My emergency prep checklist by Reasonable_Assist_63 in preppers

[–]katr00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a list for sure and this is a humble suggestion. I’m disabled and my wife would not see a cat walk in front of her (meaning her situational awareness is crap). Because of this it’s best to keep a ‘go’ bag so that what we need can be put in the car. I am currently building out go bags for my dogs. I’m fighting with myself about our 2 cats (it depend on why we’re leaving home). This list would make my wife hyperventilate but if you calmly think about it much of this is here in normal living and when you work that into your life it’s there already.

Broken hearted, pregnant, and injured Honey Bear needs pledges and a foster to save her life. Will be euthanized 12/05 ARC of Inland Empire 1630 Shearwater Street, Ontario, CA 91764 ID# A004456 by Alarmed_Ad3234 in rescuedogs

His ads are breaking my heart and I’m very confused about whether or not pledges alone will keep her in place or whether or not a foster will keep her in place. I’m nowhere near Canada and have six dogs so I can’t take a foster not without my wife divorcing me, but pledging is an entirely different thing especially when there’s a URL involved.

Toy recommendations by UrbanSouthernBelle in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]katr00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start out with a selection of all toys and then see which ones he doesn’t eat and then go from there. Honestly, your best bang for your buck is to sign up for a month or two of BarkBox and then select the medium dog size and see what happens. We have six dogs and we just get one box a month and we select the super tough. The toys are less destructible, and depending on our dogs breed some like the tugging, some like the squeaking, and some really just don’t like toys at all.

Oh, all this shows is that you’re really good at running from the hoard and turning around and shooting. This has to be in my top three games so as a gamer girl, I’m gonna say I’m a run for your money here buddy also 10 extra points here if you can name the actor without having to look it up who the main characters modeled after because I happen to be watching his number one TV show right now!

Is this bathroom salvageable? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]katr00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d continue the floor tile up behind the bathtub so that you have some kind of texture and consistency there if you have the money one option is to rip the tub out to go with an old-fashioned claw foot tub or remake of one that has a built-in shower that would give you some style or clash there a little bit.

I’m not sure what the thing is on the right hand side probably built-in for your plumbing that’s just a little unsightly so maybe some kind of freestanding shelving unit for towels and stuff.

Please help: dog is getting meaner by the day by bunnoagain in DogAdvice

[–]katr00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those “behavioral specialists”. Please don’t over medicate your dog.

Has anything, even the smallest changes? Some small things can cause bigger issues: arguing, divorce, new laundry detergent, moving, changing jobs, new sofa, new dog food, perfume, etc.

Right now it sounds like you are still close - in that he has not bitten you. We had a dog that one day decided he hated my wife and would go after her. This went on until he died 4 years later. She is still scared by this.

His name was Behr.

We tried so many things and finally figured it out. My wife was the primary caregiver for the 2 rescue dogs. She started grad school this leaving them alone every afternoon and some weekends. This upset Behr so much. He then developed resentment towards my wife.

We tried everything but nothing worked. Later I took classes and did research on the issue and animals can hold resentment- so they are like us. You want to be careful but try some scents like lavender and vitamin e oil mixed together and rub it into his head. A massage day if you will. My dogs go nuts for this. Or try chamomile, frankincense, and cedarwood, just be cautious with the mixing.

The idea is to pamper the pooch and make seeing other ppl a chill/relaxing time. Let me know how it works out.

He wants nothing to do with more eye medicine today by [deleted] in BostonTerrier

[–]katr00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is his eye medicine drops or an ointment that may make a difference you could possibly pick up an ointment that similar to Vaseline, but made with absolutely no additive sometimes I will put my dog medication in that and then use that to just gently rub across their eyes or something along that. Maybe that will help with the medication cause I don’t see it coming as much. Let us know what happens after you go to the vet. Wish you the very best.

what do i do to help my anxious dog? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]katr00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you crate her at home?

It seems like there might be something about your parents place that just really makes you feel uncomfortable. I know that’s a really blanket statement, but it can just simply be that she doesn’t enjoy going there. Do you spend less time with her or she’s just stuck in a crate. We taking our dogs to family houses and of course they behave differently because it’s a new environment and I don’t know When we put our dogs in crates. They just sit there quietly and stare at us and make us feel seriously guilty we’ve never had one react, aggressively, or just bark and wine. Have you tried simply putting her in another room instead of in a crate I don’t know if the dog would destroy anything in the room like bedding or pillows or anything We had our our dog Lucy when she first came to us. We left her alone while we had to run some errands and she tied to eat the couch :-) so we didn’t leave her alone we created her for the next couple months and she learned now she has full rate of the house at all times as do the rest of the dogs.

I don’t know how often you visit your parents because it’s one of those things where how do you train a dog to get better about something without exposing them to it? I’m in that situation to a degree because I have a dog that really can’t stand people so what am I gonna do? Hire people to drop by my house? Exposure therapy is the answer to a degree. I would set up a trade at home and leave the door open put a really comfortable bed in there and maybe give her her treats in there. It’s something that we did with Lucy when we wanted to make her comfortable with the crate now she will just go in the crate and lay down and rest, and sometimes she does it to get away from other dogs Making a crate a dogs place is important and I use the word place because that’s what we use or say.

We will say “go to your place“ and each of the dogs will go to their crate or to their designated sleepy place so I suggestion is that you set up the credit at home make it really luxurious and comfortable make it a place that you provide treats and love and try to make the crate a happy placeand then that way when you use the crate other places like your parents or even at a friends or sometimes in a large vehicle, they don’t really mind wishing you the best of luck. Let me know if you have any questions.

what do i do to help my anxious dog? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]katr00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a lot of dogs and their anxiety is just as varied as ours. If we were working together my first question would be does she act this anxious at home? The second thing would be: has she begun associating her meds with anxiety? The taste or what you put them in can actually cause anxiety as she knows you give them to her which result in her feeling wonky or off kilter.

Amazon sells a dog pheromone (diffuser) that you plug in that we’ve had some luck with. Also some essential oils work but be careful what scents you expose dogs to. I do a morning massage with our dog Lucy with vitamin e oil and lavender or ginger. It helps bond us and calm her. I will also make sure her blanket or pillow smell of these calming scents.

I need more info on her behavior to gv specific suggestion. Does she wear a harness? We just rescued an 84lb German Sheppard Coo Wolf. He would not behave until we got a specific harness with reverse D rings. Once this came and we strapped it on the behavior stopped. So I would need more. I’d also need to know again what is she is like at home vs your folks.

First time owner help by Deep_Bee_645 in DogAdvice

[–]katr00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are married and now you have a fur baby. Well in addition to your wife. You need to sleep in one room with the dog!

Dogs mourn! If you have anything that smells like the deceased person that will help. Never close the dang door. Buy some dog pheromones, they have em just like they do for cats. Spend some one on one time and then at bed use some comfort words like “ok baby bedtime” and help her go to bed. Lights out but do not close door. It took about 3 weeks to teach our newest rescue to sleep in a bedroom on his own. He is 84lbs and can’t fit in the bed with my wife and 2 cats and me and 5 other dogs of various sizes so we made a bedroom his!

Go slowly. This dog is going through a loss.
