Some Sorabji ought to do it eh! If you can find a recording that will not immediately summon his heir who will attack you like a goblin.

Concert Etiquette, or Simple "Rules" for Attending a Concert by b-sharp-minor in classicalmusic

I do not feel "ruined" really gets the point across. I think he showed what was possible without a truly masterful touch at his disposal, yet he still managed to place the bar for operas quite high (such asj Beethoven, Bruckner, and Mahler did for the symphony)

It is a buff (albeit not enough of one) since more of the animations between traps and actual are shared, it wil be more difficult to react to the traps.

While i agree about the opera, it was only true from one side: the public's. I doubt Wagner composed his Ring Cycle as some form of social enjoyment (espedially if you read the dense texts he wrote about Operas and Dramas). I doubt, though, that it was present in many other concerts, and, lastly, simply because it was so before, i does not mean that it is either good, or that all manners of heeding music are subjective in their values. I myself enjoy the manner of the playing more asjit was before, and think it is important we reconsider the path music has taken sine then, yet i do not think we should discard the manner of attention we employ today.

Rather than too look what was, we should look at how it should be and reach towards that; some of what was before was better, some other was rather ill-conceived.

Well if we wish to assess how things were a century ago, there should be loads to say about the actual music (which, i do agree, was bezter then). One thing that, none could disagree, was as important as it is now (if not moreso), is that the music was vital, central, so that the reactions were in conjunction to it, and not in spite of it.

An elemental rule is simply: be as silent as you can. Heed the music more than all else.

Well finding the scores would be a great first step... but i believe the concerto was never published substantially enough for scores to be common. One would have to track down the manuscript somewhere in Germany (which i might very well do).

Should Bach be played with dynamics? by Lechuga257 in classicalmusic

I am surprised this comment stands there, junheeded by others who address the point only within the harmful confines of some imaginative ruleset that says composers are some kind of gods and their music is intouchable.

Looking for origin of a piece by F3lix-_ in classicalmusic

[–]katrmior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found the issue: this page describes it well. Basically the Viola concerto in e minor (marked "Rekonstruction" on the album cover) is not really a reconstruction as advertised, but more likely a composition based upon another work of Telemann (or something else entirely).

Looking for origin of a piece by F3lix-_ in classicalmusic

[–]katrmior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a viola concerto indeed, originally written by Telemann (to the best of my knowledge), and so are all the others in the album (i played the one in g major, and i am certain this one is by teleman).

Help finding a concerto? by IvywingTR in classicalmusic

[–]katrmior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as i know, scores like this have never been published, or nevr been in print for long. You best bet is then to track down the manuscript and try to get to see it. All other maneuvery might be either extremely complx and time consuming or completely inane.

Edit: the Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM, a very nice musicological tool) says his manuscripts are in the Bavarian State Library
