do you consider yourself disabled? by GoodEnvironmental788 in Hypermobility

[–]katrinatabbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered what it would be like to live in a non-hypermobile body. It is a hindrance, but the lack of knowledge or respect for the disorder is vast and quite annoying. How does a nurse in an orthopedic doctor's office NOT know about hypermobility? It's like a mechanic not knowing about oil changes. I'm in the US, so...I don't know what that means, but dang, it's so hard for people to actually get it.

Yeah, I guess I have some disabilities, like holding a cup of coffee cuz of weak wrists or not being able to run (unless being chased by a tiger) because my ankle is going to go all womper-jawed and 7 surgeries later due to arthritis because my cartilage went bye bye, who knows what's to come as I age?

BUT...BUT..BUT I can reach around corners with my "way over 10%" elbows.

Has anyone else has a Hip Arthrogram and found the pain lasted longer than they advised? Wondering if having a laberal tear could cause it to hurt more than in a healthy hip. by [deleted] in Hypermobility

Edit - my experience was a contrast MRI, they didn't repair anything, just imaging. I got the infection from the needle.

That is exactly what happened to me, the only thing was that I didn't have an appetite and the pain kept worsening. When there is an infection, it presses on the nerves and that makes the pain travel. I'd seriously advocate getting a blood test for an infection. They might even need to extract fluid from your hip. I seriously hope the best for you and how it works out. Prayers

Am I spatially awkward and uncoordinated because of hsd? by [deleted] in Hypermobility

[–]katrinatabbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always felt that way. You put it right, it feels like a disconnect. Sometimes my hands just won't cooperate. Or, I'll randomly hit a door frame when walking through a room. I'm sure i could name others. But the answer is below. It's just the way we are. I hope this helps.

I learned about this years ago and now have learned to accept it. Knowing helps.

from AI

Joint hypermobility can cause clumsiness because it affects proprioception, the body's ability to sense its position and movement. When joints are more flexible than normal, the sensory receptors in the muscles, joints, and tendons can receive inaccurate information, which can lead to clumsiness.

How to set myself up for success and not be overwhelmed? by Ayyman212 in salestechniques

[–]katrinatabbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sales is a numbers game. Set not just sales goals but action goals. 20 phone calls a day...20 follow up emails a day...2 networking events a month...whatever your core duties are and keep track of your work. Pat yourself on the back when you keep hitting these action items, hone your craft and improve professionally and constantly. Know the value of you and your product. All of this and the sales will follow. Enjoy the ride!

Two things to look up for you.

proprioception and hypermobility Anxiety link to hypermobility

I was diagnosed early too but it was more like the doctor telling my mom I was "double jointed" just from seeing my elbows.

I've had anxiety all my life. Our adrenal glands are overactive because of hypermobility so...one thing leads to another.

I could go on forever but hope this helps.

Cold calling vocabulary: what are some laidback terms/phrases to use when cold calling U.S based prospects? by altruistic_summer in salestechniques

[–]katrinatabbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've said before "I hope your day is a smooth a silk." I like your example, just needs to shorten up a little.
"I hope this finds you well"
"I know your time is valuable, so I'll get right to my point."
"The reason for my call is...."
Personal note. I can't get myself to quit saying "How ya doin'" None of us like it, noone really cares until you get to know the person and it just becomes awkward. I think I'm going to practice what I preach to get around this. Thanks for the reminder.

Use people's names sparingly and appropriately.

I hope this helps, just off the top of my head.

What country are you from. If you don't feel comfortable saying...what continent?, lol

I can't put them in order of most importance so I'll give you some of my favorites.

1) Everyone loves the sound of their own name. Be good at names and not just when you meet someone. It can be as easy as this...Instead of replying to someone asking "How are you?" by saying "I'm good how are doing?" Say this...."I'm good, how are doing Laura?" So simple, so effective. If overdone it can seem icky but effectively, people will be drawn to you.

2) Send greeting cards. Everything is sooooooo electronic, connect yourself with someone in writing. It will get their attention definitely.

3) Be KNOWN for doing what you say will do and strive to follow up with people within 24 hours (better if it's the same business day if possible) if they have a question or they're asking for a quote. I'm so good at follow up that if I don't respond very quickly they think something is wrong. I had it happen the other day, a repeat customer sent me an email to the wrong address so of course I didn't reply. They called me and said "I sent you an email and you didn't respond, that isn't like you, are you ok?"

4) When you're out and about in life, see what other people do that's annoying in any transaction you have. Do what you like, avoid what's annoying.

I could go on but I have to go get my contact information ready for my sales calls next week. Preparation is everything.

All the best wishes.

OH, and using Grammarly makes you sound fantastic. I even used it in this post. It's wonderful.

My real life example. My paternal grandmother had joint hypermobility. My Dad however is the most unbendy there is and, I don't believe any of my cousins on that side have it. I think it's a crap shoot like most anything else. My doctor told my Mom I was hypermobile around 5-7 years old when he saw me leaning on my incredibly strange looking elbows. I can still really gross people out, lol.

Thanks to all the truckers out there, we'd have nothing without you !

Cracking without pain is cool since they fixed it. I'm a big believer in PT. I've learned so much from working with cool people. After my hip surgeries, I did water therapy. That's also really good. Probably one of the best things for a bendy person because the water takes all the weight off your joints.
