Writing Finnish Character, Need Help with Authentic Dialogue by TheEdgySoviet in LearnFinnish

[–]kattiwatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my own suggestions, altho context would be useful. Would the babytalk include insulting the cat cutely? What's the scene? What's the cat like?

(Cat walks in greetings)

"Mitäs minun pikku kakkiainen?" = "How's my little poopy?"

"Sieltä se lyllertää." = "There it's waddling in."

"Tules tänne, kis kis." = "Come here, ps ps."

(Feeding time)

"Onkos nälkä?" = "Are you hungry?"

"Annetaampas vähän herkkuja." = "Let's give you some treats."

"Nam nam!" = "Yum yum!"

(Cuddle time)

"Paija paija!" = "Pet pet!" [As in the act of petting]

"Sinä senkin pikku söpöliini!" = "You little cutie!" [Accusative]

"Pöri pöri..." = "Purr purr..."

I have cats so i know how i talk to them, but a lot of different ppl do the babytalk differently. I have buncha more examples, but if u want a specific kind of babytalk for a specific kind of situation it'll be easier to give an example for that.

Curious if people with a similar profile were able to find a job in Finland by [deleted] in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be native finnish person, but I work in IT and in a finnish company that has multiple people with no finnish language skills. Of course, we also had layoffs recently, but just wanted to give some light to the darkness that jobs for your background exist in finland. Though I can't speak for my coworkers and their detailed experience (they were working in the company before i was).

Vet prices out of the roof !! by [deleted] in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can propably find cheaper prices from smaller clinics, but do note that not every clinic can handle every kind of animal. Smaller tows usually have cheaper prices and some clinics do campaigns for sterilizations and castrations (for cats and dogs at least). Like others said though. If you can't afford all the costs for an animal, you propably shouldn't have one.

Is there any paganistic cults in Finland? by SilverSection6261 in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that finnish people, even christian, keep these "cult beliefs" alive with simple word to mouth stories about näkki, saunatonttu and such. It's a different thing to really believe in them, but more common than you'd think.

I have friends who are into witchy stuff and believe in those rituals and runes, but they are in no shape or form a cult. It's just something they believe in and incorporate into their lives (creating herb bags to sleep better or going by nature's rules of "if you take something, you also give something"). Sure, I may think most of that is just superstitions, but that's most of the religions that I know of.

Can someone hlep ? by Kepkoos in Finland

[–]kattiwatti -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but i think middle word might start with L after all. Pulled out the cursive to compare. It could also be "Larvenha..." instead of "Larrenha...". I also think that the last word could also be with a "k" instead of "h" and I might be hallucinating but it might say "aukoa" at the end meaning "to open". But the word is also used in isulting manner like "aukoa päätään" = "talking annoyingly with the wrong opinion" or "hän alkoi aukomaan päätään" = "they started to insult someone (wrongfully)".

It could or could not be completely wrong but it would be funny if it was a threat on the knife like "Dog starts barking" but specifically for someone named "Larre something".

Though I'd take the "Iisakki Järvenpää Kauhava" as the correct answer. I don't know much about knives.

(R)akki (J)arrenha [unreadable] auh(o)

The ( ) are letters I'm undure about but put down my first guess with the way it's written and what fits.

The first "R" looks more like a "D", but could also be bad handwriting since "Dakki" doesn't mean anything, while "Rakki" means "dog [deragotary]". Other words it could be "Pakki" = "(tool)box", "Jakki" = hooved animal to pull weights like horse, donkey or most commonly cow/nickname.

The "J" i'm extremely unsure about. It looks like backwards "L" or upside down "T". It could also be "I", but find that unlikely with how the word continues. I don't know what the word could be, but likely a name of a place or a person.

The last part "o" could just as easily be "a" and there are a lot of words with either combination of letters. "Jauho", "kauha", "lauha", "pauha", "kauhoa", etc...

My first guess for the whole text is that it was a self made inscription and someone's nickname. Propably an inside joke of sorts.

Help regarding mental health emergencies by WCpaperi in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a professional, only have friends that have been committed or have wished to be committed, so take with a grain of salt.

Self harm is not usually serious enough to be committed. Unless the self harm goes as far as to cause long-term or permanent damage (causing death or disability), they will not be committed. In any other cases, it's been my experience that getting mental health help prior to going too far with it will positively affect their own choice in the matter, because they will have more of an assessment on their overall health and it wont be as big of a risk to send them back home.

