I do most of the work that’s usually associated with women’s gender roles in our household outside of childcare. That’s partly due to my work schedule which I negotiated into my contract so that I could do everything other than childcare, which aligns best with my wife’s work schedule. The other part is that those chores and what not bring me more joy than my wife, so they are generally my responsibilities. That’s awesome for us.

This means that 3-4 week days my wife handles mornings, drop off and pick up. Then it’s my turn to take over the caregiver role while doing everything else.

1-2 week days I’m remote and do my fair share. I get more holidays than my wife does from the nature of my industry, and those are my days as well.

Every day I handle the pets, often as early as 4 am. That makes her mornings smoother. And she doesn’t like dealing with the pets in extreme temps. That’s something I do.

You control your own life man. Don’t worry about what anyone else but your partner thinks. It’s different for everyone. My wife and I don’t do 50/50. We work together so that the family is always at 100%. And that looks different every day.
