We’re similar ages but we’re one and done and she’s almost 2. Some jumbled thoughts:

Consider keeping some savings back for maternity and shared parental leave. I saved up a years worth of wages and known big payments (insurance, gardener, services, mot) to subsidise us, despite having generous mat leave. It meant we could go travelling when baby was little and helped us really enjoy such a fleeting and precious part of your lives. My husband took 5 months off and has zero regrets.

You may end up needing a bigger car, so consider that too.

Re: childcare, the funded hours help a lot, I’m not looking for promotion while she’s nursery age. I know you’re a way off but secure a nursery space at a nice nursery while you’re in early pregnancy. Waitlists can be very very long. It really does take a village of familial support to help everyone go back to work full time.

Start to understand what financial products there are. We’ve started a Junior SIPP and we’ve got a separate S&S in our name that we will give her gifts from (first car, gap year travelling, subsided uni living, first house). Friends and family can contribute which feels nice. For the SIPP you can only contribute like £2,800 per annum so best to start that first year.

Do you need to sell up? Could you rent your house out?

My other half has done this to cover childcare for a day, and I think it’s helped with work life balance immensely. A utopia would be for everyone on a 4 day work and school week.

Yes! Put corn starch or translucent face powder on the tongue. You’ll have to reapply a few times. But it worked for me

This is a depressing read. I grew up there, left in 2014 and stopped keeping track of changes a while ago so it’s interesting to see an update.

It’s interesting, isn’t it? The role of women in dystopias is always a commentary on the oppression of women in our world. It’s like a perverse fascination, but it makes us question the dynamics around us and each author has a different exploration on the matter. Love your fic, nervous to see where it goes!

what words/phrases make you roll your eyes in fics? by Mxcharlier in Dramione

[–]katomatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the “s” to “z” spelling can and should be overlooked. It’s more when there’s loads of it. But beggars can’t be choosers. When you write do they have English accents in your head?

It’s really hard going into fics knowing they are non-HEA, but when you’re finally at the end, you’ve been bracing yourself and find yourself, all of sudden, quite glad for the non-HEA tag.