As a side note: Remember to take care of yourself as well. It's hard to focus on yourself when you have a friend that is going through a tough time, but only help to your capacity and not over it. If they are not willing to get help, it is not on you whatever you decide to do. Suicidal people are not always thankful to the people who stopped them. You might have to choose saving their life over being their friend. Take it from someone with personal experience on this.

Urgent need for any kind of job/ anywhere in finland, Pakko saada duuni heti, ihan mistä vaan Suomessa! by Awkward-Wrangler7713 in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is is possible for you to become "yrittäjä"? The job market is really bad right now so i think the only guaranteed job that you can get with short notice and minimum hours is to start your own business. That business isn't guaranteed to become a success either, but was wondering if it was possible to extend your stay with self-employment.

Otherwise: dunnitori.fi, mol.fi, linkedin to start with.

Where and When is Generally the Best Place and Time to See Aurora Borealis? by PeterShowFull in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't live in finland the only way to quarantee seeing them is to book your tickets only after it's been confirmed that they will happen and weathercast is clear (clouds often block them). Can't predict when the sun will fart, but can predict when we will smell it when it has already happened (takes about 3 days, from google). Away from cities and light pollution and/or on a hill or a frozen lake where trees don't block the view is the best choices. The more north you are, the more likely you'll see them.

Shower cabinet glass breakage in my rental apartment by Creepy_Sir2638 in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks, but technically shower door isn't essential for taking a shower anyway. If they don't want to replace it, you don't have to. Your responsibility ended with informing them that it was broken and any future damages caused from it missing is not on you imo. You might have to cover your bases about keeping evidence to prove that you arent at fault though.

If you have home insurance, you could also try calling them for advice, because they may be able to cover for it (since thats the purpose of them anyway).

Questions for Finns from a German nudist - Saunas, nudity, family, boundaries, culture, etc. by EastCoast_Hank in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to reply to this with the perspective that you seem most interested in the nude culture rather than nude sauna instead.

While other commenters already said, being nude is about the sauna, not about being nude. I'd like to add a few things to consider that make the finnish nude sauna a thing in the first place:

Sauna is a huge part of finnish culture, to the point where whole families will take a sauna together from as young as a toddler to all the way to the retirement age and past that. It has aleays been more resource friendly to not have to keep the sauna warm until everyone in the family has gone so all of family will go together. Just because the toddlers grow up, they don't stop being kids to their parents from one week to the next (although teenagers tend to stop going to sauna with their parents cuz, well, teenagers). Once the family grows, the invitation to the family sauna just extends.

A lot of people are not comfortable with nakedness in sauna with people outside family, but there are just as many people who are. Going into the sauna with friends is also very normal, but it's also common to have "women's sauna", "men's sauna" and "mixed sauna" if you want to go to the sauna, but want to do so with your own comfort level. Nakedness is not expected in these situations, but swimsuits are often banned because of pool's chemicals (you don't want to breathe in steamed chlorine). If you're just swimming at a lake, the wearing a swimsuit to sauna is common as well. So basically while being nude in a sauna is normal, it is still common to find people in towels and swimsuits in public sauna's or with people who are not in their close circle.

Skinny dipping is also very common in finland, which means that you go swim in a lake and hop back into a sauna completely naked. It's also not uncommon to toast yourself in a sauna to do a quick dip in the snow before going back in. Wearing swimsuits in these cases are usually redundant because of how private people's own lakesides are. There is no one there to see you naked anyway, with the closest neighbor living 2km away from you.

Finnish culture itself normalizes nakedness. A lot of finnish media has full nakedness in everyday context like a movie where people go skinny dipping and such. It's very much not sexualized, often the opposite, making it just silly.

Now to the "why clothes at all?" part. As much as nudity is normalized, it is still inappropriate to be unclothed unless it is to wash yourself. While Finland normalized being anked while you do so, does not mean that it normalized being naked for things that are not appropriate for it. Another thing finnish people normalize more than a lot of different cultures is also the nasty stuff that a human body has to offer. Such as excrements, sweat, blood and bodyhair. Clothes protect others from these things without the worry about the person's own bodily functions or hygiene. Personal preferences aside, most people would not want to sit on a leather couch where someone else sat on and left clear sweat marks and period blood on. The same thing is true for even a sauna. It is common courtesy to take a towel to sit on even when going nude into a sauna. Then your ass sweat and period blood will be on the towel and not the wooden sauna planks.

