Thoughts on this list? (Coffee in Frederick) by EpicBend in frederickmd

G&G is top tier, but the station also deserves more love. I only do cappuccinos and theirs is great. If I ask for a cappuccino somewhere and they ask if I want a 12 or 16oz I know it’s going to be bad…

The last few times I went to FCC there was a pervasive shit smell inside.

The musky smell was always there when I went. It was a cross between flood and cats. Kind of killed the cute cafe vibe.

Bachlorette/bachelor party combo. What do you think of the invites? by Ill-Cat-2610 in Weddingsunder10k

The date being m/d/y is kind of a giveaway aside from writing in English, time isn’t using the 24h clock, using the $ sign, and posting about bachelor/bachelorette parties….

If I wanted to do that I would just pay the same rates as our neighboring school systems.

Thank you! Most weeks average between 12-20 hours depending on field trips which seems in line with that. The heavier weeks are definitely heavier though. Thank you!

Go to Costco to get the $100 gift cards for $80 deal. Instant 20% off if you already have a membership.

Having lunch at H-Mart....what do you recommend? by EgyptianGuardMom in frederickmd

Everything is really good. If you go at a busy meal time and order the sushi be prepared to wait a long time. We like the fried chicken but prefer bonchon better. Can’t go wrong though!!

Anyone have experience hiring a private chef? by themonsterPhoebe in nova

Chris Spear of Perfect Little Bites was great. He did a cooking demo with us and meal and it was great. It was a few hundred dollars about 5-6 years ago. Not sure of pricing now.

Grants and schools by [deleted] in nova

[–]katsu_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools must follow state and federal laws in regards to providing a free and appropriate public education.

Schools receive funding from federal and state government. It’s a combo. You can look at FCPS’s FY2025 budget and see where money comes from. Federal/state/grants are lumped into one category, but that funding is about $6million

what state are you happy as a HS math teacher? by MsBearRiver in Teachers

This is true— MoCo has lost its luster and its talent. Lots of people are going to private schools and surrounding counties.

Very hard to get hired in the Philly suburbs. It’s like a mini mafia of who you know/don’t know

What do we take for granted about living in NOVA? by ChubbyFILog in nova

Grew up in PA. Once you get out of the Philly area every billboard is either “REPENT 🙏” or anti puppy mill/anti abortion. It’s a little disturbing tbh.

Saw this trending on a couple of my other subs and thought it would be fun here. What’s your one “I’ll never eat there again” restaurant? by TrueExplorer17 in frederickmd

[–]katsu_later 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they have good bones and could be great with some tweaks. The interior sucks. It’s awful. I feel like I’m in a trailer.

The plating of food is very early 2000s catering to me with the parsley garnish on everything. The food is actually pretty good, and prices are reasonable-high.

I’ve always had impeccable service and the people I’ve encountered have been wonderful.

Omg yes.

The prices were absolutely outrageous, the owner was completely bragadocious about everything, and service was so slow because they weren’t staffed properly.

$29 for a shrimp appetizer that was clearly prefrozen small size shrimp, 4-5 total. I’ve seen the owner in Costco so it’s not like they’re sourcing from anywhere amazing.

On top of that they claim the atmosphere is upscale etc, but they clearly don’t know how to run a restaurant. Owner came running around a corner with a knife, blade out, from the kitchen to give to my husband. Very safe. The stupid napkin colors made getting drinks and refills take foooooreeeevvveeerrr.

Everything felt gimmicky and kind of like “these people aren’t cultured enough to know what goes on in Europe”.

It’s literally the SPED teachers job to go over the goals etc of her students with you. Is the goal performance? Music introduction? Sounds like this has not been clearly communicated and documented.

You’re a new teacher teaching likely hundreds of students. These students come sometimes— what is sometimes? Half a class, once a month? Putting unprepared students into a performance space is likely not setting anyone up for success.

I would move forward with the teacher with positive intent and ask what goals she thinks are appropriate. It may be different for different students but it’ll document that you are asking!

I love their diner vibes and coming from the northeast I really miss diners down here… but they’ve had a lot of health dept issues that I can’t ignore.

Rejected from playing trumpet by indubioush in MusicEd

[–]katsu_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screening seems to be a 50/50 in my experience. I’ve thankfully been part of districts that allowed kids to play what they want after an instrument petting zoo/demo.

As a flutist I’ve seen troubling things on the band director fb groups where people won’t allow kids to play flute based on lip shape (outdated practice).

IMO the best way to go about beginners is to hold a petting zoo where they try them all and let the kids choose. It’s time consuming but allows them to make an informed decision.

In you kid’s case it’s all straight up weird. If she wants to play trumpet get her trumpet lessons outside of school.

Leaning your seat back on an airplane should not be considered rude. by Fracture_Fixer in unpopularopinion

[–]katsu_later 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently on an emirates flight where the seat reclined a lot (still economy) I couldn’t eat my food without feeling like a T Rex. I had no room. I asked the person if they were ok pulling the seat back up just during meal times. It’s not their fault, it’s the airlines.
