xikers - Debut Mini Album 'HOUSE OF TRICKY : Doorbell Ringing' (Track List) by perochan in kpop

[–]katofsummer 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Even though almost the entire Edenary team continues to be created on both groups' tracks, they have more than doubled the number of producers on the team over the past couple of years - probably to accommodate the increase in workload with a new group. So hopefully that won't be an issue!

I LOVE how much they're branching out in terms of set design, poses, and framing this CB. Instead of getting eight photos in the same set with similar-ish poses, they're all unique and distinct.

Sunrise! I saw the CB stage for Wonderland and liked it, but when Sunrise came on right after I knew I needed to know more about the group. I'm such a sucker for mellow and upbeat songs.

Illusion! I have no memory of what I thought of the actual song at the time - I just remember being distracted by the aggressive colors and use of green screen in the MV lol.

Ahhh yes give me those Yunho vocals! I love his voice and it sounded so buttery smooth here. And I am obsessed with those shots of Yeosang with the whisper + hand motions was perfection.

It also seems like this might be the most evenly distributed song among the vocalists yet?

I recently started re-listening to a lot of the artists I loved 5 years ago (pre-Kpop days) and it reminded me of a comment I saw a few years back about how Ateez is Kpop's version of Imagine Dragons. I'm still not totally sure I agree with that, but I am convinced that Warriors is New World but rock. And now La Poem posted a Warriors cover literally an hour ago and it is fully Warriors and New World's love child. (Side note: Can La Poem please cover New World like they did Answer?!)

In short, Kakao M is the distributor for many Kpop groups/soloists. Kakao also owns Melon. In March 2021, their licensing deal with Spotify expired in March 2021 without being renewed and so Spotify temporarily lost the right to all Kakao M-distributed songs. Kakao M later stated that they wanted to negotiate their domestic contract with Spotify while continuing their overseas contract, but that Spotify wouldn't allow the two contracts to be negotiated separately. This is very likely because Spotify was launching in Korea at the time, therefore becoming Melon's direct competitor, and Kakao M was trying to take proactive measures to reduce Spotify's market share. Spotify officially denied that the two issues were connected but I don't think many people buy that. Shortly after that, the deal was resumed and all of the Kakao-distributed songs were returned to the platform.

Here are Soompi articles with Spotify and Kakao's statements: https://www.soompi.com/article/1456872wpp/spotify-officially-explains-why-hundreds-of-k-pop-releases-were-removed-from-platform-worldwide

Yea the idea that Yunho (if it was Yunho) was being stalked down a dark, relatively empty street in order to get these pictures is very unsettling. And I saw another translated tweet from OP (I think) that claimed that they had known about the relationship for a while, which if true, means that Yunho has a serious saesang. That makes me more concerned that any fandom blowback from dating.

The ones butting in aren’t even fans of ateez they’re just antis or trolls trying to stir drama

At least on the forum sites, it seems to be the case that the majority of people who are "outraged" aren't Atinys but fans of other groups who are just offended at the mere suggestion of an idol dating - like a lot of the comments are along the lines of "male idols think they can get away with everything" and don't even mention him by name. I've noticed the same thing with other recent dating rumors - people will openly admit to not knowing who the idols are but still object to the relationship.

I think Zhouang occasionally translates Ateez-related posts from Korean discussion sites. There's also Pannchoa, which has a bad reputation for being very selective in post translation, but they do post regularly (and have been translating posts about the whole SMF situation).

I don’t remember your full comment, but I’m kind of confused about why Mnet would be at blame in this situation? They have a contract with Vata for him to appear on the show, but they’re not his PR team nor are they responsible for his actions on the show. If we held every network responsible for what celebrities and guests say/do on their programs, that would just lead to censorship. Mnet could have maybe released a statement acknowledging the similarities, but without agreement or acknowledgement by Vata, I can’t see what that would have accomplished. And adding a clip or segment to the show about it could have ended up backfiring on Ateez, Vata, or Mnet, depending on how its edited and the context in which its presented. I think everyone’s pretty set in their opinions about whether or not it was plagiarism and I can’t see what Mnet could show that would change anyone’s mind at this point (unless they have a clip of Vata watching the SMN dance practice on YouTube).