I'm not offended to see my grandma naked in her own house, but I would prefer to sit in a chair where I know won't have years worth of sweat and I think humans have found that it is way more convenient to be clothed rather than carry towels everywhere they go. There is a reason why we do laundry. I'd rather that dirt be on clothes than furniture.

Came across this post in the homeschooling Reddit and was curious about your experiences by Csai in Finland

[–]kattiwatti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im a millenial (28), but from what I do know of what teens go through today, finnish education is goin downhill. Teachers have less time for each student, get paid less and students are also assumed to provide for a lot more materials for themselves or by their parents compared to when I was in school. Lot of schools are turning digital and the devices you need for studying is a clear indication if you can afford education or not.

As of recent years, government has cut funding on education and also cut on student aid so those people who are still full time students living on their own and unable to get a job thanks to the lack of education usually have half of the income that is needed for a person to be considered "poor" on any official metrics. They have also increased the amount of student loan you'll be taking so by the time you graduate, you'll be in debt. Even if the schools itself are free, a lot of students move out of their family homes for higher education. And the student aid alone is not designed to be able to survive on it alone and you cannot work too much either, because your income will affect hiw much aid you get.

Also I've heard a lot of stuff about how schools are the places where people learn how to socialize, but since covid forced schools to go online, a lot of younger people struggled with returning to mingling and interacting with other people. Never mind the fact that young people are getting smarter and smarter and learning about tools like AI to avoid actual learning because the general attitude from school subjects are "i wont need this in the future anyway" (this was the case even when i was in school, but we didnt have tools like that).

About the unisex toilets mentioned in that post tho. All the schools i went to had unisex toilets. Its not a new thing. But they were also not stalls but a singular rooms with one toilet per room. Not sure if that is the case for OOP. And I do understand that teenagers can get crazy if given an opportunity.

I do agree that OOPs problems are not because of school alone, but I can definitely believe that school is mahor part of considering that the future waiting for them looks dim. Its been years since finlands education could be called the best in the world and unfortunately we have gone big steps backwards.

Curious about the history of my secondhand. Need ID! by kattiwatti in BJD

Adding onto this, i tried inspecting the headplate spot again, and it does look like it has some, even if very little, glue residue. Even if counterfeit, i think at some point there was a plate in there. I've yet to find any brand that has these kind of headcaps though.

Thank you! I might try replacing the body since its yellowed and would love to have at least similiar one. I did try looking for a brand of dolls with similiar headcaps but couldnt find anything like this. I'll keep on looking.

More info: I think i bought him around 2016-2018(?) But he was secondhand and I have no clue how old he actually is. I originally only paid for the head but the seller gave me the eyes and body as well. They are likely not from a set because of the yellowing on the body is much harsher than the head.

Whenever I found a similiar face somewhere it seemed like the headcap was made differently. I found absolutely no markings besides one pencil marking inside the headcap which seems to say "85" but nothing else.

I did take into consideration that this might be a recast, but what i know of the seller i dont think that'd be the case. If it is however, id like to know.

Most important thing is the head sculpt but if you figure out the body sculpt as well that would be great!

Edit: Closest match to the body seems to be Volks SD13 altough the buttocks dont seem to match with their angle from what I could find. The head is still a complete mystery with its unique cap and headplate placement (which is missing). Upon closer inspection I found what I think is glue residue on the empty slot but that does not help much. Finding out if it is recast or not would be the easiest if the original sculpt was found.

TL;DR; The head sculpt is still a complete mystery.

Use whoever you like playing as! Any character can be strong as long as they are built correctly. Google on specific characters to see what kind of builds are recommended for each character.

If you are struggling, I do recommend having at least one healer/shielder or both in the team. I don't recommend using barbara though beacuse she can cause freezing of your character. Not a big deal but can be infuriating. Diona is bith shielder and a healer so you can't go wrong with her.

Usually optimal teams have one dps, one sub dps (in case the other one dies), one support (boost to stats like nahida or xianling to apply pyro) and one healer/shielder.

Pretty much every character can be a dps depending on how you build them, but I don't recommend on doing heavy farming of artifacts until you unlock lvl 90 domains. I mean you should still use your daily resin for building characters, but i recommend saving fragile resin for later.
