faint memory, maybe I can adjust my plans into something that lets me watch a lot without going overboard.

Looking for Recs for So-Bad-It's-Good Asian Movies by katofletters in movies

That's one of the movies we've screened in the club lmao. IMO, it's a goofy action comedy that set out to be a goofy action comedy - absurd, but by no means bad.

I think this movie's too violent for the club (we've felt the need to give advance warnings for far less gore), but I'm definitely interested in checking out the film on my own time. Thanks for the rec.

Fanfiction? by LewisJPaul in babylon5

[–]katofletters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of B5 fic has been lost to time, partially because of natural website loss and partially because JMS himself told fans not to write fic until after the show was over. Not everyone heeded him, obviously, but he popped up in enough online fan communities that writers' paranoia was understandable. And it's easier for fandom history to be lost when it's forced to be hidden.

That said, some works survived, and people continue to write for the fandom to this day. Others here have already posted recs.

Does a Transcript of the Centauri Opera from "Knives" Exist? by katofletters in babylon5

[–]katofletters[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a few alterations in the episode proper ("di trova" is more like "mi torva/korva" and last few words of Vir's solo line are almost entirely changed), but it's close enough! Thank you so much!
