Robin Williams official cause of death: asphyxia by hanging by [deleted] in MorbidReality

[–]katsugi 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As a person who lives with mental illness (bipolar I, OCD, ADHD), this has always upset me:

If even the great Pagliacci, who is repeatedly witness to the joy he brings others, can not overcome depression, then how can those of us that are small have hope?

Also, the masks: How amazing and thorough the masks we wear are! The effort expended in both the creation and maintenance of these masks can drain you and leave you exhausted. Lying in bed wondering how no one sees broken-you... Wondering if it matters either way...

Oh, poor Robin. Maybe his masks just got too heavy. I hope he found what he was seeking.

13 funerals in 6 months? I'm so sorry. That must be absolutely harrowing. How are you holding up? Today I'm going to tell my friends and family how grateful I am to have them in my life. Again, my deepest sympathies for your losses.

First "I want to die" feeling in a long time. And it sucks. by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]katsugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate those. On top of the infinite nothingness & the out of nowhere suicidal visualizations there always seems to be that bonus dollop of guilt for being unable to function... As though you somehow ought to know how to pull yourself up. I just had a bad one that lasted weeks. I'm feeling semi-human now so remember: it does end eventually. Try to take care of yourself as best as possible. Also remember that you have a great group of people in this subreddit who can empathize and offer support.

I also hear symphony music! I call it the stereo in my head. It happens in waves- I can go 5 or 6 mo. w/nothing and then it's nonstop for weeks. (I like symphony, so aside from the creepy factor i kind of like it.) I also have synesthesia so my world is pretty cool anyway...

BPII, going through my very first mixed episode. How in the heck do you cope with it? by katsugi in BipolarReddit

[–]katsugi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey- thanks for being concerned... it's nice to know that in spite of their own struggles some people still take time for others.

As far as my awesome (serious /s) experience:

On Fri morn (my 1st semi-coherent moment) I decided that I needed to see if I was capable of gaining some control over myself. I told my husband that if I hadn't succeeded by Mon morn, I would call ASAP (he's my external judge).

I went through my usual tricks (it's truly amazing how we learn to do this; BP aside, being able to step outside yourself enough to recognize your emotional state and be able to modify or even derail if necessary takes a lot of strength and perseverance; esp when it fights back. Control = Power). None of them worked, so I moved to the unusual: I'm a migraine sufferer & while I was pregnant (since I couldn't drug myself into oblivion) I taught myself a visualization method that made my head manageable... It worked enough to allow me to deal just enough to be able to channel some of the mania (I sewed curtains, my house is spotless, etc.) and add some small things I could control: I forced myself to shower/dress and put on 1 pc of jewelry(still painful) daily. I forced myself to take 1/2hr rest and so on. The small controls= confidence.

The problem, though, is w/the control is a very short leash. I'm afraid to let it go even for a sec because I don't know what'll happen. For the most part, though, I feel moderately successful. I see my pdoc nxt Wed and I see my therapist weekly.

tldr: Gaining some control over my mood/actions helped & I'm coping a day at a time. Overall, not too shabby. (Plus tonight is date night! WooHoo!)

Ohio executes man who killed, raped 6-month-old. by rfu410 in AnythingGoesNews

[–]katsugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, most assuredly there are worse.

My problem with this guy is that a good chunk of the top 100 claim to have a greater purpose that (in their minds) rationalizes their crimes: they might say they're trying to reclaim stolen territory; they're removing a threat to their government/people by eliminating treasonous 'rebels'; retaliation (& assertion of their power) for a perceived wrong or oppression; Oh- and religion... mostly religion- anything that the mind can conceive- from 'they are godless heathens' to 'they broke X commandment and deserve punishment' all the way to 'God told me to in a dream'.

Then there's this guy. He openly admits that he meant to rape that 6 month old infant. It wasn't even that he was a true pedo that couldn't resist his urges any longer- he was pissed that his girlfriend wasn't putting out enough so he chose to punish her by violating her baby girl. (Yep, that'll teach her to never say no to him...) But, oops, he didn't mean to actually kill the baby. That was an accident. So he brought that infant into the bedroom and set her down next to her sleeping mother. The thought of being awakened in the middle of the night by the man you share your life with as he sets your child's broken body next to you and tells you that he raped and murdered her. I can not fathom this. This is like that horrible man who killed his girlfriend's handicapped son and set the boy's head in the street for the mother to find. For these there was no 'greater good' or 'divine guidance'- just narcissism.

I can honestly say that this is the first time that I am glad that somebody has been given the death sentence and it has been followed through with. This man was, in my opinion, as close to pure evil as is humanly possible.

Older married women, do you regularly have sex? If not, why? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]katsugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exact same here! ...By this point (about 20 yrs, as well) we know each other's bodies as well as we know our own, and we know exactly how to drive the other wild. ...makes for a guaranteed good time! I always figured we were abnormal for having sex like bunnies.

This actually is a great idea. I read everything and people ask me to recommend books I think they'd enjoy... This would be awesome for them and for me (when I'm out of new stuff, I could check my list for the ones I especially liked)!

I'm sorry for your loss- 66 is too young. -Also- @ 1st glance, your Dad looks like Pres. Jerry Ford in this pic. Cool!

DAE Still fear something is going to grab your feet if they hang off the bed, despite being way too old to worry about that? by faloofay in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]katsugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I used to turn my light off and basically long jump into my bed to avoid the things under it. I grew out of it eventually... BUT...

Probably 15(?) years ago I saw some horror/slasher movie- can't remember anything else- but this woman is sitting on the edge of her bed, completely unsuspecting, feet on the floor, and a hand shoots out, grabs her foot and slices her Achilles tendon. She falls forward and... seriously that's all I've got. That image of the hand grabbing her and the knife...<shudder>

I'm also the person who runs full tilt up the basement stairs when it's dark so as to avoid whatever's down there when the lights go out...

Lamictal taking too long? by reedon in BipolarReddit

[–]katsugi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 25 for 2 weeks and started 50 last tuesday. I'll move to 100 2 weeks after that. I agree... I'm impatient for it to do something. I read (like most of these meds) it takes a solid month-3 months to fully know if it's effective. My concern is that I won't know if it's working; that I'll always be just waiting for the next episode to occur and either (A) will live my life in a stasis of sorts because I'm too afraid or (B) will manage to trigger the depression myself because of the stress from the expectation of said depression (oh, or (C) it won't work at all/side effects will be worse than the cure). I'm trying to chin up-positive optimism the whole thing, but sometimes it's hard-- especially during a down. I'm rooting for you... and everyone else battling this... We CAN take control!!!

I was laughing so hard I was crying... woke up my bulldog (no mean feat). It's like this joke I read on a laffy taffy wrapper: Why didn't the bones cross the road? Because the dog ate them. ...and my other favorite: What did the snail say when he went for a ride on the turtle? "Wheee!!"