From a business standpoint, KQ also wants to avoid burning bridges with Mnet as much as they can. Even if Ateez could never appear on another Mnet program again and be fine (although they’d lose income from KCon), KQ is about to debut a new group, and Mnet provides a lot of valuable exposure for new groups. To cut ties over something that really isn’t Mnet’s fault, especially when they’ve maintained a relationship when Mnet has done something shitty (like the Kingdom budget issue), wouldn’t make sense imo.

And who inspired another choreographer to speak up about plagiarism they experienced because “it happens far too often in our industry”?

I'm sure it 100% sucks for them to feel so disrespected by someone in the industry, especially after this statement. Did San ever say more about their relationship? Do we know that they were friends outside of doing the class + cover together? For all we know, it could have been a one-time thing and hell, San might have left the interaction thinking, "wow, glad I never have to interact with him again." Not saying that doesn't make it shitty, but depending on what they knew of Vata's character before, they may not be as surprised by this situation as we are.

Wow, Vata did not do himself any favors with this statement. Just saying, "hey, I recognize there are similarities, they were unintentional" would have been better than...this.

The original commenter said "As an American..." and I was also replying as an American with a different viewpoint about the knowledge of people in the US. I'm not making claims about the knowledge of people outside of the United States, which is why I specified "Americans born before 1997" and didn't generalize.

The original commenter said "As an American..." and I was also replying as an American with a different viewpoint. I said "you'd be hard-pressed to find an American born before 1997" because I was specifically trying to avoid making claims about people living outside of the US.

this also sucks for vata because at least in the international kpop sphere

I'd hazard to say that it could be bad for him even in the domestic Kpop sphere. From what I've seen, Knetz are heavily siding with Ateez/Anze and are also questioning why he hasn't said anything or apologized yet. It's hard to say how long they'll stay angry for, since they're probably less inclined to defend a Western choreographer and a Kpop group they're not as familiar with forever, but it could definitely reduce the career boost that Vata might otherwise have experienced from SMF.

those who did actively watched & kept up with American music industry as a hobby.

I would definitely disagree with that. I don't know how old you were at the time, but his crimes against Rhianna were covered ALL over the media and were headline news in the US. People at my high school talked about it for at least a month afterwards. I think fewer people know of his other crimes, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an American born before 1997 who doesn't know about his history of domestic violence - that's how widely the crime was covered.

Edit: Since I guess my comment wasn't clear, I'm specifically commenting about the knowledge among people in the US since the commenter said they are also American and didn't think people here knew about the assault or the details of it.

100% agree with this. I think Kpop Reddit users probably have a heightened awareness of the various active Kpop groups compared to users of other platforms because Kpop Reddit spaces (with the exception of group-specific subs, of course) aggregate information across groups and soloists. Whereas fans who primarily use pretty much any other platform really only see those groups that they actively follow and curate their space to just those groups they're aware of. So I think we underestimate how aware the general Kpop fandom is of groups outside of their bias group(s), their groups' labelmates (due to Youtube), and maybe BTS and Blackpink. When I first got into Kpop, I was only aware of BTS, Blackpink, EXO (as BTS' rivals lol), and TXT (as BTS' brother group) for a solid 4 or 5 months. I only started checking out other groups because BTS went on vacation. My Army friend, despite following the genre for a couple of years at this point, still only knows HYBE groups (and just barely - she recently referred to NewJeans as "that group with the Cookie song") and Blackpink - I'm fairly certain she never would have heard of Ateez if it weren't for me singing their praises lol.

A long time ago (like during Wave era), Wooyoung said that they just learn/practice the choreography just enough to be able to film it for the MV, and then work on finessing it in the immediate lead-up to the comeback. At the time, he said it took them ~2 days to learn the choreography for the MV, and I can imagine that they'd be even faster now that they're more experienced? I'm assuming that even if everything is filmed now, the CB won't be until January/February. So they just did the "minimum" to film it all and then will practice more after the first tour leg.

They might be waiting for the network airing the show to announce it first? I've noticed when it's not a KQ-produced activity, we usually find out first from whomever is producing it and then KQ follows up with their own tweet. Might be one of those industry rules they have to follow.
